Here is a letter that was sent out by our Bishop-

At the request of the stake presidency, we wish to announce that there will be bishopric counselor changes in the ward this Sunday, March 15. We invite all members of the Rosecrest 2nd Ward to participate in the sustaining of the new counselors and to express gratitude and appreciation to two outstanding counselors who served so well. We hope to see you on Sunday.

Best regards,

Bishop Terry

Relief Society Birthday

From the Relief Society Blog--

So I hope you all have it on your calendars, Enrichment is next Tuesday March 3rd at 7pm. We definitely hope to see everyone there. Our Birthday party this year is all about the different purses that we carry throughout our lives, but even when we are all in different stages of life we all belong to the great organization that is Relief Society. Please bring your purses and come have a great dinner and lots of fun!!
A nursery will be provided so no excuses ladies!!!

Also, the Ten Virgins will be having performances this Friday and Saturday (27th and 28th) at the Stake Center. Get there early and sit up close, for optimal viewing/sound. This is a wonderful performance, so it will be worth your effort! I know the Friday performance is at 7 pm, and I think the Saturday performance is at 2 pm, but I have also read that it is at 7, so I am not 100% sure which is correct.

Thanks to those who attended the Ward Activity this past weekend. It was a lot of fun and also, a BIG thank you to the Young Women who came and provided the nursery. They are wonderful and we really appreciate them!

Happy New Year!

It is a little late, but Happy New Year!
The Bishop has made some Ward Family Goals for this year:
  1. Individually read the Doctrine and Covenants and The Pearl of Great Price. To accomplish this goal, you really don't need to read much more than a page a day.
  2. Attend the temple 12 times in 2009 (as a couple where possible) and track it.
  3. Every family to have at least a one-month supply of food storage per person.
  4. Get family finances in order: create a budget, track expenses weekly, and have at least a one-month's savings.
  5. Perform, as a family, a monthly act of service and/or share the gospel in a simple way with a friend or a neighbor. Also, Brother Hayden added to this-- Follow through on promptings.

Just a little reminder regarding taking care of our ward buildings. These are houses of the Lord and we should treat them better than we do our own homes. Here is a list of things that the members in the area need to remember--

  • After activities, turn out the lights, make sure windows are shut, and stack the chairs up (but be careful not to rest chairs on the curtains). *** Lock the building!*** There have been times the buildings in our stake have been left unlocked all night long.
  • Often times, the chapel is a mess after Sacrament Meeting. We need to clean up the snacks, papers, etc that we have around us on our way out.
  • We need to teach our children the importance of taking care of the building and treating it with care. Let's keep better track of them while we are there, especially during the week.
  • If there is something that maintenance needs to address, let a member of the Bishopric know, or maintenance, so that it can be taken care of.
  • Try to avoid large copy orders on Sundays. If it is more than 100+ pages, it is okay to go to a copy center and turn in the receipt. It will make it easier for the librarians to take care of the needs of everyone come Sunday morning.
  • Also, if you go to the church to use the copier and you don't really know how to use it, please feel free to call one of the librarians for assistance. That way, on Sunday morning, it won't take them an hour just to iron out any problems and fix it from the week's uses.
  • Please do not tape things to the windows. We are working on getting more easels, so that posters may be displayed that way.
In addition to those notes, gratitude was expressed for the hard work that we put into cleaning our building when it is our ward's turn.

OR if you have Trek clothing that you would like to donate, that is great as well.

The start of the Enrichment Activities will be on February 10th, with a cooking class at the Holmstead's. Check the RS blog for more information on that and others to follow. March 3rd will be the RS Birthday Party. There will be a gardening class, held in April. May 5th will be a food storage night.

Emergency Preparedness- There is a great poster available for $2. It has a list of many things that would be needed in an emergency and other information. To purchase, just pay $2 to Bishop on the tithing slip and then one will be ordered for you. These will be available through the end of February and Julie Stewart will deliver them. On March 14th, Herriman City will be holding a mock disaster. CERT training will begin on Feb 21st, all day that day and Feb 28 and a half day on March 7th. For details on any of this, contact Julie Stewart.

Ward Newsletter- If you have anything that you would like to be in the ward newsletter, please email it to [email protected], preferably by the third Sunday of the month. If there is not enough sent in, there will not be one printed. This does not have to be a fancy article, you can just send in announcements or whatever.

Activities Committee- The first activity of the year, The Hoe Down, will be held on February 20th, at the church (7 pm). We have a "Caller" coming to MC some square dancing for us. This is a really great opportunity to come and get to know your neighbors. Jump out of your comfort zone and come and have a great time! This activity is adults only. If you are willing to bring a snack or treat to share, sign up sheets are in the Relief Society Binders or contact Heather Genessy or Kerrie Swapp. Other activities will be announced at a later date, however we do know the dates of the ward camp out-- August 7th and 8th. It seems we need ways to be reminded of the things we have going on, and this seems to be the most current method of doing that, so here we go! This is an experiment, so feel free to email [email protected] with any suggestions or things you would like to have posted. Thanks!
  • Wednesday, October 8th, the Young Men and Young Women are having a combined activity-- a talent night. They are meeting at 7 pm in the cultural hall.
  • Sunday, October 12th we will be holding a ward fast for the Williams family. Please keep them in your prayers and participate in that, if possible.
  • The Primary will be putting on their Fall Program the 19th. There is a practice on Saturday the 18th, from 10-1 in the chapel.
  • The next ward activity will be our Fall Festival on October 25th. We will be having a Chili Cookoff as well as a Pie Contest. Sign up sheets will be going around starting next Sunday, so please, keep an eye out and sign up to wow us all with your chili or pie making skills. There will even be awards!
  • November 11th is the next Enrichment meeting titled "100 Dresses." More details will be posted as the event draws near.
