Updating my blog

It was so much fun to read some of my older blog posts and the funny things the girls say. They crack me up. I can't believe that Gabbi is 11 and Paige is 8 already. We are in Humboldt County now and it is a different culture here but we are really enjoying getting to know the area and the people.

Tomorrow is my 33rd birthday. I get excited about my birtdays and I am definitely not one of those forever 29 ladies. I feel like I earned every single year and I am proud of the person I am. 33 is a fun number, double 3's and of course if you flip the last three around and put them together it makes an 8 which is my all time favorite number. (These are the things that occupy my mind sometimes) Goodreads has asked me for my reading goal for the year 2015 and I put down 33 books. I have never made a reading goal before but I like the idea of the excuse to sit down and read a book just so I can make my quota for the month.

I am planning on writing here on a more regular basis. Sometimes it will be about my kiddos and sometimes it will be about my writing and at times it may be about what I most recently read. I am just going to write because I love to. I closed down my daycare of 5 years in june 2014 and our family moved from Newport Oregon to California. Now I am working on creating and working towards my dream of becoming a published author. I write everything from children's picture books to young adult fantasy. I am also attempting to learn the art of illustration. My dream is to one day write and illustrate my own story.

When I am not doing those things I am working on creating a business with my young girls called friend pins. If you haven't heard about it go and check it out www.facebook.com/friendpinswww.facebook.com/friendpins Gabbi my 11 year old created a website for their creation www.friendpins.weebly.com where we sell them as well. We are still working on building up our business and it is definitely a slower process than I would like but the girls and I are learning a lot about how all of this works.

Feel free to leave comments below, I love reading them.
 XOXO
Rachael

P.S. Below I am putting all of the quotable quotes I have recorded over the years so that I have them archived as I am changing up the side of the blog.

Paige: I need to get this cough out of me cause I feel fine

Gabbi: "I don't drink wine because it is against my religion" ( I love that it has nothing to do with the fact that she is 7)

Overheard: Lets write the Easter Bunny a thank you card

Gabbi: (said while sobbing loudly) IT'S NOT FAIR THAT LIFE'S NOT FAIR!!!!

Mom: You are having a lot of trouble obeying today. Paige: Well that is because Heavenly Father hasn't answered my prayers to help me have manners yet. (She prays for good manners every night. When I explained that obeying and manners are different she has since included obeying in her prayers each night. Along with the fervent prayer that one day her hair will be beautiful, long, and sparkly!)

Paige: I like everything about ballet except the dancing

Mom: How did you get so smart?
Paige: I just came that way

Gabbi: Mom, How come you never yell at daddy?
Mom: Because I love him
Gabbi: Oh. (Silence... )Why do you yell at me?

Paige: What is this? (about her lunch)
Mom: Broccoli and Cauliflower
Gabbi: That is broccoli, do you know what broccoli is Paige
Paige: no
Gabbi: Broccoli is a tree, and cauliflower is a tree with snow on it.

While changing a little boys diaper I was babysitting
Gabbi: What is that called again mom?
Mom: A penis Gabbi: A pemis? Pause, " I think I know why they call it a pemis mom, its because that is where they pee from and they always miss"

Mom: Paige will you tell me an article of Faith
Paige: The middle one, We believe that all men will be punished for never going to class and never ever ever ever ever going to church.

Valerie: I don't know how to play checkers
Gabbi: Then I will definitely win

Gabbi: The best part about eating is swallowing

Gabbi: Mom, I'll never run out of kisses cause I am just made that way

Gabbi: Mom can I talk to you privately? I just wanted you to know our car will be fine because I went into my room and prayed Twice!

Gabbi: dad will you make us ratatouille?
Paige: NO! Yellow tooey!!! (They have to argue)

 Paige: Where grandma Pam?
Mom: Utah
Paige: me tah?
Mom: no Utah
Paige: oh, Me tah.

Gabbi: Wouldn't it be great if we could talk to Heavenly Father on your cell phone instead of having to pray. I think he would hear me better.

The doctor asks Paige: What hurts?
Paige gave him a glare "Paigey hurts!"

Mom: Gabbi you have a new cousin named Starlene
Gabbi: but whats her real name?
Mom: Starlene
Gabbi: but whats her real name?
Mom: Starlene Therenity Stevens
Gabbi: !!Can we name her rainbow too!!!

 Gabbi: Volcanoes are scary.
Dad: yeah, volcanoes can be scary
Gabbi: No! Volcanoes are the scariest thing in the whole world even scarier than being eaten! (Said while crying)

Gabbi: Mom is breaking your bed
Paige: Mom break my bed?
Gabbi: Your lucky your not a bed Paige or mom would break you. (Note: I was not breaking the bed just taking it apart to put the new one up.)

Gabbi: Mom this easy bake oven is not at all easy!

Mom: Joseph B Worthlin passed away.
Dad: What! Gabbi: Oh no!!!! I was going to invite him to my birthday!

So Gabbi is learning German along with Russ in his German class. Her favorite word is Nein which means no. She finds ways to throw it into almost every conversation. The other day she says "I nein all about it."

Paige wakes up first, "Mom, I stinky!"
Then Gabbi wakes up "Good morning mom."
Paige, "No Gabbi NO! Gabbi go back to bed! Gabbi no touch!" (For those who don't know Paige only likes touch if she initiates it and Gabbi likes to touch all the time.)

Gabbi: "good that I am sick cause I get to drink sprite" (I have never met anyone so delighted to be sick)

Gabbi got sick and threw up in her sleep. I was rinsing her off in the shower and when she was clean I let her stay in. She says, "Paige doesn't even know I am in the bath and I get to shower all by myself good that I'm sick huh?"

While feeding Paige I make animal noises sometimes. But when I said Roar for lion she said: "No! Thats Grandpa."

Gabbi: Paige is so lucky to have me as her big sister

 After discussing talents
Gabbi: Mom, my talent is to ask why.

 Gabbi: Mom?
Rach: Yes
Gabbi Gabbi: Good that Jesus's mom lets him be with us always. Wasn't that nice of her?
Rach: Yes Gabbi

We had a fabulous Easter egg hunt at the Coast Guard station that Russ put together. The girls had such a great time. Our friend Chelsea in the above picture with Paige was her adopted mom for the day and helped her go around and find eggs. We had such a blast!

Paige's Emergency Kit

So I finally decided to put together our 72 hr emergency kits. I was quite proud of myself for stepping up and getting it done. All I had left was to put in a comfort item for my two sweet girls. I thought to myself, "Rach, why not involve them and let them pick one item to put in there. Then they can feel like a part of putting it together."

Well I hadn't thought about how I would have to explain to my 4 yr old what an emergency kit is. She immediately started to cry because "all her animals were special and she didn't want to leave any behind." I attempted to calm her down and explain but then my 7 yr old got upset as well and asked much harder questions. Within a matter of minutes I had lost complete control of the situation. My husband called my name to find out why our two daughters were sobbing loudly in the middle of the day for no apparent reason surrounded by very confused daycare children who also wanted to know the same thing. I immediately enlisted him for backup and when I stumbled upon the scene below had to take a picture.

This is Paige's idea of an emergency kit!

Doing dishes never looked so sweet!

Image
Image
I am amazed that my girls can do dishes. It seems so large of a task to me and yet there they are rinsing and loading and starting the dishes. It is becoming a much more regular occurrence and I must say I love it. Paige always goes the extra mile and after her sister went off to read her book tonight she got out the sponge and started to wipe down the table. What more could a mom ask for? :)

Grandma Orel is 94 years old. We have the privilege of visiting her each Sunday. At first it was so we could serve her as a family but over the last 6 months it has grown into so much more. I am amazed at the wonderful lady she is and the great attitude she has toward life. I feel like I have so much to learn from her. My girls both love her tons and Gabbi is quick to remind me that we musn't forget to visit her. She has so much to offer the world and I am grateful that she shares a little of it with our family each week. I would that the whole world would have their very own 94 year old Orel.

Windy day on the bayfront

With only those two Sea Lions hanging around it was definitely not our most exciting trip to the bayfront. The little boy with Gabbi and Paige is Austin, one of my daycare children. He is Vietnamese and is with us Monday through Saturday from 8:45 to 5:30 so he is just like one of the family. If you notice, my girls both have their jackets on backwards. It drives me nuts but they think it is fun. A trend that will not be sticking around very long ;)
