Last Friday, I surprised my hubby with a trip to New York City! I had us all packed and suitcases in the car and asked if he wanted to go to breakfast. I am a terrible secret keeper and I broke into a huge grin, of course, so I think he knew something was up. Also, I asked to drive, which never happens. He looked in the back of my car and saw we had suitcases back there but still had no idea where we were going. I drove us to the airport and got through security before he knew where we were headed. It was super fun for me and I'm so proud of myself for keeping that secret for MONTHS! I had gotten suggestions for what we should do and where we should eat from friends and family. The only duplicate place was
Eataly, so we headed there right after the hotel. It was a super cool Italian market with several restaurants to choose to eat, each with a theme. We of course chose pizza and pasta.
Adam's first visit to NYC has to include a street hotdog!
Brunch with Rosemary+boyfriend and friends on the upper west side at
Ditch Plains. Adam had a little birthday celebration here. Rose, I can't believe we didn't get a picture together! Terrible. We had such a good time with her and her friends at brunch and we went out dancing the night before. Surprising for me huh? We really squeezed a lot into our weekend! Dancing is totally Adam's thing and he loved it. Me too but more for the fellowship. :)
Friday night we saw the incomparable Phantom of the Opera. It was obviously wonderful.
Saturday night, we saw How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying with Nick Jonas. Very different from the night before, but we liked it too.
On Christy's suggestion, we ate at a Cuban place in Soho
Cafe Habana. It was an obvious choice because we were in the neighborhood and Adam loves Cuban food. Again super enjoyable. Adam and I are really good travel partners because we both like to do the same things. We like to be a little bit touristy, but more than that, we enjoy exploring neighborhoods. I bet we walked 8-10 miles Saturday. Our joke was that everything was about 2 miles. And that happened many many times. We walked Times Square/ Theater District to Chinatown, Little Italy, Soho, NYU, Greenwich Village, West Village, East Village, Central Park, Upper West and East Side, Union Square, and Rockefeller Center.
Loving Magnolia Bakery in Rockefeller Center. I told Adam the rule is if there is no line, you have to get it. He happily obliged.
Our hotel was really close to Bryant Park, so we watched the ice skaters for a while.
It was an amazing trip, and I'm so glad I have such a wonderful man who loves to travel with me!
