A Day at the Hogle Zoo

Image
July 15, 2014 I got to spend the day at Utah's Hogle Zoo with some of my favorite people.  I got to hang out with my youngest best friends, McKenna, Brynnlee, and Arly.  There mom, Cami and Brittany, sure are fantastic too!

Dominican Republic Part 4... Return to Santo Domingo

Image
June 30, 2014 we drove back to Santo Domingo.  We stopped to explore Haina a little bit.  This island is just so beautiful.  I absolutely love it!

This is one of the houses Travis lived in on his mission.  He told all sorts of stories about this area, for example, witnessing a gun fight.  Yikes!

July 1st we just spent the day roaming Santo Domingo.  We shopped at El Conde, walked to Wendy's for dinner (really adventurous) and then had delicious ice cream at Bon.

July 2nd we visited Rosemary again.  I just love her and it was so fun to watch her and Travis catch up.  We met her children Ronald, Rosemel, and Roselia.  We had fun playing with Ronald, he reminded us of Travis' nephews.  It took him awhile to warm up to us, but by the end of our visit he was teasing us.

After our visit with Rosemary we stopped by Anthony's house.  Travis taught Anthony while Anthony was still a teenager.  He was never baptized.  He was SO happy to see Travis.  Anthony got sick a few years ago and Travis was sad to see how poorly he was doing.  We were grateful Rosemary was able to tell us where Anthony lived so we could visit him.

We had to swing by the temple.  I love it there.

We got back to the hotel and Travis decided he wanted Pizza Hut for dinner.  I stayed at the hotel while he went for pizza.  He was gone for well over 90 minutes and I began to worry.  When he finally got back he told me he had been pulled over going down a one way street.  The police tried to take his identification and keep it until the next day.  They insisted Travis pay them.  He only had about 200 pesos left because it was our last day and they weren't satisfied with that.  They wanted him to take them back to his hotel and give them more money.  Thankfully he was able to convince them he had no more money and he was allowed to leave with his identification.  Scary!  That situation could have been so much worse.

There is no way to describe the way the Dominican people live. They are so kind and happy but have so little.  My visits to the island always remind me of how very blessed I am.

July 3, 2014 we flew home.  It was a wonderful 2 weeks and fun to come home having made a new friend in Rosemary.  I can't wait to go back again!
