Welcome to my main About Me page. I want to welcome you to my little slice of the Internet. I’m truly honored you stopped by. I am a content creator and photographer from Opelika, Alabama, I’m so glad you stopped by!
My Work
My work is in commercial services for website design and content management. If you need some help with your website or setting up a WordPress blog site you can see more at my Website Services page or contact me here.
My personal updates are on my blog, we have a travel site at Shanty Travelers and an Iris Garden website is at Deborah’s Iris Garden (DIG).
My Website
My main site here is based around photography content, but I have several categories with a lot of off the wall topics like my Bucket List. My photo albums are my main Photography Portfolios and cover a huge range of genres..
In my 30+ years of practicing the art of photography I have tried to narrow down my interests to specific genres or subjects, but that has always been an elusive goal for me. My photography focus is like this… explore, share, and help.
⚪️ Explore photography through photo essays of real life images
⚪️ Share my work publicly in as truthful a way as possible
⚪️ Help others where and when I can to the best of my ability
With my photos I try to concentrate on telling a story through a collection of images, and then I post these collections around the Internet. Learn more about how I got my start in photography here.
Website History
My site takes the concept of “CMS” or Content Management System seriously, and I’ve spent a lot of time organizing the content on my various websites. This site was started way back in circa 1995 on Concentric.net, moved to WordPress.org in 2002 and finally WordPress.com in 2018. You can search the history of over 1300 original blog posts and several hundred pages or even see my original site on the wayback machine.
To me, photography is the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event.
~ Henri Cartier-Bresson
Auburn Photobook
I’m also super proud of my first full photography book, Views of a Stadium, which can be purchased on my website here.
Thank you for supporting the work of a local independent artist (really, thank you!). You can also read more about my gear or my if you so desire.
About Me
I have lived all over the country, with most of my roots in Alabama, and I call the Auburn-Opelika area home. Over the years I’ve loved my time living in California, Texas, Florida, New Jersey, and various other places, but Auburn-Opelika will always be home to me. I’ve had the privilege of traveling all over the world from Australia to Uganda and everywhere in between. This has given me a unique perspective on different cultures and ways of life I could never have understood without having gone there in person, and it’s impacted my life and thinking tremendously.
What keeps me moving forward each day is faith, family, and my personal connection with photography and all the nuances contained in that art form.
Personal Statement
In this post-911-post-covid world things can feel quite overwhelming at times. I’ve tried to create my site as a counter to doom-scrolling, and I want it to be a place where positive community can happen. I recognize most people are doing the best they can, and we don’t all have to agree on everything all the time, and I’m ok with that. I respect everyone equally to the very best of my abilities no matter who they are or what they say. I hope you will afford me the same respect as I do you.
I look forward to connecting with you. If you have a blog or website I would love to take a look at it and spread the word, please leave a comment below with your website address so we can all check it out!

Now, is that a Boston Red Sox hat you are wearing in that photo at the top of this page? Seems we both may be members of another “nation.”
yeah, moment of weakness, didn’t want my head to get sunburned and my auburn hat wore out… i’m actually more of a Yankees fan anyway, so wearing a boston hat was bad bad lol
Appreciated your post on the importance of Leviticus. Some great points.
A little housekeeping though- check your usage of peaked on your “about me” page. Guessing you meant piqued. And I won’t be offended if you remove this comment upon reading- in fact, please do!
Dan, thanks so much! Really appreciate the feedback.
Hi Mr. Fillmer, I am a high school student and I have a speech that involves photos of snowflakes. I really loved your photo of the snowflakes on the window called Snowflake Photo on a Frosted Window and I was wondering if I could use it. It will be properly cited in MLA format. I hope you consider this. Thanks!
Cinya, you are more than welcome to use it as you indicated, thanks and good luck (sorry it took me so long to reply to your comment).
Wonderful post.
Thank you for sharing.
