Ever since Scott went to Goblin Valley last Thanksgiving with the kids he has wanted to get me there. We decided to squeeze it in this spring while we had no extra kids. Since we never know what our family will look like from day to day we just have to go when we can. The weather, in my opinion was great. It was in the high 70's, low 80's the whole time and I loved it. We left as early as we could on Friday hoping we would get there in time to get in the campground. We had to make several stops to keep the troops (Dreyden) happy. We didn't get there until 5ish and the campground was full. So we drove over to the other side of the mountain and camped next to these cool rock formations.
We even had our very own slot poop canyon. Yep, that's right, it was a small slot canyon that lots of people pooped in and didn't bother cleaning up. It was lovely.
Addason only smiled when the camera was pointed at her. Camping isn't her cup of tea. She said that it would be much better if she could shower, do her hair and makeup, have a flushing toilet and have no bugs flying around her and sleep in a real bed.
Dreyden and Landon were in heaven. Landon loved trying to climb up everything and throwing rocks. Dreyden love playing in the sand, smushing bugs, peeing in the lizard holes and throwing rocks.
We spent both nights in 'Valley of the Goblins'. It was pretty dang cool. The first night we just explored and played in the sand. The second night we played sardines and once it was dark we played with glow sticks. It was my favorite part of the whole trip.
Saturday morning we headed up to the slot canyons to take a hike. They found two big lizards running around and had to chase them for awhile. Tylee actually grabbed it's tail and then screamed. Scott was feeling brave and took it from Tylee to show Drey but it moved and so he dropped it. It was fun while it lasted.
Midway through the slots there was a nice big open spot with some bushes and Dreyden found a caterpillar. Instantly it was his new best friend. We let him run around and play with it for 15 minutes. He wasn't very happy to leave it but we convinced him that the caterpillar was hungry and needed to eat lunch. We set it on a bush and told him that on our way back through we could pick it back up. On the way back, he remembered exactly where it was suppose to be and it wasn't there. He had a meltdown the way no one can do but him. Then for the next 1/2 hour all he whined and cried about was his caterpillar.
I did like the slots for the most part. I didn't like when there were people coming the opposite directions and you had to try to squeeze through or one of you had to climb up the sides of the wall so the other people could go. I also was so worried about Dreyden banging his head while in the backpack. No big injuries occurred and we got out just fine so it was a success.
After the caterpillar incident Dreyden wouldn't get back in the backpack. Tylee, as usual was willing to carry him and help him climb up and down the rocks.
Tylee wasn't too thrilled I took her comfy spot on top of the rocks.
The spot we camped at was cool but lame at the same time. It was so windy there. There was sand blowing everywhere all afternoon and evening. A huge gust of wind blew a gallon of sand into our tent, into the sleeping bags, in all our bags and everywhere. All our food had sand in it. Also the gnats were horrid, I think at least 20 got blown into by mouth, along with the sand. Yuck!
He didn't really need to blow the bubbles, he just needed to hold the wand up and the wind did all the work.
He is obsessed with his father. If Scott was more than 5 feet away, this would happen.
All in all it was a pretty fun trip and I'm so glad we got to go.
