My Type of Chocolate Craving

frosty2

Addiction (from Webster’s Dictionary)

Main Entry:  (1) ad-dict // Pronunciation:  Ə-dikt // Function:  transitive verb // Etymology:  Latin addictus, past particple of addicere to favor, from ad- + dicere to say // Date:  1534

1: to devote or surrender (oneself) to something habitually or absessively <addicted to gambling>

2:  to cause addiction to a substance in (a person or animal)

Is this what it means when I can’t drive past a Wendy’s without picking up one of these (depicted to the left)?  I keep asking Aaron that if I crave these as bad as I do now, what’s going to happen when I’m pregnant??  He always comes back with an answer similar to, ‘They’ll probably make you puke!’  Oh, that would be terrible!

Wendy’s Small Chocolate Frosty (from my awesome iPhone Restaurant app)

Calories:  160 // Fat:  4g // Trans Fat: 0g

Addiction?  Craving?  Awesomely Delicious Yumminess?  Call it whatever you want!  As long as I keep making room for them in my daily calorie allotments, I’ll keep eating them!  And often, too.  And I won’t feel bad.  Not one bit!

A Monday Morning Boost

This morning, as it seems to happen every Monday, my bed was just screaming for me to stay in it!  It’s typically Monday when my pillow becomes the most comfortable it has felt all weekend and my comforter seems to form this perfect cocoon, enveloping my body in just the right way – making it very, very difficult to jump out of bed.  Oh, who am I kidding!  I don’t think I’ve ever ‘jumped’ out of bed (except, maybe, the morning of my wedding day) … ‘roll’ or ‘slide’ out of bed are more appropriate.  Regardless of how I get out of bed, it is always most difficult on Monday mornings for me.

But, no matter how difficult it is, I always do it.  A salary is a great incentive, let me tell ya! ;)

When I got to work this morning, one of the first things I did was open my iTunes application.  I knew if anything was going to give me a boost, music was a good place to start.  I decided to listen to Jessie Clark Funk’s album titled, ‘Everything Speaks His Name.’  Jessie is an LDS singer who has a beautiful and soothing voice.  For me, easy listening is the best way to help my head transition from wanting to be in bed to making sure I get stuff done!  The best part about turning her music on this morning was that it offered a wonderful spiritual boost – which is always welcomed – in addition to the metnal boost it gave me!

To extend this spiritual boost a little longer, I visited the church website (www.lds.org) to read, well, really, anything.  This ‘anything’ came from the left hand side of the home page under the ‘Faith in Christ’ section.  I clicked on “The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles” and thoroughly enjoyed reading, again, the words put together by the 15 Apostles of the Lord whose signatures fill the bottom of the page.

Just to share a few sections that stuck out to me this morning:

“… [W]e offer our testimony of the reality of His matchless life and the infinite virtue of His great atoning sacrifice. None other has had so profound an influence upon all who have lived and will yet live upon the earth.”

“He instituted the sacrament as a reminder of His great atoning sacrifice … He gave His life to atone for the sins of all mankind. His was a great vicarious gift in behalf of all who would ever live upon the earth.”

“Of Him the Prophet [Joseph] also declared: “And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives! (D&C 76: 22-24)”

“We testify that He will someday return to earth. “And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together” (Isaiah 40:5). He will rule as King of Kings and reign as Lord of Lords, and every knee shall bend and every tongue shall speak in worship before Him. Each of us will stand to be judged of Him according to our works and the desires of our hearts.”

“His way is the path that leads to happiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come.”

I have always enjoyed how simple the testimonies are of the Apostles.  It comforts me when I hear them bear testimony because they bring things down to a level I know I can manage – ‘His way is the path that leads to happiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come.’  That’s the level I’m talking about – to be happy and gain eternal life, follow Him.

I combine my testimony with theirs, which is simple – He lives.

Valentine’s Day = Chocolate Covered Strawberries

No flowers + No heart shaped chocolates + No special night on the town + No pink and red decorations = Valentine’s Day Scrooges!

That’s us!  We love each other just as much as we did yesterday – we’re just not willing to pay the extra $50 for anything pink, red or heart shaped because it happens to be February 14th!  (Maybe this mentality will change when we finally have money …. but, then again, probably not!)

I do, however, always welcome the incentive this day provides to have some delicious chocolate covered strawberries!

No, I’m not willing to pay $40 for somebody else to dip strawberries in chocolate for me, but I am definitely willing to pay the $10 to dip my own!  And if you ask me – mine always taste better!

Regardless of how we celebrate (or not celebrate), I hope you enjoyed your Valentine’s Day and every part of it that involved pink, red, hearts, and flowers!

Happy Valentine’s Day from our house to yours :D

Grapefruit Goodness …

grapefruit-cake1

Aaron and I got invited to our friends house for dinner tonight.

So … I offered to bring the dessert …

mmmmm….. Grapefruit Cake ….. mmmmm

Dangerous, I know, making something that I’ve never made before!

But, I took the risk and it paid off!

The cake was huge success – and most delicious!

You should make it and taste what I’m talking about! ;)

Just Call Me A NQSCCL!

canelabear

You know, I’m definitely the first to admit I’m crazy about/regarding a lot of things.  But, never in my short (almost) 28 years of life did I ever think I’d categorize myself as one of those Crazy-Cat-Ladies.  You know the ones I’m talking about – those ladies who would rather sit down and tell you stories about their kitties than their children (then again … children?  who needs children?  their cats are their children!).  Those same ladies also live in an efficiency apartment with 26 cats.  And don’t forget that awful look they give you if ever you have the nerve to say you aren’t really fond of cats … scary!

Ya, you know those ladies.

Me?  Crazy Cat Lady?  Oh, please.  I’m going to keep my 28 year streak going and not call myself one of those.  Let’s use the term NQSCCL (Not-Quite-So-Crazy-Cat-Lady) instead!  Big difference. ;)  I don’t have children yet, so it’s fair that I only tell stories about my kitties.  We live in a one-bedroom apartment and only have 2 cats – plenty of room.  My cats don’t annoy people – they’ll get sick of you long before you get sick of them.  And if you tell me you don’t like cats, I will totally sympathize since I was in your shoes one day.  But, I will warn you – my cats have been known to change a few hearts in their day.  In fact, they’ve turned every non-cat-lover heart they’ve met.  They’re up for any challenge! ;)

Anyway … let’s give some substance to this NQSCCL title …

Lately, Aaron and I have found it entertaining to take our two little friends on road trips.  The picture above is Canela’s first time in the car (we didn’t even go anywhere that day).  We’ve made a few trips with just one cat in the car, but the one left at home doesn’t appreciate that so much!  Now, if one goes, they both go!  The trips are never long – but always entertaining.  The first time we got Kala out for a road trip, Aaron had to wrap her up in a blanket and cover her face so she wouldn’t freak out so bad (she puts the ‘scaredy’ in ‘scaredy cat’)!  Once she got to the car, she mellowed out and started exploring.  As for Canela – she’s a champ now.  She figured this whole car thing out a long time ago.

Tonight – we took them to HEB (well, they stayed in the car with Aaron as I ran in to get the milk … for us, not them!  see – huge difference – crazy-cat-lady would have bought it for the cats!)

the-girlz

The little bit of reasoning we have behind doing this is that we want to get them comfortable with being in a car for whenever we move.  Above all the stress of moving, it would not be any fun having two freaked out kitties the entire drive to wherever we end up!

By their looks in the picture above … I think we got them pretty much broken in ;)
