Homecook Rendang Ayam
Meizhou
Imageserena_wai
Sunday nite, we organised a small gathering with RNC engineers & RBS engineers for Malaysia Homecook Rendang Chicken at my favourite restaurant. As mentioned earlier, i bought this rendang paste from Malaysia. Although it is not exactly how it is supposed to be cooked in Malaysia, but I am truly satisfied! Our typical Malaysia curry leaves and lemon grass 香茅 are not easy to find in Meizhou, therefore boss use another type of leaves to replace, maybe this is the reason why it doens't taste like a Malaysia local Rendang.

Homecook Curry Crabs
Meizhou
Imageserena_wai
My friends and I love to go to this small North-East Restaurant owned by Dong's friend, opened not long after I reached Meizhou. The reason I like to go there because the dishes are less salty and less oily compared to other Hakka restaurants. The oil that used in this shop is peanut oil, and not pig oil that normally used in typital restaurant in China. There are only 3 tables for four inside the restaurant. When it is full house, the boss will add two more foldable tables along the corridors in front of his shop.

When I came back to Meizhou after China National day, I brought some local food likes curry paste, rendang paste, bak kuk teh to let my local China friends try it. However, due to lack of confidence, I asked the boss if he could cook on behalf, he agreed with no hesitation. He suggested to cook curry crab instead of curry chicken because Meizhou's chicken is very skinny.
Four pieces of fresh crabs only cost RMB37 from the wet market. Togehter with veggies, mushroom, eggplant, beer, the bill totals RMB87 (RMB22 each). Four of us decided to have the boss cook us Rendang Chicken tomorrow, hehe, I can't wait!

The surrounding enviroment is very quiet but convenient to food, hospital, banks, sports, and etc. It is just 30mins away from Shenzhen downtown.

My learning experience in Winter
Meizhou
Imageserena_wai
Winter is damn nice.

Image

The bad things is, no matter how much I have spent on the winter necessity, I still feel cold!!!

AaaRGG...how frustrating!

My learning experience:

1. Don't buy expensive winter jacket that is not made from down feather. MY winter jacket costs HKD399, the sales girl said it was made by some japanese-made light-weight cutton. It was warm when I tested it inside the departmental store; but when I walked on the street, I felt like I am wearing nothing.

2. Do not believe your friend, if they come from the NORTH. The first night when it hits below 10 degree, three of us went to supermarket to shop for winter clothes eventhough it is dark & raining outside. Both my girlfriends are from the North, they didn't bring any winter clothes as they do not expect cold weather in GuangDong by November. I told them I wanted to buy 羊毛保暖衣, wool-typed long-john, they said it is totally unnecessary in South China. I ended up buying a pair of inner wear, which can wear to work or at home. It costs RMB199 per pair. Same thing, I do not feel any insulating effect at all.

Image

3. Buy long john! It worths!

In HongKong, many people buy long john from a brand named "CHICKS鸡仔唛". A upper shirt of inner wear 保暖衣 made of 100% cutton costs about HKD300; if made of wool, then it cost about HKD498. If I am buying inner wear of shirt and pants, that will cost about RM500!!! Phew~

When I came back to China, there are many varieties of inner wear range from as low as RMB30 to RMB300 per pcs. I bought once, and it was totally useless, thus the 2nd one, I bought a thicker one.

The material is made of 75% cutton, 10% wool, 10% fiber; inner coating is furry layer made of polyester. It costs RMB149.
I finally feel warm!

4. Buy gadget - elerecical warmer!

Image Image

Look at my blanket, it is so thick, yet it fail to keep me warm.I bought this electrical warmer from Carrefour at RMB13.80. I think I heard my ex-boss, Tv, mentioned about this gadget before but I didn't aware its existence until I saw it today. Just charge for 1 to 2 mins, then it will be able to keep your hand & feet warm for 1-2 hours.

5. Visit hair saloon. I washed my hair at home, and my hair is never dry. It made you feel even colder with your hair wets.
Last weekend, I went to visit my auntie and niece in Guangzhou, we went to visit a hair saloon. If you bring your own shampoo, it only cost RMB5 for washing, blowing & massage! SYOK!!!!

Trip to HuiZhou 惠州
Meizhou
Imageserena_wai
This weekend, yeeleng and I went to visit Huizhou. Our initial plan is to visit Hot Spring, which is written on the website, 12KM from the city. However, when we arrived at Huizhou, we found out that the city that mentioned in the website is not Huizhou capital city, it is refering to another city in Huizhou that is 2 to 3 hours away. We cancelled our hot spring plan due to unexpected distance. =(

We are still lucky, our Huizhou friends, Darren & SY, know another place named Xi Hu, 惠州西湖. This lake is existed in China history for over 1600 years. Famous poet Su DongPo 苏东坡, was previously demoted from his government job position and was sent to Huizhou.  His wealth including all assets, money & servants were all taken back from the government.  Despite the fact that he didn't excel in his career and his life, after he discovered this lake in Huizhou, he really enjoyed the scenery, and got inspirations on writing a lot of poem. Most of his famoust article, poems, lyrics, drawings were produced here.

Chinese loves to sing it and it was sang by many famous artist including 王菲 & 邓丽君

My place in DongGuan
Meizhou
Imageserena_wai
When I arrived in DongGuan, actually my August salary was not out, I didn't expect on this relocation, and I have spent a lot during my returns to Malaysia. I don't have a lot of budget for renting a place in dongguan, thus once on arrival, I stay on a cheap cheap room that costs RMB240 per month. It was really cheap but without any proper furniture, and proper bathing & toilet facility. I left the place after two nights.

My colleagues, Emma & SiaoYa recommend their apartment, YingFeng Garden Apartment 银丰花园公寓. It is about 15-20mins walking to office, fully furnished, safe environment and they are staying at this apartment also.

The price per room is RMB900 per month (tenancy contract at least 3 months), if to rent it for one month only, the landlord charged additional RMB100, and required 2 months deposits, so it is RMB3000 in total.

I saw the room on Thursday evening and moved in on Thursday night.
Image

This is their entrance, security guard on duty 24/7, the apartment building is covered by surveilliance camera. When I come back at night, it is always bright and safe. I am quite sicked with the voice-activated lights that normally used in buildings in China, people has to walk loudly else have to walking through the dark corridor.

Image Image

My wooden room door, not iron door like Meizhou, which make me felt like living in a prison. There is a tele-comm inside the room which got LCD display. I could see the visitor face at the entrance.

Image  Image

The room is fully furnished with cable TV, sofa, air-conditioned, fridge, kitchen, washing machine, heater. It's a dream place!

This is the most expensive place I have rented in China, but it is the BEST!

It is 15 minutes walking distance to Carrefour, 18 minutes to Walmart, and many restaurants, convenient store, bakery and banks just below the apartments.

Happy! Happy!
