Dr. Sihua Shao is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines, where he began his appointment in August 2024. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 2018, where he was awarded the Hashimoto Prize for the best doctoral dissertation. In 2023, Dr. Shao received the NSF CRII Award and the New Mexico EPSCoR Mentor Award and was elevated to IEEE Senior Member. He serves as an Associate Editor for the ACES Journal and has been a Technical Program Committee (TPC) member for IEEE ICC and IEEE ICNC since 2024, as well as for OPTICA SPPCOM from 2020 to 2022. Dr. Shao’s research focuses on wireless communication and networking, supported by the NSF, NIOSH, NM EPSCoR, and CO-WY Engine. His work spans diverse applications, including vertiport–drone–based methane sensing, smart stormwater filtration monitoring, biomimetic swarm sensing in harsh environments, intelligent mine rescue systems, integrated sensing and communication (ISAC)–based indoor robot navigation, and acoustic backscatter multiple access.
