A New Member of the Hidaway Farms Family

Hidaway Farms welcomed baby Miles on July 4th at 2:25 pm. He weighed 6lbs. 11oz. and was 20 inches long. His proud parents are Derrick and Lauren. Everyone loves him sooooo much!

Spectacular Showing at the NC State Fair and SAFF

 What an amazing show at the 2016 NC State Fair in Raleigh! It was a 26 hour whirlwind! White Diamond (Icelandic) won Reserve Champion White Long Wool Ewe.

 Amethyst (Icelandic) won Champion Natural Colored Long Wool Ewe.

 McLintock (Shetland) won Champion Natural Colored Fine Wool Ram and Supreme Champion Ram! First time ever here at the State Fair. He also won 1st place natural colored fine wool fleece.

 El Dorado (Icelandic) won Champion Natural Colored Long Wool Ram.

 Hondo (Icelandic) won Reserve Champion Natural Colored Long Wool Ram.

 Camille (Shetland) won Reserve Champion Natural Colored Fine Wool Ewe.

 We had such a great time and were thrilled with how the sheep showed!

 The 2016 Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair turned out to be another great show for Hidaway Farms. We had the 1st place natural colored Shetland ram lamb with Colorado who later became the Champion Shetland ram and he also won the Shetland fleece class. We had the 1st place natural colored Shetland ewe lamb with Josephine, Colorado's sister, who then won Champion Shetland ewe. We also had 1st place white aged ewe who won the white fleece class, 1st place yearling ewe, and 1st place aged ewe. Wow!

 Cora and Caroline won the Champion Shetland pairs.

Our Icelandics did super also. Diamond was 1st place yearling white long wool ewe, Maudie was 1st place natural colored long wool ewe lamb, Peridot was 1st place natural colored long wool yearling ewe, Emory was 1st place white aged ewe and Rosaline was 1st place natural colored age ewe. Rosaline was 1st place natural colored long wool fleece. Quincy and Rosaline were 1st place long wool pair of ewes and for the 2nd year in a row at SAFF, they were Supreme Champion Pairs.

We also had much success in the fleece show with our Icelandic fleeces off the sheep...1st place natural colored primitive fleece (Rio Bravo), 3rd place natural colored primitive fleece (Amethyst), and 1st place white primitive fleece (Jolene).

We were totally overwhelmed and blessed to have had such a great show season!! Truly the best ever in 21 years of showing!!

A Grand Fair - 2016 NC Mountain State Fair

 Hidaway Farms had a wonderful weekend at the fair...good friends and family...lots of sheep...lots of showing. For the first time in our showing career we received the Premier Exhibitor banner...what fun!

2016 Hidaway Farms Lambs

 Lambing is complete at Hidaway Farms for 2016. The pictures posted here are from the Hendersonville farm. We had 10 lambs born here...6 ewe lambs and 4 ram lambs. Katie's sheep had 12 lambs at the Leicester farm. She finished with 7 ram lambs and 5 ewe lambs. Now we are able to enjoy the antics of these marvelous creatures. Our names this year are based on John Wayne movie characters.

 First lambs born were a pair of Shetlands. Meet McLintock and Catherine (McLintock).

 First Icelandics born were twins, Mississippi and Maudi (El Dorado), white ram lamb and black spotted ewe lamb.

 Brooklyn delivered twin Shetland ewe lambs...Becky and Camille (McLintock).

 Next Icelandic to deliver was Rosaline. She delivered a large solid black ram lamb, El Dorado.

 Surprised on a Friday morning when we found Emmalee and her twins up and going. Josephine (El Dorado) and Colorado (Rio Bravo).

 Joey is a grey katmoget and Colorado is a moorit katmoget.

 Last baby to arrive was Shasta (Rio Lobo), a solid black Icelandic ewe lamb.
