Someone else's trash = my treasure

I have most of my ribbon shoved in a box and it is a pain to search through. So, when I saw this little beauty at a garage sale I knew I could do something with it! And it only cost me 85 cents!!

I spray painted it black and here she is!!

We rearranged the entire  craft room. It just seemed out of synch. I love it now!
I love how these organizing shelves hang in symmetry next to my bulletin board (which needs to be recovered soon now that we got rid of the desk that used this fabric. Needs a yellow or red maybe??)

Here is the full room view. Hubby moved his computer off to the side so I have my crafting space. When he goes to use it in the evenings he'll just move it to the desk. It opened up the space so much!

And the OCD me came out...finally got out my label machine and labeled all my bins.
It's amazing how organized I feel now!

Its almost garage sale season! I LOVE fall garage sales. I was out running errands Saturday morning and found two garage sales that had items I have been searching for. The first was this little baby and I had big plans for her to be my craft club trash can!

Image

I wanted something I could put in the middle of the table for scraps while we are working. And while the paint was hideous at first glance, I knew she had good "bones" and would work perfectly!

After three coats of Krylon Hammered black paint and a little TLC with Stampin Up
and ModgPodge...perfect!

Two sides say "Trash" while two just have flowers.

Its amazing what a little paint can do!

Cajun Canvas

Image

We have a place near us called Canjun Canvas where you can take a painting class for a night. Each month they post a calendar with numerous painting options. You choose the day that has the picture you like best and then they tech you how to paint that picture. A bunch of my friends bought a groupon making it 50% off and decided to go. Long story short I was just going to watch {and drink wine} however we had someone cancel and the groupon expired so they had me use it. And I admit...I had a blast!

I'm a crafter...not a painter/artist. My brother got those artistic talents in the family. But they teach you step by step what to do and you are allowed to customize. For example I liked the painting overall but wanted the colors to go better with our decorating scheme in our house. So I changed the colors a bit. The birds are also freehand so they were all different from painting to painting. I have to admit, I love how mine turned out and cant wait to hang it!

Craft Room

My craft room is actually a multi-purpose room. Part office/part play room...it gets busy in here!

What I love about it? I can craft in the midst of my sweet girls playing.

What I dislike? I can't just shut a door and tune out for "me time". I have slowly added decorations and gotten the room to about 85% of where I want it.

Here is a tour!
*Please excuse these pictures...the lighting is horrible in the house!

 Whole room view

Left side...my craft stuff are in the tall book cases and the kids toys are in the small ones.

The middle picture is important dates in our family... Jared & my birthdays, our anniversary and the girls birthdays. At the bottom it says "first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes Jayne & Savannah in the baby carriage. I can't take credit for the idea, my SIL Sarah found it on Pinterest!

My stamp pad holders my FIL made me. It holds 33 stamp pads, the middle box holds my markers and the left one holds another 33 stamp pads or can convert to hold numerous paper punches.

Right side of room...babies and dress up!

My bakers twine storage. I bought these awesome tops off Pick Your Plum. The tops can be used for straws, but I use it to stick the twine from. Keeps it from getting all tangled up!

Spice Rack Re-make

I had been searching for an old fashioned spice rack for months. I got the idea of using the rack for all my crafting embellishments (rhinestones, brads, beads, etc) from my Stamping Up Demonstrator, Angie. But no matter how many garage sale or antique stores, I couldn't find one. I was getting really frustrated. Well, I finally found a rack {minus the bottles} at a local antique store I've been stalking. Thankfully I asked the lady at the counter and she had the bottles at home. I was ecstatic!

The rack was dark wood and the bottles had very old, peeling labels on them.
But I saw the potential!

Soaking off the labels for THREE DAYS!!!

And spraying with black spray paint...

I finally got the look I wanted!

Laundry Room Re-do

When we first moved into our house I never thought about making our laundry room {cutsie}. I mean its just a laundry room. And then I got on Pinterest. And I saw all the adorable, awesome laundry rooms and mine was lacking. So little by little I picked up things. A chocolate brown rug here and cute washboard there. Until I could finally see some sort of design coming together in my head.

Picked up this washboard at a garage sale for $2. It was a honey wood color and said "Laundry & Soap 5 Cents". But I despised the color so I spray painted it white.
Image

Then the color of the actual washboard looked horrible after I painted it white. So I used my Polka Dot Parade blue/white paper from Stampin Up to cover it up. Along with chocolate brown ribbon along the edges. I used my Big Shot and Tattered Florals die to cut out the flowers for an extra element of design.

 {Perfect little holder for all the odds and end that I find in the wash}

Here is a "before picture of the room.

And here are some "after" shots

A friend of mine is making me a vinyl decal for this that says "Laundry 10 cents" in chocolate brown

Found these perfect brown canvas laundry bins at Target. They were exactly what I wanted to hold/hide stuff.  One has beach towels, one has blankets and the other miscellaneous.
Image

I spray painted clothes pins white and added some paper and embellishments to match the "theme" of the room. And to identify whats in each bin.

I have this vinyl wall decal {but i white} coming soon from Etsy...

Its not much, but I love having some decorating elements in the room now!
