I'm painfully aware that I'm totally behind on just about everything in life, including blogging. I've got closets to clean out, new school clothes to put away (yes, they are still in their shopping bags from Salt Lake! We pull a new one out every day and iron it,) last year's (and maybe the year before!) school stuff in stacks in the office that need to be organized and stored, a day's worth of unwashed dishes on the counter (and no dishwasher to put them in. Well, you could put them in it, but it wouldn't wash them!) Well, the list could go on for pages. I think I'm still tired from May. My month in Salt Lake was amazing and totally needed, and definitely needs about 17 blog posts to cover alone. But, I just can't make myself be productive right now.
The kids started school 2 days ago. If I ever finish off the "now I need this for school" list, I might get to the other things. Anyway, all this to say, that I was going through Grace's old backpack last night trying to find her calculator so she could check THAT off the list for science today, and I found this totally amazing little piece of writing. I love that girl. It rips my guts out to see her little blond self get on that middle school bus in the morning with 17 giant children. But, she seems to be having a blast and rocking 6th grade so far, so I really have nothing to worry about. She's awesome. And, she wrote this, sometime last year:
Earth
by Grace Elizabeth Chapman
A big blue marble
Floating in the universe
Just a speck of dust
Floating through 4-D
Time is just a little thing
Though it can destroy
I know, right? This wasn't even an assignment for school. It was just something she wrote (in super nice handwriting, might I add) on a little piece of lined orange paper for herself. Really, I cannot wait to see what she delivers to this blue-marble-speck-of-dust world someday. It's going to be huge. It already is.
