Finally...A Baby Emmitt Update

Remember this little guy?
ImageWell now he's turned in to this "little" guy. :)

ImageSince I haven't done a post on Emmitt since he was born here's one of just him and his cuteness, and his tricks, and such. Lots, and lots of pictures.

ImageThis is our little Emmitt @ 6 days old. He had pretty bad jaundice so we had to put him under lights 24 hours for about 4 days.
ImageIt was really sad the first night he had to be under the lights he wouldn't/couldn't sleep. He was used to being all wrapped up tight and snuggled but under the lights he could only be in his diaper and a sweet eye mask. So if baby doesn't sleep then mommy doesn't sleep. It was a horrible night to say the least. By the next night he adjusted and we got a few hours of sleep. Here's to being a new mom.
Image
Emmitt 9 days old

ImageI love the wrinkly skin! Why do I love it so much?

ImageOne of my all time favorite pictures! 10 days old.

Image
Image
Christian LOVES his brother! He always wants to hold him and play with him. He came up to me the other day and gave me a big hug and said, "Thanks for giving us baby Emmitt, Mom."

Image
Make me cry!

Image

ImageOh, my how I LOVE those chubby checks! Oh, and those lips!
Image
2 Months old.

Image
Jocelyn loves to play "Mommy" with Emmitt. I found her reading him stories and giving him toys to keep him company. :)

Image
Loving chopping on his fist these days, oh and anything else he can get his hands on.

Image
He has the SADDEST cry of all time!

Image
Hmmm, how does that taste?

Image
Image
Just workin' out.

Image
Sweet, sweet boy!

Image
Learning to sit up!

Image
Almost ready to roll from tummy to back! He's also getting good at grabbing toys and sticking them straight into his mouth. He is always lifting his head and trying to check out the world especially in his car seat. What a BIG boy! In one week he'll be 5 months!

Well there you have just a few of the highlights of his life thus far. We LOVE him to pieces and really can't get enough of him. I thought that the kids would have to go through some adjusting periods once we brought him home, but they have been awesome and have kinda just acted like he's been here their whole lives. How lucky Emmitt is to have such a great Brother and Sister to look after him. And how LUCKY, and BLESSED we are for having this sweet, loving, smiling, baby boy!

Kid Quotes:

#1
Jocelyn: "Emmitt took my spot."
Heather: "He took your spot where?"
Jocelyn: "Emmitt took my spot in yo belly." pause... "and I took Christian's spot! Fun-ny"

#2
Christian: "Mom I want you to have 100 kids."
Heather: "You must not want to have a Mom then."
Christian: " Yes, I do. You could just have them one at a time, about every year or so."
Heather: "Why do you want me to have so many kids?"
Christian: "So I can be their big brother, and play with them, and take care of them like Emmitt."

and after we explained to him what a reasonable # of kids would be we got this out of him a couple days later.

#3
Christian:
"Mom your going to have six kids."
Heather: "You'll be lucky to get 1 or 2 more from me."
Christian: "No your going to have 6. I prayed for it."

#4
Christian: "I still can't believe we have baby Emmitt. I love watching him do all of his baby things."

W.O.W.

Has it really been that long? That is disturbingly sad. In the last 2 months SO, SO, SO, much has happened. Here are just a few of things that have been keeping the Shu's busy:

-Emmit is growing like a weed-4 months old!
-I spent way too much time at the Chiropractor with Jaw and neck problems.
-I had labrynthitis (ya, I know, who gets that?) for two weeks. Miserable! Got tons of help though and feel SO LOVED. So many people brought in dinners, cleaned my house, and took my kids. You know who you are, I know who you are, and I'm sure points in Heaven were given because you all got HUGE brownie points in my book! Love you!
-Celebrated 8 years of marriage...both sick in bed, I don't think we even kissed, but we did get Thai food. :) Thanks Jen and Mike!
-Christian started KINDERGARTEN!
-Blessed our sweet baby boy.
-Went to California/Disneyland.
-Had an awesome Halloween! Celebrated A LOT. Christian asked if Halloween is 7 days long. Sure felt like it this year.

ImageCheck out those checks that Emmitt has put on. I could kiss them all day long and most the time I do. :) More to come on him. He deserves a post all of his own. Lot's of great pictures, and some priceless kids quotes to come. :)

ImageI told them to "smile" this is what I got. Emmitt is the only one with a decent smile on his face. He is such a smiley little baby. I LOVE IT!

ImageChristian is growing up on us! He started Kindergarten and even rides the bus. Saying he LOVES it is a HUGE understatement. He can't what to get out the door in the morning to ride the bus with all his friends.

ImageWhile I was in the midst of having Labrynthitis we blessed Emmitt. Jed did amazing with the blessing and all I have to say is my kids are DANG LUCKY to have him as a Dad...he's awesome!
ImageChristian's Bad Hair Day hair. Sweet face! Oh, how I love him!
ImageJocelyn was my little entertainer while I was sick. She would draw me pictures (both kids would actually) and do her own hair and sing, and dance for me. Here is just one of the many hair dos she sported. She's got quite a talent.

ImageNow that I'm healed...Lets PARTY! For our Christmas this year on the Shu side we went to California and had a BLAST! Disneyland of course was a must. We had SO much fun. Here are some of the highlights...

ImagePrincesses...oh so many princesses. 7 in all. Jocelyn was in heaven! She couldn't take her eyes off of them. Her other big highlight was the "DOLLY" ride aka: "It's A Small World"
ImageJocie with her cousins posing with Cinderella. They were all so cute.
ImageChristian with his Cousin, who he thinks is the coolest kid around...maybe because he is! He loved riding the rides with him and being able to spend the whole week hanging out with is super cool older cousin. Christian was able to go on all the big rides this year. He loved splash mountain, Space mountain, Indian Jones, and Toy Story Mania the most.
ImageHe also loved meeting the Characters even though, "I know they're not real Mom." Was whispered to me numerous times. He didn't want Jocelyn to hear and ruin it for her so he'd 'whisper' it to me. I thought that was cute that he was looking out for his sister.
Tigger was one of his favorites because he was so hyper. He bounced around with him and danced with him and was, well, Tigger, a ball full of energy and fun. Just like you Christian. :)
ImageThis is how we left the park most days. With all 3 kids exhausted and asleep.

Image
The Beach was another highlight. In fact Christian said," I liked Disneyland and the beach about the same but maybe the beach 10% more.":)

Image
ImagePosing with cousins at Sunset.
ImageThey loved running from the waves, and digging for treasure and finding shells and getting completely drenched.
Image
ImageJed and Christian taking a rest from boogie boarding.
ImageJed even tried a little surfing. Fun was had!

We had a BLAST in California and a HUGE thanks goes out to Mamma, and Papa Shu for the great trip. We love you guys SO much and LOVED spending the week with you and the rest of the family. We are so incredibly blessed to have such cool, great, people to call our FAMILY!

ImageOur little Halloweeners as Mario, Snow White, and a Box of Cereal.

Christian quote:

I was taking pictures of him in his costume and after wards I showed it to him and this is what he says...chuckling a little, "I love me."

We love you too buddy! :)

The Birth Story...One Labor of Love.

June 28th 10:00am- go in for a check-up. Dilated to a 3. Membranes were stripped.
June 28th- Lay around all day feeling back labor, not a biggie
June 28th 9:30-pm off to bed
June 28th11:30pm- wake-up with contractions. Just painful enough to keep Heather from getting sleep.
June 29th 12:00am-3:30am- contractions continue a lot of back labor, but very sparactic. Watch a few labor preparing videos. Send the husband to bed. Knowing this might be his only chance for some shut eye.
June 29th 3:30-6:00am- contractions become regular at 5 min.s apart. Call Momma Shu. She comes and contractions slow down. Get in the car drive to Spanish Fork only to turn around and come back home because contractions have completely stopped. :(
June 29th 7:30-9:30am- take a nap only to be awaken by 3 intense contractions followed by a gush of blood. Heather panics. Jed calls Dr. T. Dr. T recommends going in to hospital. Heather cries. Jed excersies his priesthood to bless Heather with peace. It works. Heather loves Jed!
June 29th 10:00am- Check in to hospital. Doula arrives. Dilatation: Still a 3. We wait.
June 29th 10:01am-2:00- Contractions continue at 5 min.s apart not too painful. Hung out in the jacuzzi tub, on the yoga ball, and snuck in a few bites of food. Dilation checked: Still a 3.
June 29th 2:00-3:00- Nurse recommends breaking water, Dr. t is called. Heather buys herself some time until water is broken. Let's just try a few more things first.
June 29th 3:30-5:00- Jed and Heather walk the halls. Acupuncture is tried among other things. Nothing works. Say a pray. Decision is made. Dr. T. will arrive in 1 1/2 hours to break water.
June 29th 5:00-5:30- Heather listens to her hypnobirthing music and rests.
June29th 5:30-6:30- Contractions begin again, harder and only 2 min.s apart. Doula helps relax Heather and back to the jacuzzi tub. Hypnobirthing techniques are put into play. Painful but doable.
June 29th 6:30-7:05pm- Dr. T arrives. Dialiotion: 6, 100% effaced, water is bulging and is broke. Contractions become intense. From one to the next it doubles in pain. Heather gets through them only because Jed and Summer (her amazing Doula) are by her side, squeezing hips, reminding her to relax, and letting her hold (more like squeeze to death) their hands. What a sweet support they are to her. Heather loves Jed.
June 29th 7:06-7:12- Dilation: 10. Heather and Jed are having a baby! Dr. T arrives. Nurse tells Heather that she needs to push, the baby's heart rate is dropping. One push baby's head is out. One more push and he is born. Baby is placed on Heather's chest and all is well. His angels from above kiss him good-bye, while his mommy and daddy welcomes him to life with kisses and tears.

So I did it! 100% all natural! No stitches, no I.V., no nothing! I had my doubts if I would be able to do it, but I knew I really wanted to. My Doula, Summer Zemp, was what got me through it. She gave me the confidence I needed to do it. Jed was absolutely amazing and having him by my side gave me such strength, but I know it was hard for him to see me in pain. So Summer was there to give him strength just as much as she was there for me. Thank you Summer for sacrificing your day to share in our little miracle. You were my saving grace!

She's done it again!

ImageAshley captured another precious little moment in life. 3 little cousins all born within 2 weeks of each other. :)
Emmitt- June 29th, James- July 6th, and Cohen July 12th.
It was so much fun to be pregnant with cousins. We took our hypnobirthing classes together and were each others cheerleaders and support group the whole way through. Love ya Ape, and Ang! I have to say we all make stinkin' cute babies. :)

This picture makes me cry. It captures the pure, sweet, innocent baby that Emmitt is. Thank you so much Ash for capturing this for me. I will FOREVER treasure it.
