Camping in Colorado

One of the best things about moving to Colorado is the fact that we can do more camping and hiking than we did in Virginia.  The heat and humidity (and snakes and bugs!) kept us from wanting to do more camping than we did.  We took the kids back to school shopping at the outlets in Castle Rock before school started and one of the stores there was a Coleman outlet store.  We bought a tent that can fit our whole family comfortably.  In early September Alex had a soccer game down in Salida (about 2 hours SW of us), so we planned to make a weekend out of it and go camping!  It was a beautiful weekend!!!  We had so much fun, and the kids did great.  Abigail and Andrew both went right to sleep when it was bedtime which was my biggest concern...especially since Andrew had never really slept out of a crib.  We had good camping food (tin foil dinners, Scott's yummy dutch oven dessert and mountain man breakfast), enjoyed the scenery immensely, hiked around the little lake we camped next to, did some crafts.  The only hiccup we encountered was the fact that we arrived to the campsite later than we hoped the first night and it was dark.  SO dark.  We had to leave the headlights of the van on so Alex and Scott could see to get the tent set up.  The next morning...dead battery!  Luckily we found someone to jump it for us early enough so we could make it to Alex's game on time :) .  There weren't many other campers out that weekend so it was nice and peaceful out there.
