Prom 2011

Here is what they did:
Day Date: Have picnic in the canyon (Canyon Glen) (they left just as soon as it started to rain) they then went to Provo Beach Resort and did ropes course and played the arcade. Dropped off their dates and planned to pick them up again around 5:30. Kyle drove an escalade and picked up Christian and then his date Caroline and then to Jessica's house (Christian's date). We drove to Jessica's (while they were getting Caroline) to get ready to take pictures.
Dinner: Pizza Factory (they were willing to take reservations for a group of 10...Brick Oven was not)
Dance: Provo Library
While they were at dinner and the dance we had our own little party with the Atkinson's eating paella from an authentic Spaniard complete with shrimp, muscles, and chicken. It was delicious! Then we all went to the promenade and went back home and watched a movie (while the ladies fell asleep)

Love this photot!!! It was so fun. We were driving right next to them and stopped at the same light. Asked them roll down their window for this great photo op and they both did a pose.

I wish we could have gotten the other view of his face seeing her for the first time but that is burned into my memory. It was the sweetest expression. He looked like he had seen an angel!

Her dress was "modest-ified" with the added sleeves. Mom sewed some tuelle sleeves. The sleeves matched the inside skirt. It was a beauuuutiful dress.

Gotta have the shoes!

THE NEXT DAY AT CHURCH (well after church)

Chandler and Christian, long time friends since they were 6. We didn't get to see Chandler at promenade but since they both wore their tuxes to church we were able to snap a couple pictures.

If anyone else gives me pictures from their camera I'll add them to the blog. I really wanted pictures from their day dates but I don't ever get those...One day I'll sneak up...

"I think it's so cool when..."

Christian used a "star" theme to ask Jessica to prom. Starburst candy were thrown all over her floor. We purchased star balloons, star signs and wrote star sayings on them. Then on specific stars he wrote "will" "you" "go" "to" "p" "r" "o" "m" "with" "me"all on different stars. The whole room was so festive and fun. It made me wish that I had been asked that way too. But we just didn't do that when I was growing up (or was it cause I was in Germany...?)

We had a team of helpers trying to put up all the decorations in a short period of time. Teagan, Alex (Jessica's brother), Ana (Jessica's mom), me and Christian. Jessica went to work that day (she works for her dad at the same company Jens works) and was expecting to get off around 5. Jens knew that he would have to work late and I asked him to ask her for a ride home giving us more time to decorate. She patiently waited for him to finish work.

She would never guess it was Christian who was asking her so we had to give her a little help. He put glow in the dark stars above her bed to spell out his name...so when the anguish of trying to figure it out consumed her to tiredness, she would calapse from exhaustion on her bed (and turn out the lights)...she would see who her suitor was.

We were all anxiously awaiting Jessica to go up to her room to find the decorated delishiousness. Towards the end of the night Jessica's mom said "J, would you go up to your room and get the ACT book and return it to Christian". So she did and we all ran up behind her to catch her reaction.

Here is Jessica's answer back to Christian:

Of course I didn't know where this happened (and apparently he didn't know either, but don't tell Jessica that...) we have a little forest behind our house which he searched for a little bit but couldn't find anything there, so he decided to go in the front of the house and voile'!

Jessica told Jensen where the next clue would be. Jens wasn't home at the time so we had to wait for him to return and for him to take us to the spot. We drove all over Provo to get to the spot.

The whole week before this Jessica would tell Christian (trying to hint) several times as they were driving past this bridge..."I love it when I see messages on the bridge" or "I read those messages every time, don't you?" or "Isn't it sooo cool when people leave messages on the bridge"

It IS sooo cool, J.

And the winner is....

Jens got his call tonight! He is going to: Iowa, Des Moines mission!

The winner is: Melissa Holden and Sister Lowe They both guessed Missouri which is part of his mission. He'll leave for the MTC on July 20.
