I Get Crafty

I just finished some great projects for Ruthie's room. I am pretty impressed because I am not normally a craft person. What motivated this change? I followed a basic 7 step process.

How to decorate a baby room:
Step 1: See really cute do-it-yourself decoration idea in a magazine while waiting at the doctors office.
Step 2: Go home and try to remember the cute idea or magazine name to look up details of the project.
Step 3: Fail at step 2. (Failure can be complete or partial)
Step 4: Look for the magazine at the next doctors appointment. Vandalize the magazine by ripping out the pages.
Step 5: Experience guilt for ripping out the pages.
Step 6: Dispel guilt by telling yourself that a) the magazine is like six months old and b) you did it for the BABY!
Step 6: Recreate the cute idea at home.
Step 7: Celebrate your amazing craftiness.

What were my projects?
First, I made a floating flower mobile. The flowers are just pink and yellow faux Hydrangea blossoms.

The second project was an asymmetrical frame wall. These are all old frames that I had on hand. They have just been repainted to coordinate. They will have some updating once Ruthie is born (after all the shadow box is empty except for a random picture of wedding people and the top frame will need a picture of young Great-Grandma Ruth Mahoney), but I think they look good so far. The frame with three flowers is my favorite.

I made a practice birth print out just to see what it looked like. I have to put in the real info once Ruthie comes.

This one is hard to see at a distance, but it is a little airplane.

Lastly I made a crib skirt. That is right; I MADE it. I found an online demo for a no sew crib skirt. It was so easy. My friend and I both went out shopping for material and decided that this simple rainbow stripe would work the best.

I feel pretty much like a craft queen right now. At one point our living room looked as if a craft store had exploded in it, but it is all cleaned up now. I have one more project that I will be working on. So I will keep you posted when I finish it.
