Peas, Peaches, and Rice

Apparently a winning combination.

Bird Crisis

It was a beautiful day, so when Ruthie and I came home from a walk we opened the door to the balcony to let in the fresh air. There we are folding laundry and playing with toys when a bird flies into the living room. It does a frantic turn around and quickly exits. But wait, what's that I hear? Chirping coming from the kitchen. His little bird friend came in as well and got lost. This bird was trying to get out the window, which was closed. PANIC - There is a bird in the house. Christian is at work - What do I do?!

Image1. Snatch up Ruthie and quickly take her upstairs and out of the way of a wild and possibly ferocious-decease-carrying bird.
2. Come back downstairs to asses the situation.
3. Move Matdy to the bathroom because she is in the kitchen meowing at the bird and freaking it out.
4. Move into the kitchen and try to shoo the bird out towards the back door.
5. Abandon step 4 because that bird might fly at me.
6. Go back upstairs to get Ruthie who is crying at being left all alone.
7. Construct an anti-bird tent for Ruthie to play under while I try to solve the bird situation. (Place Ruthie in tent)
8. Open back door really wide and hope the bird notices the breeze.
9. Go back to the living room, sit with Ruthie, watch Marry Poppins and hope the bird thing sorts itself out.
10. Triumphantly check out the kitchen after hearing what sounds like a bird happily chirping as it finds its way out side.
11. Take Ruthie out of protective tent.
12. Scrub down the entire kitchen to protect against icky bird germs.

Success! Crisis Averted! Baby Saved!

EA

Image
For those who don't know, Chirsitian found out last week that he received his Air Force ROTC Enrollment Allocation (EA). Right now the Air Force has more ROTC hopefuls than it needs or can absorb into active service, so in the spring of a cadet's sophomore year they decided whether or not to grant you an EA. Getting one means you can stay in ROTC and commission upon graduation. Not getting an EA would mean leaving ROTC and finding a new life plan. The Air Force weighs your GPA, commander's ranking, physical fitness score, and Officer Qualifying Test score to make its determination. I am so proud of Christian who worked very hard in all these areas, and most especially for his hard work last semester to bring his GPA to a more competitive range. He carried 26 credits last semester!

We would also like to thank everyone who kept us in their prayers as we were waiting to hear about the EA. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.

California Trip

We decided to pack up and head for California for Spring Break. This would be our first road trip with Ruth. We weren't sure how she would do on a long trip so we opted for the travel by night method. W left our house at about 11:30 on Friday night with a snoozing baby and arrived in Bakersfield at about 6:30 am (5:30 their time) with a baby just beginning to stir. It was perfect. I fed her and then handed her off to my parents for some special Grandma and Grandpa time while Christrian and I crashed out. Once we recovered from our drive we were in for a week of family, friends and relaxation as we bounced back and forth from Bakersfield and Tehachapi.

While we were in Tehachapi Ruthie discovered a new sound. She will sit on your lap and happily go for five minutes without stopping. Unfortunately Ruthie has a habit of going silent when you try to record her. Christian managed to get this small clip at dinner while we all carried on as if nothing was happening.

Our Cat

Matdy is a strange cat. She has recently fallen in love with this box from Costco. Don't get me wrong, I know she is a cat so any box is a win with her, but this is different. She drools when she rubs her face on the edges. Yes, she drools on it.

Does she drool on anything else? Christian's Backpack. She loves that backpack.
