Week 15

Happy 15th week birthday!!! Nothing new to report, which is a good thing. We've got another routine appointment a week from tomorrow, but no ultrasound scheduled for this visit. Summer is starting to get some mild back-pain, still sleeping a lot and still hungry most of the time. We're going to get her the big sleeping pillow, which will take some of the pressure off of her back. I have been working a lot lately, but that should change soon. Blockbuster (my client) will file their financial statements on thursday, so life will slow back down after that.

Here is what's going on with Summer and the baby this week:

I think it's about that time...

I've discovered myself pulling at my shirt alot lately. And by the end of the day, my favorite thing to do is to come home, take off my pants and put on some sweats and a tshirt. I think it's almost time to move into maternity clothes, but I'm just scared of that first time. I don't know why, I think it's because that means my wardrobe will have officially shrunk to be the size of the 4 or 5 maternity items I have at this point. Or maybe it's because it cements the fact that this is happening for real, something I tend to forget more often than not since it's still pretty early on. Don't get me wrong, I'm incredibly excited about all the changes that are going on, but there are still times you lose your breath thinking, "Oh. My. God. What have we done?" And my tightening clothes are a reinforcement that we're about to embark on something new and unknown. So bring on the stretchy-waisted pants. And let's go get another Whopper. :-)

Week 14

Well, we've got 13 weeks in the books and several more to go. We got the results back from our NT test Summer mentioned in a previous post and everything looked great! They have a couple more rounds of blood tests to run, but they did not see any increased risks based on the initial tests!

Here's a link to what's going on with Summer this week:

We have another appointment the first week of March, but no ultrasound, so it looks like our appointment the first week of April will be when we find out the sex.

Little Jumping Bean

We went in for the NT screening yesterday and all went well. The doctor was really nice and explained everything they were doing - basically taking some measurements of the baby via sonogram and combining those results with blood tests to predict the likelihood of Down Syndrome and a couple other chromosomal problems. The sonogram was really neat - Scott and I sat in chairs facing a wall with a big flat screen plasma TV that we watched our little guy (or girl) on. It was like a movie, and much better than the OB's office where we both have to crane our necks around to see the little computer that the tech is working on there. The Dr. said that our baby is about 3 inches head to rump, which is right on track for where I am (13 weeks and 1 day at the time). The funniest part of the whole process though was watching the little bean jump around in there. For some reason I thought they just hung out, didn't really move around much, especially at this stage. But apparently I was wrong because our little guy would kind of scrunch his legs down and then bounce up and across the screen like he was on a trampoline. I first thought it was a result of me laughing (imagine that, I was laughing...shocking I know), but the Dr. said that it's perfectly normal and he's just taking advantage of all the space he has now because it won't be that way for long! We got to see fingers, toes and the spine, and we also learned his heart rate was 150 bpm, which according to an old wive's tale means it's a boy - YES! :-) It was a really neat appointment and we got to watch him for a good 5 minutes. After the Dr. left and we were waiting on the lady to come take my blood, I told Scott to break out the little roller thing and try to find him again, but he declined. Didn't want to break the "rules." So now we have to wait another 7 long weeks before we get to see him again. :-(

Note that for the ease of writing I am referring to the baby as a "he," but by no means do we know what it is. In fact, the Dr. showed us how he had his little legs crossed so even if we wanted him to take a guess, our little guy is too modest for that!

12 Week Appointment

We went in yesterday afternoon for our 12 week checkup. Dr. Ruk ran into the room and said, "Let's listen to the heartbeat and then I've got to go deliver a baby!" So that's what we did. It took a little while to find it and I don't think I breathed the whole time he was rolling around on my tummy, but when he did it was so neat. Really fast "swoosh swoosh swoosh swoosh." And then he ran to deliver a baby and met us back in his office about 30 min later. All in a day's work I guess.

We also went over insurance and I had some blood drawn for the usual tests. Luckily no fainting on either of our parts. :-) We've really lucked out with my insurance as the usual 20 minute meeting was reduced to the insurance coordinator telling us "Covered 100%, any questions?" One less thing to stress about which is good. With that in mind and after talking to some girls up here at work who had another sonogram done at 13 weeks for something called a Nuchal translucency screening (NTS), I called Dr. Ruk today and scheduled an appointment to have that done. So we go in on Monday to, as Scott says, "See the schmidge on TV!!" I can't wait!
