First trip to the Fair!

On Saturday we took Kaitlin on her first trip to the State Fair. It had been a few years since Scott and I had last been to the Fair and it certainly was a different experience with a kiddo. Luckily, we got there early and it really didn't get crowded until we were getting ready to leave. Kaitlin had a blast seeing all of the sights and especially loved getting to see all kinds of new animals. She really wanted to take a ride on one of the rides on the Midway, but settled for viewing the bright lights and sounds from her stroller. Here are a few pics:

KRK checking out the turkey's. These guys were ok, but she REALLY loves the wild ones out at Nanny and Papa's cabin in New Mexico.

I was so proud of her for not being afraid of the bigger animals, as evidenced below:

We even had to watch out for the crazy ostrich who wanted to eat her fingers!

Here she is checking out a baby-goat...these guys were much more to her liking!

She REALLY liked the Shetland ponies!

She even found time to pose with her dad for a picture outside the field entrance to the Cotton Bowl. Maybe her Aggies will win a game or two on that field when she is in school!

I'd say it was a success...

Like Father Like Daughter

I had a girls weekend in San Antonio this past weekend, celebrating a couple friends' 30th birthdays. While I was down there, my parents were up here waiting for their power to come back on in Houston. Thankfully they were here, because they documented this sight:

Sweet girl!

Kaitlin has started a new thing at night. After I put her in her crib she rolls over and looks up at me and waves and says "bye bye" in a soft voice. It is perhaps the cutest thing I have ever seen in my entire life! Such a sweet girl!

One Year Pictures

While I was in NY for Sonia's wedding 2 weeks ago, Scott, Cindi and Amanda took Kaitlin for her one year pictures with a new photographer at the Dallas Arboretum. She posted a "sneak peek" of some of the 600 that she took (see link below). I'll admit, I was nervous since I wasn't there, but I think they turned out great! I can't wait to see them all!

If you scroll down, the "6 month sneak peek" right below K is Jamie's son John. Such a cutie, even in his ugly OU outfit. ;-)

Welcome Benjamin Austin Brown!

Christine and Britt had their baby, Benjamin Austin Brown (Ben), Saturday night 9/13 at 5:57pm. He weighed in at 8lbs 7oz, was 20.5in long and has a quite a bit of brown hair. We went and visited the happy family today and they are doing well. Christine pointed out that she had Ben after 1) eating Eggplant Parmesan the night before and 2) making lunch plans with us for Saturday, and I had Kaitlin after eating Eggplant Parmesan and making dinner plans with them! So Sarah & Jim, when it's time for Kate to come you'll just have to make some plans to come eat with us (and eat Eggplant)! We are excited for the Browns and can't wait to get to know Ben over the coming years. Congratulations guys!

It's hard to be a baby...

Today after playgroup we came home and had some lunch. As we've noted before, Kaitlin has significantly different tastes than her mom. She didn't like her chocolate birthday cake, but she DOES like beans and avocados (whose kid is this anyway?) This is how lunch went down today. We've all been here before.

Labor Day Weekend

We posted a bunch of pics on Shutterfly from the weekend (link). I guess they technically start with last Thursday, which was Kaitlin's first day of "school" (Mother's Day Out). The program is every Thursday from 8:45 until 2, but since she still takes a fairly early nap I think I'll be picking her up around noonish most Thursdays, which will still give me some time to get some work done. Per instructions from Cindi, I was ordered to take a pic of her first day of school, and since I was alone it was kind of difficult to get her to cooperate. This is the best I could get, and I actually think it turned out kind of artistically good, with both our shadows there and her holding my keys, the door slowly opening towards my baby walking away from me. Yada, yada.Image

On Friday we left for Houston to spend some time with Nana and Pop, and to attend a couple birthday parties. We also went down to Discovery Green, a new park in downtown Houston. There are a ton of pics on Shutterfly from Kaitlin's foray into the water fountains there, she had a blast. She even met a boy with her exact same birthday but a year older. His parents were kind enough to let us borrow a Little Swimmer diaper, since we weren't planning on her going in the water we didn't bring one and the poor girl was waddling around with a 10lb diaper for most of her morning. She was a bit embarrassed to say the least.

When we got back to Dallas we went and purchased Kaitlin yet another birthday present. (I wonder how long pre and post birthday you can call still call them birthday presents?) We got her a Little Tikes car, which she absolutely ADORES. We took it for a couple spins around the block and the house today. I had Scott put it in the guest bedroom when she finally broke herself away from it to have a snack of "sauce" (applesauce), and then a few hours later when I was putting away the laundry she wandered away and I found her in there, in the car again! She had crawled inside herself and was just sitting there talking to herself. She loves that thing!

We also got her a Little Princess decorated table and 2 chairs. She doesn't really show very much interest in that now, but I'm sure in a couple months she will enjoy playing with it.
She ended the long weekend with a relaxing bath with her dad before he leaves for Orlando tomorrow. She even got to break in her new hippo towel, courtesy of Nannie and Pawpaw. (Notice she is on her duck phone in this picture. It was a very important call).
