Happy Mother's Day!

First, Happy Mother's Day to all the moms, especially our mom's Barbara and Cindi! Thank you for giving us such a great example of how to be a great mom. And Happy Mother's Day to all the prego moms - I am so excited about how many pregnant people there are, some who have been revealed and others who have not (so not mentioning any names here).

Second, let me just tell you a little bit about how my Mother's Day started out. Last night we went out to eat at Mi Cocina. Kaitlin wasn't really in the mood to eat, so she just munched on some chips and queso but wouldn't really touch anything else. I figured that was fine because when she had woken up from her nap around 4:30 she had about 50 grapes (not an exaggeration, she likes her grapes) and some goldfish, and then a little of her leftover PB&J from lunch.

We headed back to the house to take a bath and get ready for bed, and she was unusually clingy and cranky. I just thought it was because we had Ginger with us and she was a little wary that we were going to leave her and go out. I read her her stories and normally we turn off the light and talk about her favorite parts of the day before prayers and bed. At this point she started crying and wasn't to be consoled. I rocked her, sang, did everything in my bag of tricks and she just kept crying. Eventually I just had to put her down and leave the room and she calmed down and went to sleep. About an hour later she was up again crying, so Dad took his turn but that was a no-go, she only wanted Mom. I held her and rocked her and she fell back asleep, but everytime I would put her down she would start crying again. I could tell she didn't feel right, but couldn't pinpoint it, I thought maybe her ear was bothering her because she had mentioned it earlier in the evening.

Let me just say at this point that I really had no idea what to do. I've never blogged about this because I didn't want to jinx it, but Kaitlin has NEVER been sick. I mean, literally never. We are so lucky and thankful, I think it's because God knows I probably couldn't handle it. She's had the occasional cold and runny nose, but never a temp above 100, never an ear infection, never puked (other than after her first Rotavirus vaccine). I'm knocking on wood as I'm writing this.

So needless to say, I'm pretty clueless about what to do. I decide to give us a change of scenery and headed into our bedroom to watch a video and try and get her to calm down. I noticed she was crying and not really producing tears so I got a bit worried and made her a cup of juice/water. She drank the whole thing while we watched Barney and generally seemed to snap out of it. This was around 11pm at this point, WAY past bedtime. I took her back into her room to redo the bedtime routine of a few stories, songs and then bed. We read our stories and then when I went to turn off the light she told me "No, light on" and then proceeded to puke ALL over me. I'm talking a tube of grapes, juice and queso all over my lap and the chair. And it just kept coming. Like 6 times I'd say. It was the saddest thing I've ever seen, she had no idea what was going on, she just had wide eyes and kept looking up at me like "WHAT IS HAPPENING?!?" I finally got my act together and got her trash can for her to finish up in. She didn't start crying until it was all over with. When she was finally done I took her back and gave her another bath, during which she kept telling me "Mess all over the floor!" Poor Scott got to clean her room up while I cleaned her and myself. I could tell immediately that she felt a thousand times better, so I think it was probably just something she ate that she had to get out of her system. I'm so glad this happened in her room, where we are getting new carpet on Wednesday, and not in our bed! What a start to my Mother's Day!

"Too Much Fun!!"

This afternoon after her nap K and I were playing in the backyard. Since it's already 5,000 degrees and not even June, preggo Momma decided to stick her feet in the pool to cool off a bit. I daresay that was a HUGE mistake. She's always had a pretty healthy sense of respect for the pool, staying pretty far from the edges and really only reaching in when she's trying to get the coveted duck. I guess I threw all that out the window with my little trick today, as she climbed right up next to me and stuck her toes in. At first she was a bit tentative, looking at me and saying "Piggies in the pool momma?" I said "Yes, I've got my piggies in the pool, I'm hot." She then proceeded to thrust both feet into the water and start splashing madly. Let me just tell you, she thought it was HILARIOUS. We sat out there for about 30 minutes and ended up with her soaking wet and looking like a drowned rat. (Our home computer is still packed up, so that's why there aren't any pics and prob won't be for a while). During this escapade, she insisted on Mommy splashing her feet too, and whenever I would do it she would yell "TOO MUCH FUN!!" I have no idea where she learned that, it kind of sounds like a Nannie thing to say so that's probably where. And then she told me several times "I happy Momma!" and even did the sign for it too to drive home her point. So while I am fearful that I started something that won't be easily stopped (she had no less than 3 tantrums tonight trying to get us to go back out there), I think it was worth it for those 30 minutes and her telling me how happy she was. It was a great afternoon.

Random post

Dr. Ruk just called and said the bloodwork was normal for the diabetes test, but I am anemic. He was going to prescribe iron pills but I succesfully talked him out of that with the promise to eat more red meat. Yes, just the excuse I needed - Burger King here I come!!!

Also, I forgot how realistic dreams are when you are pregnant. Last night I SWEAR I had a baby boy running around the house already, about 6 months old. Maybe I'm not so sure it's a girl after all?
