Soccer Season #1

We signed Kaitlin up for the YMCA soccer league and have had our first 3 practices and one game last Saturday. She is a proud Coppell Jaguar sporting a No. 7 yellow jersey! Here are some pics:

Who doesn't need a good bow for soccer practice?

Not gonna lie, the first game there was a lot of this:

ImageWe hadn't really prepared her for the fact that there is only one ball in the game. She loves and does great at practice, mostly because they all have their own balls so they are always busy and can do their own thing. The game was a different story. After the first minute when she was out there and couldn't immediately gain control of the ball she kind of shut down. Some might say she is like one of her parents - can't do it perfectly? THEN I WON'T DO IT AT ALL!! The best part of the day was when she came crying out to the sideline and was sitting on my lap and goes very quietly "Mommy, I don't want to go out there and play soccer, I just want to stand on the sidelines and be a cheerleader." At that moment I actually heard Scott's heart break just a little. ;-)

But her coach is excellent and did a really good job of encouraging her and getting her back out. She played the final two minutes and got to throw the ball in, do the kickoff thingie (not a soccer player here so don't know the lingo) and she scored a goal! She skinned her knee at one point during the game but went back out and played, and for that she got the one and only "blood patch" that I ironed on her jersey for next weeks game. She was so proud and hasn't stopped talking about it since!

Let's hope this weeks game starts off as smoothly as last week's ended.
