Happy 4th Birthday Kaitlin!

Four years ago today I fell in love with a little girl, and never could have dreamed how much that love could grow over these short years. We are so blessed to have a kooky, outspoken, brave, beautiful, caring, cheerful girl in our family. We had a great day celebrating your birthday with all your favorites. We woke you up to enjoy a brief rain storm - you have been asking for it to rain for months now and you were tickled pink to see it happen on your birthday! We filled your room with balloons and presents, so we went and opened those before quickly getting ready for your second day of preschool. We all went to a birthday breakfast of your absolute favorite - donuts and kolaches. You love maple donuts just like me, but had to settle for chocolate with sprinkles today b/c they were all out of maple.

You had a fun day at school, being birthday princess all day, with cupcakes for all your little friends at snack time. Then it was home to play with Mommy while Claire actually took her nap for once. Then we went and tried out a new ballet/tap class to see if you were interested (you were, you loved it!), and then back home to pick up Daddy to head to a surprise dinner at Chuck E. Cheese! You were thrilled and ran around and played all the games you could (ski-ball and air hockey were the faves) and got to dine on your favorite meal - pizza! We introduced you to fried mozzarella tonight, you wolfed it down! Great day of healthy eating over here!

Here are some stats on you and things you enjoy at four years old:

You are starting to be a bit more adventuresome in your eating. As noted above, you do have your favorites which are mostly junk food (pizza, donuts, ice cream), but you still love to eat black beans like it's going out of style. That's usually my go-to meal for you - a black bean taco spiked with some butternut squash for some veggie power. You think it's cheese sauce. :-) You have finally caved and will eat baby carrots and a few other "healthy" things (peas, green beans) b/c I've made it a game where I act like I can see your muscles growing after you take a bite. Anything to ham it up for you.

You officially gave up your nap in the past month or so. You will take one maybe once or twice a week, but when you do you end up staying up til 10pm so it's usually better if we can push through. You sleep 8pm-7/8am. I think you would sleep later if your sissy didn't wake up so early and make so much noise!

Your favorite activities are by far dancing and swimming. I really think you would just do those two things all day if you could. You are an excellent swimmer, easily swimming across the pool, diving to get dive sticks, you even jumped off the big diving board at the community pool and swam across that whole pool by yourself. You are also a great dancer. You have some moves that make me wonder what you've been watching - you seem much older than your years. We have taken gymnastics all summer and you love that as well, often doing handstands, back-bends, somersaults and cartwheels mid-dance routine.

You are by far the tallest newly 4yo I've ever met. I hope you always embrace your height - you are beautiful! We will have official stats after your appointment with Dr. Pam in 2 weeks. You're due up for FOUR shots - not looking forward to this!

You are SUCH a good big sister! You love to show Claire how to do things - all of your gymnastics moves, riding your scooter and bike, basically anything you do she wants to do and you are so gracious and patient with her. I love to hear you talk to her, you are so encouraging and are always looking out for her if you are in a group. That's not to say you guys don't have your fair share of fights - but I think that's mostly due to the 2yo temperment and all her "no's" more so than you. I'm sure you will outgrow the nit-picking and be the best of friends! I'm so glad that you guys have each other. I can't wait to see how you are with your newest sister coming in January. It has been so much fun to be pregnant and have you be a little older, since you understand and often talk to the baby and always kiss and hug my belly and tell her "Be good in there little baby!"

You often surprise me with how mature you are for your age. You are often mistaken for a 5 or even 6 year old. Sometimes that makes me sad because I feel like I pushed you to grow up too fast. Mistakes we make along the way I suppose.

We are so lucky to have you in our lives, and Claire and B3 are so blessed to have you as their fearless big sister! We love you baby girl!

Your second favorite, enjoying breakfast on the patio while it rains. You've asked for it to rain every day this summer. Don't mind Claire, it's how she hangs.

Claire's 2nd Birthday Party

We had a low-key swim party with family and friends on Saturday July 23 to celebrate Claire's 2nd birthday. She had a good time and did not disappoint when it came time for the singing - Christine and I wondered if she would cry when sung to (like both Ben and Kaitlin) and while she didn't break into tears, she did panic and climb up me like a cat. I'm still not sure if it was the candle or the singing or combination of both that freaked her out so much. We sang it to her many more times that day and then again on her actual birthday and she was fine, I think it's just the realization of everyone looking at you that freaks the 2yo's out. Here are some pics from the party:
