Annapolis in the Spring

Image
Jack and Jacque in front of the monument Tucesmeh. This Native American monument is in front of Bancroft Hall at the Naval Academy. Tucemseh is the midshipmen's God of 2.0. By throwing a penny in his quiver, you will pass that final you will need to pass. Becky and Jacque enjoyed trying to throw random pennies found on the ground. Needless to say, they weren't successful, but enjoyed it non the less.

Jacqueline and Rebecca enjoyed window shopping around Annapolis and seeing the State House. The Annapolis State House is the oldest state house in the country still used in operation. We were also lucky to see the Easter Egg Hunt that was being held on the governer's lawn. Unfortunately, the girls were a bit too old to be looking for eggs so we just watched.

Image Getting up on a beautiful sunny Sunday morning, we decided to play tourist in Annapolis with the girls. Since I teach Maryland history, I knew that Rebecca would totally enjoy taking a field trip with her family. Luckily, she was in a good mood as was Jacque for such an adventure. We had a great time walking around the capital and the United States Naval Academy. I enjoyed sharing my knowledge with the girls about the history of the Naval Academy and tidbits about Annapolis.

Pink Invitational Meet - February 2009

Image Rebecca and her Level 6 team from Docksiders had the chance to go up and compete at the Pink Invitational in Pennsylvania in late February. This was a special gymnastics meet where the proceeds went to cancer research. Rebecca did well in the meet and placed on floor. She and her team enjoyed their new 'pink' leotard which was part of the goodie bag for each gymnast. Rebecca and Jacque enjoyed spending the night at a local hotel where they got to swim in the pool and stay up late with Rebecca's gym team. This was Becky's first 'overnight' meet where the girls got to hang out.
Yes, it is now April and I am just now getting pictures posted. Where did the time go? It is hard to believe that Easter is just around the corner. Time to get the baskets out and find some eggs!

Happy Valentine's Day

Snow Day!

Image
Yea! A Snow Day for all! Actually it is more of an Ice Day since there is about an inch of ice on the snow. Needless to say, the kids didn't mind one bit. In fact, they actually enjoyed finding icicles and sliding down the driveway. Today was set up for a teacher inservice day, but because of the poor conditions, teachers had the day off as well. That means that tomorrow the kids get another day off so that us teachers can spend the day at school alone! :) Winter has finally hit Maryland!

Becky's First Violin Concert

This has been Becky's first year in playing the violin. She begged to play last year as a third grader, but I felt that it might be too much. Well this year, she pleaded to play and so she did. Boy, is she good! We were truly entertained by her violin playing and are looking forward to seeing her grow musically. Image

Terrapin Time

Image

Introducing Speedy and Bubbles! As part of my Chesapeake Connections class that I took this summer, my fourth graders were selected to help raise two diamondback terrapins. During the school year, my kids are able to watch, feed and measure these two amazing animals. During the long holiday breaks (Thanksgiving and Christmas), I was able to bring the terrapins home to look after. Our kids really enjoy having them here and the cats were equally happy to see them. At the moment, these two terrapins are roughly 20 grams a piece and about the size of a sticky note. Watching thImageem grow and play in the water is a lot of fun!
