Dannie and Sylvia’s Next Adventure

Warning — this is a long post.

Well, it’s time to make it Internet official.

Dannie and I are moving to Oregon, the Salem area.

Dannie finally retired after working in the construction field for over 50 years. We decided that we want to be participating Grandparents, so we are off to Oregon and spoil Sunny Lee! 🩵

I never thought I would live in Texas, but 20 years later, it was one of my better decisions to move here. Lots has happened while I’ve been in Texas. Some great things, some hard things, but they all have lead me to where I am at now.

My mom and brother, Joe, passed away here. Along with relatives and friends.

I meet the most wonderful man, Dannie. Never thought I would meet the love of my life ever. God must of wanted me to wait for a good one like Dannie. Love you.

I had three major health procedures and thank God they all turned out for the good.

Some of the places I’ve been to in Texas:
San Antonio
Dallas
Houston – worse traffic only 2nd to Atlanta traffic
Austin
Amarillo – Cadillac Ranch and road on a motorcycle on Route 66
Corpus Christi
Port Aransas (My Happy Place) – USS Lexington
Fredericksburg
And lots of town we saw during our roadtrips.

Things I’ve seen and done while in Texas:
Went on two cruises, left from Galveston
The Riverwalk
Southfork
Went to two NASCAR races in Ft. Worth
WNBA basketball games
Concerts – Paul McCartney, George Strait, Willie Nelson, Elton John, Tom Jones, Diana Ross, Chicago, The Mavericks, Duran Duran, Barry Manilow, Billy Idol, Rodney Crowell, Luis Miguel, David Lee Garza, New Edition, Frankie Avalon… just a few of them.
Shows/Plays – Hamilton, Mamma Mia, Wicked, Waitress and many more.

Steps – There was a time when I was obsessed in getting my steps in. I’ve walked all around San Antonio and surrounding area. Good thing I had El Stick with me on all those adventures.

The people I’ve met… amazing, friendly and good people that I hope to keep in touch with. I will miss you, but I’m so blessed I met you and your in my life.

Work – I worked at a web hosting company, the Stare of Texas, an oil field company snd a fire station.

Food – Lordy, I’ve eaten more Mexican food here than when I lived in Michigan and Kentucky! BBQ food was amazing. Mediterranean, Greek, Cajun, Italian… we ate some really good food. Luckily, Dannie likes to go to out of the way places. So we have really enjoyed our food journey.

South Texas heat is NO JOKE! 🔥It took me a while to get use to 115° in my car when I got out of work. But now, if it’s 80° out, it’s a little chilly for me. Don’t know what I’m going to do in Oregon in the winter. ❄️

Everything is BIG in Texas. Thst include the bugs. Im nit going to miss them.

I can’t forget about another one of my Happy Places… BUC-EE’S! Don’t worry, there is one in Colorado, just 19 hours away. 😝

There is so much more that I’ve done in these past 20 years and ton more pictures. Just post a few… heck, you know me, a lot of pictures. But I want to post here so it will pop up in the future feeds.

So, we hit the road on Saturday, May 31 and start our 2,200 miles drive. Say a prayer for us. We are so excited about our next adventure.

I’ll be posting our trip with updates. And guess who is going to make an appearance on this road-trip??

Yep, El Stick will be with us on this journey. 🤣

Love y’all and this isn’t goodbye, we will still stay in touch.

My Mom, Lydia M. Garza

My sister, Cynthia Garza Keesler, just reminded me what today was.

It’s been 12 years since our Mom left us. So hard to believe it’s been that long already.

Today’s post is similar to the ones that I have posted for the last 11 years. But I still feel the same exact way.

❤️

January 10, 2010… it’s been 12 years since my mom, Lydia M. Garza died. It’s hard to believe that it has already been that long. Sometimes it feel longer and other times it feels like it just happened.

Until we meet again mom, I miss you and I love you more than I can say!

If Roses Grow In Heaven

If roses grow in Heaven Lord
Please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my Mother’s arms
and tell her they’re from me.
Tell her I love her and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
Place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for a while.
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it everyday,
But there is an ache within my heart
That will never go away.

R.I.P. General Colin Powell

Well, posting a current event today.

Colin Powell passed away today and saw this post and wanted to share it. It’s the most simplest of things that makes our lives better.

David Muir posted this.

General Colin Powell posted this a few years back joking he’d been taking selfies 60 years longer than the rest of us. He often spoke of 13 Rules.

Image

1/ It ain’t as bad as you think. It will look better in the morning.
2/ Get mad, then get over it.
3/ Avoid having your ego so close to your position that when your position falls, your ego goes with it.
4/ It can be done.
5/ Be careful what you choose.
6/ Don’t let adverse facts stand in the way of a good decision.
7/ You can’t make someone else’s choices.
8/ Check small things.
9/ Share credit.
10/ Remain calm. Be kind.
11/ Have a vision.
12/ Don’t take counsel of your fears or naysayers.
13/ Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier.

These are rules that I want to live by.

I was not born yet when Richie Valens was around. But after seeing the movie “La Bamba”, it made me a fan.

Song of the Day — Young Hearts Run Free

Today’s song is a blast from the past. I was a little too young to enjoy the Disco era and going to the discos to dance. So glad I’m able to listen to the music of that time.

Song of the Day — Who Says You Can’t Go Home

“Who Says You Can’t Go Home” by Jon Bon Jovi and Jennifer Nettles (2005)

https://youtu.be/5CeX5VEo10c

Such an unusual pair to sing this song. But it works. Had a chance to see Jon Bon Jovi sing this song in concert.
