Consumed & Kites

Sorry for the lack of excitement on the blog. My life has been consumed with the Ladies Conference. Have you noticed a lack of blogging on Holly & Katie's blogs? Some of our coordinators (Shealey & Mallory) have put us to shame.
This is also my busy time at work with 3 events in March!

The Conference was excellent. The drama was hilarious but convicting. The breakout sessions were instructive but inspiring. Holly and I had terrific coordinators and lots of strong prayer warriors.

My Aunt Shelia & Uncle Jim came up for the conference.

They probably weren't expecting to be our kite holders.

The kite was much more effort than the 50 cents it costs (and we reminded mom of this many times)

Finally it caught air for about 30 seconds

These two decided that kite wasn't there thing

Lottie has a new best friend

She loves Jack and Jack thinks she is wonderful. Unfortunately Casey didn't want to take her home.

The kite soon became boring

I wonder what Colt "the man of many questions" is asking Shelia.

Wes caught a fish. Colt refused to hold it but wanted his picture with the fish.

Loving this weather! We love eating outside every night and playing until we have to carry the kids to the bathtub!

Colt & Annie Grace Want To Tell You...

They got a black, hairy little baby!

Meet Lottie

Colt and I picked up Lottie in Birmingham yesterday. She loved chasing Colt around in the yard.

This little bundle of joy reminded me at 5:30 a.m. why I am not ready to have another child!

Valentines and Cowboys

Each year my mom does a Valentines breakfast for the family. We have heart shaped sausage, pink heart pancakes, heart shaped buscuits and other yummy breakfast food. Its fun to get together before we head off our seperate directions. I really tried to get cute pictures of all the grandchildren in their Valentines best. Right when I had everyone smiling, Wes said "Look Cam Newton is out". Cam (the donkey in case you aren't a regular around here) gets out because his donkey friend, Pricilla, knows how to open the gate just enough for Cam to slip out.

Then my camera battery died so I replaced it with a cheap battery.

Buggy and Colt love each other. Colt told me that he doesn't want to be called "Rooster" anymore. His new nickname is "Moose".

This little girl is a mess. Her nickname is "Boo".

Friday night we met Katie & Jack Mantooth and Mandy & Cooper Rouse at the Cowboy Roundup.
Roundup

The Roundup is the mom & son version of the daddy daughter dance. Colt loved watching the cowboys rope a cow. He is already talking about going next year!

I know I still need to work on centering my pictures! I promise its coming!

Confessions From a Coupon Flunky

After hearing me complain about our grocery bill each week, Wes suggested I try couponing. I think his exact words were "try that thing Holly and Maggie do to save money". I spent an afternoon visiting every coupon website, blog and newspaper I could to learn the art. Even after reading comments like "it only takes me 2 hours every Sunday to organize my coupons" and "my plastic shoebox is categorically organized with each product in the store" and my favorite, "I bought 18 things of men's deodorant for $3" I trudged on.

I flunked. I failed. I hated it.

Picture this. I go into CVS and pickup the sales insert. I wander the aisle trying to figure out what I really need (nothing). If I buy a variety of products that equal $25, I get a free pack of Charmin. Evidently, I was the last person in Opelika to discover this deal. Of the items on the list still avaliable, I picked up 2 (Gain & Duracell-none of which we need) plus my Charmin and go check out. There was a line behind me. My items did not equal $25. I leave the store with 3 items I don't need and getting no extra bucks, or whatever the heck I'm suppose to get!

So cross couponing off my list. (At the First Baptist Ladies Conference there will be a breakout session on couponing. I might sneak in the back)

I decided my next challenge would be to eat out of our pantry and freezer. I took inventory of everything in these locations. This also motivated me to throw out those expired things and nasty frozen chicken nuggets my kids refused to eat.

Saturday night I made a meal list for the next to weeks. I wrote down every event we have and what dinner would be. For example, Wednesday nights we have church so Tuesday nights I should cook something that can be leftover the next night. This calendar/list is on our fridge. From this meal list (and my inventory list), I made my grocery list.

By using what we already have, I only spent $107 at the grocery store for lunch (me & Wes), dinner and snacks for our family for 2 weeks. This is only day 2 of the meal planning trial run. But, last night when I was at bible study, Wes looked at the list and cooked dinner while I was gone! Success!!
