Obedient Plant

Image
Image

Recently I went on a tour of the Thanksgiving Point Gardens Tulip Festival. All the tulip bulbs at Thanksgiving Point are shipped here from Holland and they are magnificent! The day I walked through these breath-taking gardens the tulips were "arrayed in all their glory". It was a joyful, pleasant, peaceful, beautiful walk. In the midst of the flowers is a marker - "Obedient Plant". It reminded me of life. If we are obedient to the laws we are governed by (like plants and flowers!) we are happy and filled with light, we reach up to the sky...and we bring forth beauty for everyone to enjoy.

Image

Megan decided to dress up for Halloween.

For her costume she decided to be...

A Most Unforgettable Man

July 5, 1999 marks the tenth anniversary of the passing of Tom (Moon) Mullin, the most unforgettable, funniest, and interesting man I have ever known. He married my sister, Jolyn, and took her away to California - for which we will probably never forgive him, except that he WAS a California kid, and needed to be there, be with his dad, be a lumberman, and raise his kids as California kids, like he was. It seems like yesterday that we were golfing together in Ojai, or hanging around a pool in Hawaii, or hiking in the mountains above Alta on one of their visits to Utah, or laughing as Moon and Jiggs "sparred" with each other about everything under the sun, especially on the golf course. There never has been, and never will be, a man quite like Tom Mullin - and I will be ever grateful for his friendship, his brotherhood, his love of my little sister, his love of his children, and, of course, for introducing me to my wife. He has had a huge impact on me, among many, many others, an impact that has not been dimmed by time, and will be everlasting. I will never forget the tribute paid to him at his funeral service by those who worked with him, and worked for him, as they drove dozens of red Terry Building Center trucks in a "procession" to the funeral and to the cemetary. He was one in a million - and I am and will be forever thankful that I knew him, and that we are connected eternally. Moon...we love you, we miss you, you made us laugh, you inspired us, you strengthened us, and continue to do so. We will never forget!

We Still Miss You!

Ten years ago today (April 9, 1999) our dad, grandpa, friend, partner, and golf pal died. Jiggs was the most interesting, enthusiastic, positive, hard working, loving man I have ever known.
ImageHe loved his dear June, loved his kids, LOVED his grandkids, loved golf, basketball, coaching, working, Hawaii, people, and loved life. ImageHe never met a challenge that he didn't think he could conquer - and worked until he did conquer anything that stood in his way. His favorite scripture and motto - "Search diligently, pray always, be believing..." is what he lived by.
ImageI think about him everyday. I wish I could play golf with him again, watch a basketball game with him, watch the Masters with him (that's the last thing I ever did with him - the day before he died we sat and watched the Masters all afternoon). ImageI wish I was more like him! Here's to our dad - we miss you!
(Thanks for the pictures Marty--I "borrowed" them from you!)
