Pracitcing our names

Since Jessica broke her arm last week looking for lizards, I thought it would be good practice for the kids to write their names by signing her cast. They loved getting to write on her! :)

All about numbers, letters, and the Hogs

The past two weeks we learned all about numbers 1-10. We did several activities to explore how to write the numerals and different ways to make groups of the varios numbers.

Image
I'm not sure why this is upside down, but the kids very creative in helpng find ways to group different numbers to make a larger number. We had 3 girl turtles and 2 boy turtles to make 5 all together.

Image
Adam did a great job of showing us what the number 6 would like on a die and domino.

Image
Mrs. Jenkins came to our class on Friday to talk about letters and the beginning letters of our names. The kids were told to create something using their first letter. Rachel made a cute girl with earrings.

Image
Of course, we couldn't end our week without talking about the Hogs.

Image
Hopefully, one day our good vibes will be sent to the Razorbacks and we'll actually win!

The kids have turned blue!

Bruster's brought blue Italian Ice to school today. It was fun to see everyone's mouth turn completely blue!

I love this place!

Mrs. Hardin has been out sick for a few days, so my wonderful K team has really worked together to help her out. Today, we split up her class amongst the rest of the K teachers. Team Dees got the privilege of sharing our classroom with Lilly and Nicholas' twin brother, Caleb. I must say that I was very proud of my entire class for how they all shared with Caleb and Lilly!

Even though we had two extra bodies in our room, we still had lots of learning going on. I introduced the letter "P" today, so we talked about a lot of different /p/ words. Nolan was our " teacher of the day" and helped us discover more p words on Starfall.com.

Image

We then sorted pictures according to the beginning sounds. You can talk about the beginning sounds of words at home, the stores, or anywhere else younget the chance. It's great practice!

Image

I bought a new alphabet/number puzzle for my puzzle station last night. I love how Avaleigh and Emann even put the puzzle pieces in ABC order once they were finished!

Don't forget to send $2 tomorrow for Bruster's Italian ice!

Lots of learning going on!

I introduced the "Read to someone else" station today...it was a big hit! Reading to someone else is a great way to build fluency as well as getting more confident with their own reading. I told the class that when it was their turn to read to someone else, they either had to read to their partner, or they could choose one of my book bears.

My husband used to travel a lot when we were dating and he would always buy me a Hard Rock Cafe bear. I have had them in storage for years because I don't like to get rid of anything, so I thought today would be the perfect day and way for these cute bears to be used! I introduced the class to my friends San Antonio, Memphis, London, Paris, New Orleans, and New York. Aren't they cute?!?!

Emann did a great job with Rainbow Writing the sight word "I" with our new dry erase crayons that Nicholas brought. Thanks so much for the fun crayons!

Image

We learned all about the number 3 this afternoon. Nicholas, Chloe, and John helped us see what 3 piggies would look like inside of a ten frame.

Image

Then we practiced writing the number 3. Let your child practice this at home...it's a tricky number!

We went to computer lab at the end of the day and got to practice using the mouse on Microsoft Paint again. The kids did a great job drawing different shapes and coloring them.

Say c-c-cheese!

Today was a BUSY day with picture day. Everyone looked so handsome/cute!

We practiced writing c's today and discussed what could start with a "c". You can help at home by talking about common things around the house and what beginning sound they hear. You can do this every week with the new letters that we're lear ing that week. My 4-year-old is studying the letter c in her class this week as well and it's her turn for show and tell with something that begins with c. So she and I talked about the three sounds that c can make: /c/, /k/, and /ch/. Well, of course, my snack-loving/Cheeto-loving girl instantly chose to take a bag of Cheetos for her show and tell. I love it!

Emann, Nolan, Zack, and Carrie helped us identify various pictures that began with c. They did a great job of showing us how to write the letter, too.

A busy rainy day

We sure were busy with learning and singing on this rainy day!

Image

Check out Adam applying our new and old letters that we've already learned. He did a good job of sounding out the word cat. And do you see the word "crocodile" that Alexee wrote next to Adam's word?

Image

Adam quickly realized that we've been learning c and not k. He also realized that c made the /k/ sound, too.

Image

We worked more on writing complete sentences and applied segmenting onsets and rimes when spelling. I love how Chloe sounded out "outside" and added her period! The sentence, btw, says "Team Dees went outside."

Image

Here's the culprit of placing the crayons behind the ears. I finally got him to sit still for a pic! Can you see that he has 2 crayons?

Mrs. Pollard and my class totally surprised me and blew me away with singing our school song today when I picked them up! I have to admit that even after being here for three years, I still don't know all of the words. Aren't they talented!

Here's my Star Student for Music...Avaleigh.

Don't forget that tomorrow is picture day!

It's still good to be King/Queen!

Here are the rest of my fabulous Kings and Queens. Everyone did a fantastic job sharing information about themselves!

Image

Queen Jessica was our final queen of the day. She's been out for a few days because she broke her arm. The kids have been so worried about her and have been full of questions about why she wasn't at school. Jessica did a great job wi telling us about how she fell off the porch trying to catch a lizard. You gotta love an animal lover! She then preceded to show us a white turtle shell that had the imprint of the vertebrae. Pretty cool!

Image

King Aaron showed us a couple of his favorite books. This one had 1001 things to find throughout the book. I'm sure he's found all of them, too.

Image

Queen showed us her favorite snack...fruit snacks. Yummo!

Image

Queen Lezlie brought several things Dora. She's a HUGE hit in my very own house as I'm sure she is/was with your homes too based off off everyone's reaction when Lezlie kept talking about Dora. ;)

Image

Queen Emann showed off her favorite softy. I think I could have sweet dreams cuddling up with this cute pup, too.

Image

King Justin brought his ears, Mickey Mouse ears that is, to show us. He was very proud of those! Do you still have your mosur ears from childhood?

Image

King Nicholas brought his "Big Machines" game. And he brought some train stuff to show, of course.

Image

Queen Rachel is definitely a girly girl. Besides her dance shoes, she brought her nail polish. Don't worry...we do do any manis that day. ;)

Let's call those Hogs!

Do I have fair-weather fans or what? ;) Check out this week's class vote...

Image

Image

Rachel was the first one to vote against the Hogs today.

Image

Jessica and Adam both wore Razorback jerseys, but do you see something wrong here? They both voted for Bama to win! I've got to be honest...I kind of am thinking the same thing, though. I later found out that more kids voted for the "elephants" instead of the Hogs. Ha!
