A post about our house. Ben and I have been pretty committed to not accumulating any revolving debt while settling into our house. We've been in our house for a year, and it's coming along! I love Betsy's nursery. My office/lady cave is very functional (for all my crafty projects). Our guest room is comfortable. Our back porch is great for entertaining, and we use it frequently.
Our dining room is empty but functional. It's been nice to put Betsy's portacrib and toys in there and let her crawl around and play. And I can remove the baby gear, throw up tables and chairs to entertain our wonderful family and friends (we do this a lot).
We love our living room too... my plan was to save up for the rest of this year and have custom cabinets built in the living room. It was the next project on my list! Now that Betsy is into EVERYTHING we need to baby proof the electronics.
Our bedroom has been at the bottom of my list. No one sees it but us (and Betsy!) and I doubt she's going to tell the world that none of Mommy and Daddy's bedroom furniture matched. However, Thursday I came home and Ben mentioned...our $20 temporary garage sale dresser was kaput. I wasn't too stressed about this. It was a temporary fix because buying a bedroom suit was low on our priority list. I went into our bedroom and realized, it's REALLY broken. As in you can't open the drawers any longer.

These would be the nightstands (been around for about 10 years) and the lingerie chest (another garage sale find) that don't match. The nightstands are great quality, solid wood from a different unfinished furniture store in Houston!

My wonderful friend Allyson was visiting this weekend, and she and I ventured out to the unfinished furniture store in Temple. It just so happened they did not have a truck arrive this weekend, so they were offering 10% off their furniture in stock and 50% off the cost of finishing. I bit the bullet and bought a dresser. It looks similar to this.

Ally and I also hit up Home Depot to look at hardware and supplies so I can refinish the bedroom pieces I have. These are the handles I'm going to put on the dresser, the night stands and the lingerie chest. My new dresser is being painted black, and I'm refinishing the other pieces to match. P.S. I learned about sand paper grit yesterday. For all the projects I helped my dad do over the years, how did I not realize sand paper had different levels of grit?!

Wish me luck on this new project! And for you handy types, any advice you can offer?
