Lights at Temple Square (AZ style)

EveryImage time we mention that we are going or have goneImage to see the lights on temple square, everyone here in Mesa corrects us and says you mean the Mesa Temple.  I don't know, I think temple square is a pretty fitting name for the Mesa temple, have you looked at it....it is about as square as they come.  I think if there is a Temple, Imagevisitor center,  and distribution center, all with in a SQUARE block, than it is grandfathered in as a Temple Square.  Just humor me people and say...Oh, have a great time.  ImageOr, oh yes the lights sure are lovely.  Any ways here are some pictures of our visit to Temple Square here at the Mesa Temple.  And again it was fun to have my Imagemom with us, she had never experienced seeing the lights in 60 degree weather and we even enjoyed a few songs from a horn quartet...until we remembered our home teachers would be at our house in 20 min.  It was another great Christmasy evening.

Bass Pro Shop

SeeingImage Santa really doesn't get much better than at Imagethe Bass Pro Shop!  ImageWe met Matt there just as he got off work, so that we could avoid the crowds.  It was perfect!  We walkedImage in, got in line and right as it was almost our turn, in Imagewalked Matt.  I will let you decide for your self, but I think this isImage the real Santa.  He took hisImage time with the kids and made sure to tell them to leave some milk and cookies for him to eat onImage Christmas Eve...Oh and not just white milk, but to make sure it is CHOCOLATE!!!  They have all sorts of fun activities to do there , like Imageshooting guns, a marry-go-round. racing cars, fake snowball fights, a Christmas craft, writing a letter to Santa...plus all the fun fish and ATV's.  We had a great time! And loved having my mom there with us too.

SnOw Fun!!! (Williams Arizona)

The Imagenext day after Polar Express we took the morning to Imagerelax and enjoy each others company, then helped our self to the free Breakfast and got us each a Hot Chocolate forImage the trip home.  We didn't really come prepared with our snow gear, but we did have Coats and the kids gloves, so we figured Imagelets enjoy it!!!  We just played in the parking lot and then there was a small mountain type thing that we climbed up into fresh powder. I of coarse had my Doc Martin Shoes that I just can't seem to part with....I think they are going on 13 years now.Image Any ways they are nice and slippery and make sliding on ice perfect!!!  And when we were nice and cold, we got into the car and had our hot chocolate to drink on the way home.  It was a wonderful trip!!!  Here is some video of us sliding around on the ice.

The Polar Express 2011

Image
I know I need to post about our Utah trip, but I want to do our Polar Express trip first. This is our 6th year to do the Polar Express. You can click each year to see our past Polar Express trips. 2006 (didn't have a Imageblog yet), 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010.  This has got to be one of our favorite family traditions.  So Magical!!!  We usually watch the Polar Express movie in our hotel room, but we got a late start this Imageyear and ended up watching it in the car, as we wouldn't have time when we got to Williams, AZ.  On top of getting kind of a late start, we also hit some pretty bad weather.  Despite the tough outward appearance of our car it actually is not 4 wheel drive, in fact it is only rear wheel and is really crappy when it comes to driving in the snow.  When we lived in Kaysville, we bought some snow chains to keep with us in the winter time in case we got into trouble and they always accompany us when we travel in the winter months.  Up until now, we never had a chance to use them.  But on the way up,Image I kind of had a little "come apart" as Matt called it and he was good enough to pull over to put the chains on.  They were so easy to put on and were amazing and absolutely had NO slipping whatsoever. We only had the chains on for about 35 min and then the sun came out, plows were out and it stopped snowing.  ImageWe made it to Williams just in time to pick up our tickets and get checked into our hotel.  The kids loved finally being able to get in to their new jammies.  ImageWe had the most beautiful view out our hotel room window and we loved looking out at the fresh new snow.  We had an earlier train time then normal, leaving at 5:30pm.... Imageso it is fun to have some different pictures then the past times we have gone and it is already totally dark.  I love the Imageone of the kids looking out their train window as we rode through the cute town of Williams.  Some of the other pictures are of the kids with their tickets,Image out chefs from out train car and of coarse us as a family in front of our train car. Once we get on the train, the fun only gets better with hot chocolate and cookies.  ImageHave I mentioned how much I love this little family of mine!!!!  Seriously The BEST!!!!  I got a cute picture of the kids looking out the window at the north pole, but our picture of the kids getting their bell from Santa turned out WAY blurry....bummer!  I hate it on those "you only get one shot" kind of pictures. Image Cody wanted to pretend to be asleep with his bell....isn't he so convincing?? After a wonderful train ride we went to see Mrs. Clause.  Elena has quite a thing for her and was so excited to talk with her again this year.  As always the Polar Express is such a wonderful way to really kick start our holiday season.   MAGICAL!!!! K- I tried cutting out some Imagepictures, but I couldn't decide wich ones to cute. Oh well,Image here are the rest of the pictures.  :)ImageImageImage

Washington

AImage couple of weeks ago I went on a trip all by myself.  I have never done this EVER!!!  It was wonderful.  I have a friend who helped me with taking Elena to Pre-K and picking up the kids from school Imageand letting them play at with her kids until Matt could pick them up.  Then Matt took Thursday and Friday off.  I went to my sister Karen's home first, she lives in Camas, Washington.  It was beautiful weather with lots of sun.  I was freaking out with all of the autumn leaves and colors.  I kept taking pictures as we would drive to wherever we were going to.  I hadn't been to Washington for almost 12 years, I had forgotten how beautiful it really is there....especially compared to AZ.  No that Mesa is ugly, it just has its own beauty. Image Flying into Portland, OR was breathtaking...so georgouse!!!!  It was fun to see Karen's new house and felt like I was living in a resort. Image I love this picture of my paper plate breakfast on her 23 foot kitchen island. Ahh the luxuries of life!!!!  I had so much fun hanging out with Karen and my niece Madison, who I can't believe is a Sr. in High School this year.  The time went way too fast and before I knew we were on our way to Country Cousins.  This little restaurant happens to be the halfway point from Imagemy sister Karen's house and my sister Lisa's house.  It was fun to meet up for lunch and then do some shopping together.  Then we made the switch and I had to say good bye to Karen and now started my time with Lisa.  I am mad that I never pulled out my camera at Lisa's house.  She lives in Bellevue Washington and it is just as beautiful, but the weather had turned to its normal cloudy rainy day.  Me and Lisa had a great time relaxing, shopping and hanging with the family (four kids and a husband).   ImageWe went on a few walks and I couldn't believe the size of leafs they have.  Here is a comparison against my deodorant.  I decided to grab a couple to bring home to the kids.  It was a very fun and much needed trip, but I was ready to come home and be the mom again.  ImageThanks Matt for being such a great dad that made it possible for me to have a stress free trip.  I arrived home late Sunday night and happened to see my neighbors on the flight home.  They were so nice and asked if they could give me a ride home from the airport.  We were all grateful Matt didn't have to wake the kids up to come and pick me up.  What a great coincidence!!!  And thanks Karen and Lisa for having me as your guest!!!  It was so much fun!!!

Halloween

As you can see the kids finally have new Halloween Costumes.  They have been a pirate and a ladybug for the past three years.  Their costumes were just too cute, we were in a different state for every Halloween Imageand the costumes worked well for school...comfy, no masks and not embarrassing.  But this year Elena was WAY TOO BIG for her little ladybug costume and Cody really wanted to be a ninja.  So we retired the costumes and found replacements.  Anyways so after the kids got home from school and all of their parties, we made sugar cookies.  I don't know if the kids are growing upImage or if I am growing up.  But I am becoming not such a perfectionist and actually let them just run wild with the decorating of the cookies.  I only did ghost and I frosted them all white and turned them loose.  They did a great job and I love the way they look!  Yes, I think it is me that is growing up.  Then I made mummy hot dogs and chilli for dinner.  ImageWe all wanted to go out ImageTrick or Treating as a family, so we left a bowl of candy with a sign that said "take one".  We must have a very honest neighborhood, because much to our surprise, after an hour and a half, we still had five pieces when we came back home.  The kids had fun trick or treating and handing out candy once we got home.  ImageOne thing that I was super mad at myself for was we never carved pumpkins.  Saturday night I went to Walmart buy a pumpkin and they were completely sold out.  I wanted to go to another store, but we had ice cream in the car.  I asked the kids if they wanted to carve a pumpkin but have soupy ice cream or have hard yummy ice-cream and not carve pumpkins.  They chose the ice cream.  I still feel bad though.  Oh well next year right?  And for your enjoyment I have included yet another wonderful dance video, by the one and only..... C- DOG and LIL MISS.  Enjoy!!!!!

Elena's School

Image ImageImage

It worked out perfectly that I was able to go strait from helping at Cody's School over to Elena's School.  Her Imageteacher had a short little Halloween program and then took the kids trick or' treating to a few neighbor houses. I am glad it all worked out so that I could go!  SheImage looks soo dang cute all sparkly in the sunshine!!!! Earlier in the Imageweek she was also allowed to ware her Halloween Costume to dance.  She loved looking at herself in the mirrors as she danced.  Ahhh, I love it!!
