The Piano Guys

I Imageam so behind it is not even funny.  Oh well, baby steps...just taking one thing at a time and today, you get my post on The Piano Guys.  Jon Schmidt is a name that has been known around our house for many many years.  But just in the past year or so The Piano Guys have Imagecompletely taken over!!! If you have not seen their You Tube Movies, it is a must....go Google the Piano Guys or click here for one of my favorites.  The other day, I caught Cody being creative during his piano practicing time.  He was trying to pull a Jon Schmidt.  I think he was a little disappointed to see it was not as easy as Jon makes it look to play upside down. Image I posted this picture on Face Book with the caption of Jon Schmidt in training. Any ways, thanks to a couple of my friends knowing Jon personally, he made a comment to Cody.  How cool is that of him!!!! What a great person for my kids to look up to and admire.  Any ways we went to his concert here in AZ on the 21st and had a blast!!!!! It was amazing and super fun!!! ImageI was a little bummed at our seats.  I thought we were on the front row of the balcony, when really there was no balcony. It was just the very back section of the auditorium and you stepped up one step to get to your seat. Had I known that, I would have chosen our seats closer up, and not on the "balcony" but it turned out ok.  It did giveImage the kids a little more room to move around and were were by this brick wall so that Elena could run her fingers down theImage lines of the bricks....bonus!!!!  The kids did great!!!! I had to remind Elena a couple of times not to hum to the music, and she fell asleep before it was over, but they both really enjoyed it.  ImageThe line was WAY long to get a picture with Jon and it was already 10:00pm, so we opted for this ...boot leg one (ya that is Jon way in the back ground posing for a picture with some stranger.)  Along the lines of concert going, I took the kids to the Messiah Sing-In.  Matt and I wanted to go so bad and our friend was the Soprano Soloist, so that made it even more exciting to go.  But Matt was out of town, and I didn't really want to get a babysitter for the kids, so I took them with.  ImageThey were very good, but I will letImage these pictures speek for how much they enjoyed it.  But since then, I have caught them on several occasions singing parts of the Hallelujah Chorus and recognizing it when it would play.  So I am so glad that it work out to take them.  It really was a wonderful night for me.

1st Day of School Take One!

The kids are in different schools this year.  Elena missed the deadline to go to the public school here, but she got accepted at the new Charter School that is right by our house.  Both schools are about the same distance from our house, just opposite directions.  It is like a triangle and our house is the point of the triangle and each school is at each side of the base. I am very impressed with both schools, and although I would love to have them in the same school next year....neither one of them wants to go to the others school.  ImageSchool rivalry or school pride...not sure which one.  Anyways, Elena's school started a week and a half before Cody's school so here is her first day of school story.  Sunday July 29th was the day before Elena started Kindergarten.  Matt had to go to Yuma that night, so we took care of Fathers Blessings and such before he left.  Matt left around 7:00pm and  I started to get Elena to bed.  We had had several late nights and she also had a little cold.  I tried to get her to bed early, but before I knew it it is was after 8:00pm.  I finally got her all tucked into bed.  Around 9:30pm Matt called and said his car stalled.  We had a big monsoon come through Imageand Matt drove through a few too many puddlesImage on the way out to Yuma.  Somehow stalled his car.  We figured this was the end for the 230,000 mile Honda Accord.  It was after 10:00pm before Matt finally decided it was not going to start and needed us to come get him.  He called a tow truck and I woke the kids up and loaded them in the car.  Luckily we only had to go to Mericopa City where the tow truck would drop ImageMatt and the car off.  We deiced to give the car one last charge and see if any thing happened.  We charged the battery for a little while and sure enough, that thing started right up.  So off Matt went to Yuma and I took my tired kids home to bed. Image It was almost 1:00am when we got home.  ImageSo I hated to wake poor Elena up for school the next morning.  You can definitely see in these pictures that she was not at top notch, but cold and lack of sleep she was a real trooper for her first day of all day kindergarten. Image I tried to let her sleep in as long as possible, so we were pushing time a little bit.  She choose a nice balanced breakfast of Lucky Charms, we got her dressed and did Imageour newest go to hair style...brushed hair with a headband... well most of the time it is brushed!!!   She looked completely adorable in her uniform with argyle heart socks. ImageHer new school dose not allow character back packs, since she had a princess one, she used Cody's while her new one was on order.Image She had a great day and came home happy and worn out from her big day.  I sure am proud of my big Kindergartner!!!!  Here is a cute video from a few days after school started. Her friends were over for a play date and they wanted to recite their school pledge.  Pretty impressive!!!

1st Day of School Take Two!

Cody's first day of school was not quite as eventful as Elena's thank goodness.  Somehow ImageI have given myself the task of waking the kids up, Imageby carrying them down stairs and laying them on the couch.  Then I make them a comfy place to sit at the table, by covering their chair with one of their blankets.  Elena is an early bird and is usually up and going before it is time to wake Cody up.  But Cody...Imagewell he has a rough time in the morning.  We start plenty early, but he likes to drag his feet...literally!!!  But somehow in the last few minuets we somehow get him pulled together and get out the door.  And of course there is that bright sun again making great squinty eyed pictures.  I can't believe Cody is now in the 3rd grade! Image He is a great student and is loved by everyone.  ImageWay to go Cody!!!  And I have adjusted well to being home alone, but I look forward to when it is pick up time and they can come home!!!

Elena's Birthday Party

Image

WOW!!!!  Image12 girls together sure sounds an awful  lot like 80 girls together.  Despite the squealing and a few rounds of saying The Pledge of Allegiance, Elena's 5th Birthday Party was so fun.Image  ImageElena wanted a Hula Party....not a Luau, but a Hula Party.  I found some Hula Skirts and knew this party was a go.  I only had 13 skirts, Imageso we had to narrow down some of her friends, which was very hard for her to do.  I felt really bad when two days before the party I found a Target bag in Imagemy closet with five more Hula skirts, but at that point, it was too late to invite those few friends that we didn't invite.  However after today, I am glad we only had 12 girls here.  It was a full house of girls.  They all looked adorable in their hula skirts.  We played some games like find what coconut shell has the candy under it.  (have three shells, put candy under one of them, mix them up and guess what shell has the Candy.)  The girls LOVED it!!!  ImageI taught them how to Hula...ya, I really don't know, but I just kind of did the basic move your hands to one side and then move them to the other side and a little bit of hip action.  And we did a Congo line.  ImageThen we ate dinner and then made (Leis) Hula Necklaces.  It was a little tricky to get them started. ImageThey had to string on cut up straws and flower petals, but they all caught on quickly and they turned out really cute.  Then we played pin the coconut on the palm tree.  I told Matt to take some pictures, because my hands were busy getting tape on the coconut and blindfolding and spinning Imagethe girls. He took only one picture of it and the rest Imagewere of the cat peaking in the window.  But oh was I glad her was Imagethere to help!!!   I took this picture of the pin the coconut on the palm tree after the party.... It was a very last minute addition and I think turned out cute and the girls enjoyed it too.  We then opened presents and had cupcakes. Again....I guessImage I am getting lazy or uncreative in my old age.  I did Walmart cupcakes again.  Seriously!!!!  SOOO EASY!!!! Image Birthday Parties take a lot out of me, but so worth it to see the joy of my little sunshine surrounded by all her friends.  Here is a small snip-it of the girls and their lovely voices.

Happy 5th Birthday Elena

ImageThere is no stopping it....each year they just keep getting older.  My baby turned 5 on September 27th!!!  She woke up before we did so we couldn't wake her up by singing Happy Birthday like we normally do.  It was a school day so it wasn't much of anything special for her in the morning.  But her breakfast requests were fulfilled.  ImageShe wanted Rice Krispies with Bananas and a Graham Cracker with Gold Fish Crackers on it. (the graham cracker with goldfish....that must have just been a special birthday request because we have never had that one before or since then.) After scooting off to get kids to school, I had to run a few errands one of which was picking up some balloons for Elena.  So I guess there is a helium shortage and I had to go all over town to find a Dollar Tree with helium.  Then I hurried to grab some treats for Elena's class.  Of course theyImage didn't have just normal Rice Krispy Treats, so I had to hurry and write Happy Birthday Elena on each one...I couldn't just leave it blank!!!  I put them all in a zip-lock bag and tied a cute ribbon around it and tied a balloon on to it too.  I was going to take a picture of it, but than decided on waiting and getting a picture of Elena at school with it.  I took it and dropped it off, but they were having circle time on the rug.  Dang...no picture. Then I had to get to Cody's School to help out there for a few hours.Image When asked where Elena wanted to go for dinner, she just wanted to stay home and have Slimy Chicken (Costco rotisserie chicken).  Which made it convenient as we had Karate and Matt got home from work a little later than planed.  We had a nice family Birthday Party and had Elena's Birthmom over and also one of our close friends.  We also Skyped Matt's Parents while Elena opened her presents. And I promise...when Elena went to school today her leggings were clean and hole less. ImageWe were all so excited to get to the cupcakes, we forgot to get a candle in there and sing Happy Birthday until Elena had already started eating it. It was a fun day to celebrate an amazing day....the day our little Elena was born!!!!!

Legoland

ImageYes, we do seem to go to Legoland quite often. Our kids love it there and with the beach just a short ways from the hotel...how can you complain!!!!  And it is such a quick trip with Yuma (Matt has a building there, so it makes it nice to drive three hours, stay the night in Yuma and then a quick three more hours to Carlsbad) being a half way point. ImageWhen we went last June, in the back of our minds we thought....this may be our last time to go to Legoland....However, after the Horse Jousting Ride incident (click here for that one).  I knewImage we would have to come back!  And come back we did!!!  We decided to go last minute over the labor-day weekend.  We bought our tickets on line a few days before we left and started trying our luck at priceline.com to get a nice cheap hotel.  ImageWe needed one for three days, so we didn't want to risk getting a crapy one.  We kind of ran into a problem when we suddenly realized how expensive and booked up everything was for that weekend.  I knew it would be busy, but expensive didn't cross my mind.  I suddenly started wishing that we would have taken advantage of the Imageresorts here in Phoenix.  There are some pretty good deals to be had....scince no one wants to come in the middle of summer.  Then, we could have gone to Legoland in the fall. But alas we already had our tickets.  As we drove from Yuma to Carlsbad we still did not have our hotel arranged.  We gave our last go at priceline.....and we were denied for our cheapness.  I was on the brink of one of my come-apart Imagemoments...Well, lets be honest, Ok I completely came-apart and was freaking out that we didn't have a place to stay.....everything was booking up and so expensive.  Matt was like just chill, we will get a place. Image We decided to use our Hilton Honor Rewards, but we only had enough for two nights, so we would have to book a third separately.  SOOO.... we booked Saturday and Sunday, but Friday (which was the present day) had no openings.  Matt of course was still calm as can be...don't worry he said, they always have a cancellation."
ME :  Ya!  ImageOn Labor Day Weekend???? I was stressing.  But sure enough, I called at 5:50 pm and they had just had a cancellation.  Sweet!!!  We had our three nights booked!!!!  Sure that one night we DID have to pay for cost us as much as three nights total would have cost us on a normal non holiday weekend, but I didn't care anymore.  I was just super glad we had a place to go, since we would be arriving in 20 minutes.Image And of course Matt had to throw in there....See, I told you not to worry, I have these things all under control. :)  We decided to stop off at the beach, before going into our hotel.  The sun was just about to set as we searched for a parking spot.  We didn't make it to the water in time for the sunset, but we did get to see the sunset, beautiful!!!  ImageThe next morning we woke up ready to hit Legoland.  We had so much fun!!! Image The kids are old enough and tall enough and brave enough to do everything.  And to my surprise and happiness, it was not very crowded at all.  Of course we had to do the horse jousting one for Elena Imageand lets face the facts here....for me.  If we never go to Legoland again, I can live in peace and happiness knowing Elena got to do the horse jousting and I have some pretty darn cute pictures to prove it.  There was this one ride we had never been on.  It was Pirate Reef and you get soaked.  ImageTwo problems were.....I had white shorts on and Cody didn't Imagewant to get wet until he had his swim suite on (which was at the hotel).  So we were just going to force Cody on and I would deal with my pants being see-through....then the sensible me came out and I decided to stay with Cody.  Matt and Elena went on the ride without us.  I was bummed, because I love those kinds of rides and I think after the fact, Cody was kind of bummed when he saw how much fun it was.  Matt and Elena loved it and came off completely drenched from head to toe and than some!!!  But the next day Imagewe came back when we had our swim stuff and rode and re-rode this ride over and over again!!!!  Going to the Legoland water park was something we had never done before.  It was a blast and the water was really warm....I wasn't expecting that!  We also got to meet a few of the LegoImage Friends.  Elena was ecstatic, so much that it made her feel shy and she didn't want to go up and dance with them.  Cody was secretly really excited about the Lego Friends too. Matt on the other hand... he said he wanted to rip his arm off and beat himself with it.  I thought the show was cute!!!  One funny thing....there were some weird airplane markings in the sky....Matt and some other guy were stopped in their tracks trying to figure out what the airplanes were doing.  They were both looking Imageup at it trying to figure it out when all the sudden Matt says....I think it says...GEICO.  I died Imagelaughing, for some reason I found that ridiculously funny.  We brought this tiny stroller with us, mostly so we could keep our stuff in it, but Elena managed to cram herself into it several times and enjoyed the rest it gave her from walking. We usually don't buy the pictures from the roller coasters, but we decided to buy this one.  I love this because it really shows this new phase of life we have entered....the non baby phase.  ImageRiding the Dragon Roller coaster and pulling off heart hands and a cool calm look during a wild roller coaster ride... I LOVE IT!!!!  We also took them up on the option of having the picture turned into a LEGO.  ImageHow cool is that?!!!! And of course no Legoland trip is complete without the family picture with the lego Mom and lego baby.  I still think we look good as a family of five....But that may never happen, and you know what?  I am ok with that, because we ROCK'IT as a family of FOUR!!!!!
