Clifty Falls Campout

ImageLast weekend we went camping with my brother and his family to Clifty Falls State Park. We hadn't really thought about what an adventure that would be, by taking two 1-year-olds along. We were always saying, "Where's Brayden? Make sure Hudson stays out of that poison ivy over there. Brayden, the fire is hot. No, no... Hudson, don't eat that rock!" Image We had beautiful weather the first day and enjoyed hiking around. Both babies liked their view from the pack on Daddy's back. ImageSleepy baby ImageI smiled when I saw Clay's stash on the picnic table. He brought everything an 8 year old boy would need for a survival--binoculars, an adventure book, hat and headlamp, etc.ImageFun times splashing around in the creek:

ImageImageWe spent one afternoon exploring in the very quaint town of Madison. We got ice cream and some melt-in-your-mouth sugar cookies at cute shops.

Unfortunately, our trip got cut short. We learned that serious rain plus a leaky tent is not a good combination. So we grabbed all of our soaked sleeping bags and pillows, tore down the tent, made a mad dash to the car, and arrived home at midnight. It felt great to be in our dry beds that night!

Six

Emma is six today and we have celebrated big! Her doll cake was decorated by Grandma Rack… reminded me of the ones my Grandma Marge used to make me when I was a little girl.ImageImage

My parents bought her the American Girl doll Lanie, and Jeff’s gave her a doll bed and special quilt made by Grandma Rack. ImageShe was thrilled! Our kids get lots of lovin' from their awesome grandparents!

What I love about Emma:

Her tender spirit and innocent questions like yesterday, “Why do we have eyebrows?” (Anybody know the answer to that?)Image

Her compassion on others, especially babies.ImageThis photo was from last June, when Hudson was a newborn. She would lay in our bed and snuggle with him for hours! She still asks to hold him all the time, even though he’s about half as big as she is now. She calls him “Bubbie, booshka” in this real baby voice.

She loves fairy tales, princesses, tea parties, anything fancy/sparkly/pink. She likes to give Clay “jump hugs” (where you both hug and jump at the same time). Then they laugh like crazy and say, “Let’s do it again!” She loves to go on Starbucks dates with Daddy and help Mommy make cookies in the kitchen.

Emma Lu, we love you! We pray that God would draw you to Himself and that you would hear His voice and walk with Him all your life.

Eight

ImageCan't believe our little guy is eight today! At his birthday party last night, he lit his own candles. He's becoming so independent and growing up right before our eyes.

The other night, Jeff and I had some time alone with Clay on our front porch. We lit a candle and ate ice cream 'til the mosquitos came out and it was time for bed. We had a great talk about life, World War 2, Hitler and Bin Laden, and all kinds of other things his mind was thinking about. It was such a mature conversation, and it was one of those moments where we caught a glimpse of the person Clayton is becoming.

Some things I love about Clayton:

His adventurous spirit. Today he had on roller blades for at least half the day. When he first started, he was pretty wobbly, holding onto our kitchen chairs while trying to skate across our wood floor. Later on, he got brave and was out on the front porch whizzing around, yelling, "This is awesome!"
ImageHe loves to work with his hands building all kinds of things, with Legos, sticks, cardboard, staples, paper, etc. As a birthday present, Grandpa Dave spent a day in the woodshop with Clay last week. They made this neat hall tree for Clay's room.
ImageOur sweet next door neighbors had these signs in their windows for us to wake up to. When we happened to look out the window, we saw this:
ImageHappy Birthday, Clayton Scott! You are deeply loved by so many, including your Maker, your Father in Heaven. We pray that you will hear His voice above all the rest, and that you will follow Him all the days of your life.

Audra's Shower

ImageWe had a special bridal shower for my sister Audra this past weekend. It was so much fun to decorate and help plan for. For some decorations, I tore out pages of an old book and strung them on twine to make garland for the table as well as little paper "medallions." ImageImageWe made mini cupcakes and frosted them the night before.ImageImageImageImageImageImageWhile Audra opened gifts, the women shared bits of marriage advice and wisdom. Things like: Smile. Forgive. Choose your friends wisely. Don't hold grudges. Respect your husband. Always look for the positive, and find humor in something. Then we had a time of prayer for Audra and LT as they begin their lives together.
ImageImageAudra Kathryn, I am so proud of you and happy to be your sister. I pray that God would deeply bless your marriage to L.T. We are thrilled for you!
