Opening the front gate for Lucia, he saw a curtain twitch. He was halfway up the path when Anita Chang came down it, clutching a handbag in front of her, a clumsy prop meant to encourage the misconception that she was just on her way out.
'Alex!' she said without much pleasure.
'Anita,' he said without hope.
'And how did you find New York?'
'Pilot knew the way.'
Her fixed smile flat-lined.
'
Your dog?'
'A dog.'
'A dog that belongs to you?'
'A new dog in town. Visiting friends in the area. Trying out,' said Alex, as Lucia attacked a patch where Anita was growing daffodils, 'the local cuisine.'
'I see.'
'And i hear. And Endelmann, that's the dog, he touches. Grace smells, but you know that. We find someone with taste, we could make a band.'
- the autograph man; zadie smithhurhur. one of the funniest passages i've read in recent memory.

"the truth that's told with a bad intent
beats all the lies you can invent"
-william blake.
so if you ask me what i've been doing today, i'll merely reply watching sex and the city (season 1) and going to the polyclinic to get my mv extended.
by the way, don't you think it's just grand that the government now pays for my medical bills? i wonder if they'll pay for plastic surgery.
neither nus or smu has gotten back to me yet. what happens if they both don't want me???? then i'll be uni-less for the next one year!
this is quite nerve wrecking.
oh! and i spent time today catching up with colin and kero! which was quite an experience. not so much cause theyre both guys, but rather because i was left wondering how 2 people in love can be so mushy and disgustingly affectionate towards one another.
shoot me if i ever become like them.
hey you! 7:28 PM.

we're all just crazy people in search of love.
i survived the jungle darlings. it wasnt' as bad as everyone made it seem to be, and my sanity was kept intact by the heavy downpours in the afternoon, thereby resulting in all afternoon activites being cancelled. of course sleeping in wet clothes, on a leaking groundsheet, in a basha which threatens to collapse in the middle of the rain due to an improper drainage system dug by you and your buddy might not exactly be everyone's cup of tea, but hey, i made it through didnt i?
a word of advice. report sick half way through field camp and you get to go back to the company line and
purge yourself clean of filth. don't be like me & isaac, and hold it in for 7 days straight.
(and to think i nearly made it 8)this weekend's been horribly busy, what with rushing between interviews, bbqs, parties, doctor's appointment, lunches and a movie, i am shagged. which i dont suppose is the best way to prepare for a SHORT WEEK of army ahead! but well, i suppose i'll survive.
had a horrid law+business interview on saturday. i told them i had no idea what the difference between business and economics at the university level was, and proceeded to spend the next half of the interview talking about maids, accrediation agencies, why the government has laws to protect the rich and not the poor, and the inelastic demand curve for maids in singapore. horrifying stuff. smoked my way through the interview, and im pretty darn sure that they knew that i had no idea what i was talking about.
oh well. at least the written exam on the guilt of the richest man in singapore being caught sunbathing nude in the privacy of his own home was interesting.
we'll see.
i'll be back home on friday night darlings!
till then.
hey you! 2:52 PM.
