The Hague Food Guide

Welcome to ‘The Hague Food Guide’, which is maintained by me, Darice de Cuba. I’m a foodie, born and raised in Aruba, who has been living in The Hague for the past 20 years. Eating out and cooking are one of my hobbies. I like good food and can be very picky. I don’t need an upscale restaurant, my only rule is good and tasty food priced accordingly.

Here I keep a list of my go-to places in The Hague and some of the highlights in other cities. My focus is the city centre because it’s where I live and prefer places within walking distance. You might wonder why x and y places are not listed here, that is probably because I haven’t been yet, or they did not meet my requirements. Places that I really need to add but lost the photos are: Cantina Queru and Kua Mexican Kitchen. These authentic Mexican places are one of my absolute favourites. You always need to make a reservation ahead to get a spot, that’s how busy they always are.

The Regulars

Basaal

I'm more of a regular dining person than fancy dining. And with fancy dining, I mean course meals. I do like it, it's just something I do during special occasions. This time it wasn't a special occasion but a gift...

SLAB by Kaafi

It's the summer of Detroit style pizza at Kaafi. If you are not familiar with Detroit style pizza, it is a pan pizza with a chewy crust, crispy baked cheese on the sides and poured over tomato sauce after baking....

Stacks Deli

Amsterdam has some of my favourite places. So much so that when in Amsterdam, even if I have to be on the NDSM wharf, I will go all the way to Stack Deli in De Clerqstraat before taking the train...

Baladi

This little Lebanese manouche place is one of my regular go-to places. My favourites are the baked falafel with veggies, cheese&zatar and the hummus wrap. Their fresh lemon juice is addictive and if you still have room, try their Halawa...

Tio Bigotes

Being born and raised in Aruba and having Venezuelan family, I am no stranger to empanadas. Every country in South America has their own version. In Venezuela they use corn flour and fry the empanadas, they are little hot pockets...

By Jarmusch

This time I took a foodie trip to Rotterdam. Even tho I work in Rotterdam and I am there every week. I rarely eat out there except for the takeout lunch sandwiches at Jordy's Bakery and Hopper Coffee. For my...

Brood van Bro

This year, 2024, Brood van Bro opened in Wagenstraat making me pretty happy. It was a nice surprise walking by and seeing this new place. I have been a sourdough bread convert since 2012 thanks to a bakery close to...

Day Dream Deli

Day Dream is a very popular small sandwich and burger shop you can find close to Prinsestraat and Hofkwartier. They sell meat sandwiches and burgers. Day Dream Deli is the only place where you can get authentic meat sandwiches. They...

Perron X Coffee

Perron X Coffee is another coffee place on my go-to list. They serve their own specialty roast and best of all they have a decaf roast. They are open 7 days a week, from early morning till early evening and...

Frenchie’s Burgers

Burgers are back! Thanks to Frenchie's Burgers we can enjoy quality gourmet burgers again. I missed the years when hamburgers were all the rage. But now thanks to Frenchmen Alexandre Martiano and Edouard Gaudin from Villa Coucou, we can enjoy...

Sababa

Sababa can be found in Prinsestraat near the Palace Gardens. They describe their food as "street food from the Middle East". would categorize them as healthy street food. I wouldn't go so far tho to equate it to Middle East...

Kaafi

Kaafi has been around for a couple of years. But with a couple of steady go-to places, I don't go there often. The menu is mostly egg dishes, leaving only 3 non-egg choices. Non the less what they do offer...

FLFL

FLFL can be found in Spuistraat across Ladage. Since they opened I have been there a couple of times, enough to know they are consistently good. They have the most minimalist menu you can get. It's all about falafel, which...

Five Guys

Uncomplicated fastfood hamburger and hotdogs. It’s pretty simple. Hamburger, cheeseburger, bacon burger, hotdog or grilled cheese sandwich. All one price/size each with your choice of toppings. Little fries or big fries, without salt, with salt or with cajun spice. One...
