April 5, 2008

Home alone and bored tonight. So I learned how to use the delay function on the camera and finally took pictures of my Scarlett O'Hara (aka it's made out of curtains) renaissance gown.

I realize now that I probably should have moved the chair with my violin on it and the bike out of the way before I took the pictures. Oh well!

April 3, 2008 (Yes, two posts in two days!)

Why we love Costco:

5 shoulder steaks = $15.10

2 chuck roasts = $12.59

5.15 lbs lean hamburger = $12.82

15 frozen, boneless, skinless chicken breasts = $15.39

Total spent on meat = $55.90

Each of the chicken breasts and shoulder steaks will feed both of us for one meal. I figure we can get two meals each out of both of the chuck roasts. I cooked the hamburger this afternoon and separated it out into 6 quart sized bags for freezing. Each of those will feed both of us for one meal.

That's meat for roughly 50 meals between the two of us (or 25 days worth of meals) for about $1.11 for meat each meal. If you can afford to spend $50 on meat in one trip, it's well worth the savings in the end. The last time we bought a pot roast at the grocery store we paid nearly $10 for just one. Pretty good deal to get a second for only $2 more, and they were both very nicely sized.

We probably won't have to buy meat for at least another month and a half since I don't cook a full meal on the nights that Jamie works. Pretty sweet!

Oh, we also bought a roast chicken (like always) to nibble on. Costco's roast chicken is SO GOOD! We ate some of it yesterday with white rice and Mr. Yoshida's Teryaki sauce. Mmmmmmm. Tasty.

Website update: I added descriptions to the Jewelry page of Stylishly Crafty. The page looked so empty with just photos. I added an update to the Story of Us too.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JAMIE! (a day late)

Yesterday was my dear hubby's birthday. He got cards and cake and presents and homemade dinner!

Image

Here he is wearing his birthday shirt. It says "Adorkable" because he is! And the little dude looks just like him!

Image

Here are his wonderful birthday cards from all the fabulous people he knows.

Image

Here's his birthday booty. Two books from me (the adorkable shirt is from me too) and a new Dale Junior shirt from my mom. Plus tons of $$$$$ that he used to buy these:

An update to the last post on March 22: He did NOT work until 2am. HOORAH! He was home by midnight.

HAPPY EASTER! (I'm actually early this time!)

We haven't been up to much lately. Jamie has worked for the past four nights. Who knew that Easter was just as big as Christmas when it came to sales. The entire team at Target HAD to be at work today, sorta like Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas. He said someone told him that last Easter they didn't get to go home until after 2am. 2. A. M. Eh. If that's the case tonight, then I still have 6 hours until he gets home! At least neither of us work tomorrow. YAY!

We have a new addition to our little household. Unfortunately I don't seem to have a picture of him yet. Hang on... (gets out her camera and goes to work) Ok. Here we go! (Don't you just love digital photography? No waiting!)

This is Harry. He was part of the awesome bouquet Jamie's mom sent me for my birthday and his beautiful pot came from the garden department at Walmart. I'm so glad there were plants in the bouquet! Hopefully we'll be able to keep these guys alive for as along as we've kept Bob the Peace Lily alive. Maybe one day we'll be able to graduate from leafy to furry.

We are anxiously waiting our tax rebate because we already know how we want to spend it. We're ready for a new camera. Both of our little cameras served their purpose, but now we want to take really awesome photos. Jamie's been researching and researching. Just about every time I've seen him at the computer over the past two weeks he's been looking at digital camera sites, reading reviews, doing his own comparisons. Once we get a really nice camera we hope to go on lots of little trips in the area to take pictures. Three places we really want to photograph are the Reynolda Gardens and the NC Zoo. We had lots of fun at the zoo back in November. And, I hope we get the camera before May so we can take it to the All-Star Race in Charlotte. Vroooooooooom! Fast pictures!

Oh! And we're still having much success with our "take our own bags for grocery shopping" thing. It's fun!

March 13, 2008

This past weekend my mom and Aunt Gloria came up to see us. Actually they were here to go to camp, but stopped by our place on Thursday and Sunday. And, they brought PRESENTS!!

We finally finished our Christmas. Mom gave Jamie a new desk chair and a CD holder-binder for his computer games. I got new giraffes and Carl Edwards stuff from Mom and Aunt Gloria and Uncle Joe. My cousin Brandi gave me a little hand-vac and gave Jamie an awesome throw with scenes from Washington on it. My other cousins gave me a ticket to the All Star Race in Charlotte this May and gave Jamie a tool set. We got nifty hurricane globe candle holders from my Aunt Bobbi and Uncle Rusty. Mom also gave us this metal wall hanging (I picked it out last October when they were here for the Charlotte race):

Then she bought us the sconces on either side when we made a trip to Walmart last Thursday.

With Christmas finally past, we can look forward to spring!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME (yesterday)!

Image

Here is the yummy yellow-butter cake with chocolate frosting I made. There are three candles because 27 is divisible by 3 and I didn't have 27 candles. Hehe. And here are the lovely flowers Jamie's mom sent. I hope I can keep the leafy green plants alive for a long time.

Jamie and I went out to eat at Olive Garden on Thursday night. We'd like to report that the Short Ribs with Tortelloni and the Lasagna Rollatini with Chicken were very tasty. We actually want to try the Lasagna Rollatini on our own. Afterwards, we stopped at Starbucks for coffees and chocolatey pastries. Then we watched Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones, which was horrible and I fell asleep over 30 minutes from the end. We watched Star Wars III yesterday and it was much much much better than II.

We're both sick, though Jamie is suffering much more than me. He has a cough that I thankfully do not have and hope not to get. My cold has been teetering on and off for several days. I did have a fever Thursday night and Friday morning, but I don't seem to have it anymore. Today mine seems to be mostly a snotty nose, which I can handle. We've been sleeping with a humidifier on in our room and it seems to be helping our breathing. Hopefully we'll be better by March.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

Cupid brought our part of NC a nice little surprise.

Image

It was very very much a surprise. At around 9:30pm last night I caught a glimpse of the grass in the backyard through the vertical blinds and noticed that it looked funny. I stared at it for a while trying to figure out why the nightlight was shining so brightly on the grass. Then I realized the grass was bright because it was WHITE! By the time I finally looked out, we had a good 1.5 inches.

The snow was especially pretty this morning when I drove to work (new job, yay!) because the sky was brilliantly blue without a single cloud. Sadly, by the time I came home most of the snow had melted. The only bits left where in places where its shady all day long and in big dirty, lumpy snow critters that kids made on their snow-day.

Poor Jamie is sick and at work on Valentine's Day. He was sick this same time last year. As a matter of fact, we spent the evening of my birthday sitting at PrimeCare waiting to see a doctor. He likes February, but February doesn't appear to like him back.

I have started a new job. I'm the new temporary, part-time secretary for the Nursing Department at Forsyth Technical Community College. Nifty! There's a good possibility that I'll be full-time permanent sometime within the next few months. That'd be awesome because I'd be an employee of the State, and State employees get really good benefits.

Last, but not least, YAY!!! Dale Earnhardt, Jr. won the first race of the Gatorade Duel 150s, which is how they set the field for the Daytona 500. It's not a "real" race per se, but he still won the first one, which means he's 2-0 for Nascar Sprint Cup events this year. YAY! I hope he wins the 500 on Sunday!!!!

YAY!!! DALE EARNHARDT, JR WON THE 2008 BUDWEISER SHOOTOUT AT DAYTONA! YAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!

I hope this is a sign of things to come for Junior. I might even be converted to a Junior fan this year. Hehe. Jamie will probably be very disappointed to know that he missed witnessing Junior winning a race because he had to work tonight. Poor guy.
