In October of 2011, I was feeling pretty lonely and down. Moving to a new city is difficult, and while we had found some nice, friendly people, it was still hard at times.

So imagine my complete surprise and excitement to answer our front door one evening and see my mom standing there! John and my mom planned the trip without me knowing, which is pretty impressive, since both John and my mom are both known for accidentally telling secrets! (Plus, some of my sissies are known for talking, as well.)

We had such a fun time while she was here. The fall leaves were just changing colors, so my mom loved walking around and taking pictures. And we took so many pictures. Also, this post has taken me OVER TWO HOURS to get the pictures posted. I’m about to scream!!! But hopefully this works:

Rhys loved the train at the Lincoln Park zoo, despite the kid screaming for his mom in the car behind him.

In front of the giraffe area. Rhys didn’t actually care about the animals much.

Rhys and his Grammy. So cute!

See? We took lots of pictures!

We had a good time at the zoo.

Grammy’s first time on the El train!

Rhys and Grammy playing in the leaves.

We saw so many beautiful fall colors while she was here.

Rhys wouldn’t pose with anyone, so we have lots of “family” pictures without him.

Having more fun in the leaves!

Finally, a picture that Rhys was willing to pose for.

No visit is complete without a trip downtown to see the bean.

This picture is funny because just when Grammy snapped the picture, a bunch of birds flew at us. So our faces are pretty funny. If you click on the picture, you can see the birds reflected in the bean.

We loved having Grammy Jo visit and hope she gets to come back soon!

Rhys has come so far since he started school last year. I’m so proud of all the progress he’s made.

Today, Rhys and I worked on some fine motor skill projects. I had him draw ‘mat man.’ I helped him write his name (backwards, of course), and then prompted him to draw all the body parts of mat man. He drew this all by himself! I was so impressed.

Another catch-up post! We were so excited to have Gram visit us for Thanksgiving in Georgia in 2010. It’s nice to be with family for holidays. We don’t have any pictures of our Thanksgiving feast for some reason, but we do have some fun pictures of one of our favorite parks in Athens.

Image
Rhys fell at the parking lot almost as soon as we got there and got road rash on his nose. 😦

Image

But he felt a lot better as soon as he could play at the playground.

John must have just shaved his beard off!

It was really nice to have Gram around for a few days. We’re really glad she got to come.
