Layne is 6 Months!

I can't believe my last baby (unless God has a miracle planned for us) is 6 months old!  It has both flown by and crawled at the same time, if that makes sense.  As much as I love a new, cuddly baby, I'm excited to be at this stage with Layne where he interacts with us, giggles and explores.  He is such a sweet baby with a hint of feisty which he expresses through grunts right now.  Up until this point, I haven't seen a difference between my girls and Layne, but I know the adventures of having a boy are just around the corner.  I'm excited to add cars, superheroes, and legos to our toy box!

At 6 months, Layne:
-weighs 17lbs.5oz. (46%)
-measures 27.5" (I want to measure him again bc that is only 1/4" in 2 months. Dr. said he may be about to have a growth spurt so that could be it too.)
-is rolling all over the place now.  Just in the last few weeks he really started holding his head up well.  Then, he took off rolling everywhere.  I think we're still at least a couple months away from crawling (hopefully.)
-has transitioned out of a swaddle,  but he's still not the best sleeper.  Some nights he does pretty well, sleeping at least 5 hour stretches, but I would say, most nights he is still waking up every 3-4 hours. :/  The third night of not being swaddled he slept 8 hours straight, and I thought that was the start of a new pattern.  Not so much.  Grandparents read no further: I think he's going to have to have some tough love soon.
-got his two bottom teeth this month!
-can sit up for a bit while holding himself up like a tripod.
-has tried a couple of foods but not with great success.  He liked processed fresh banana the best but has also tried sweet potatoes, applesauce and carrots.
-still has 1 blocked tear duct and will most likely have to get it probed like Macie did.  It was a quick process with her and help clear it up almost right away.

Sometimes it's hard to enjoy the day to day with 3 kids 4 and under, but I know we are truly blessed with beautiful, healthy children.  I cherish the gift God has given Charlie and me.  Layne is the perfect addition to our family and now we feel complete!

Hair Cuts

Both girls got their first "professional" hair cut this week. Grandma has cut Callie's a couple times and Macie's once, but they had never sat in a chair and had someone else cut it. I was a little nervous Macie would be over it half way through and not want to finish, but she did great, as did Callie!

Ranch Weekend

About a month ago, Chuck came down for a weekend and Tom came up from Victoria to stay at the ranch and also to help Paw Paw Jim with moving and cleaning out so we packed up the whole fam and headed to the ranch!  We had a nice, relaxing weekend with beautiful weather. We are so grateful for the ranch getaways and that Mike and Susan always welcome us!

Lookin' too cool on the way to the ranch!

Layne is 4 Months

Layne was 4 months old on April 23rd.  I can't believe next week he will be 5 months!  Despite the sleep deprivation and the trying moments, time is flying by!
Image
He looks so big just chillin'.

I could eat him up!

Image

At 4 months, Layne:
-is 15lbs. 7oz. (48%)
-is 2'3.25" tall. (99%)
-likes his jumparoo and will stay in there for about 20 or 30 minutes sometimes.  It really helps while I'm cooking or trying to get things done around the house!
-is very content to lay on the floor for a while with a toy to stick in his mouth, but we have started to be careful about how much back time he gets because his head is a little flat in the back.  We are hoping by keeping him off his back we can avoid getting a DOC band for him.  He isn't that fond of tummy time for a long period of time because his precious big noggin is hard for him to hold up!  We keep him upright by holding him, the bumbo chair and the jumparoo mostly, but still try to give him tummy time to strengthen his muscles. Life is hard at 4 months old! ;)
-has regressed in the sleeping department.  I have no idea what is going on with him right now, but it needs to stop! ;)  He has been waking up every 2-3 hours for the last week  or so.  It makes for one tired mama the next day.  PTL for coffee!  I'm thinking it might be a good time to transition him to a sleep sack since he's not sleeping well swaddled anyway.  The only thing that is keeping me from doing it is that I don't think he'll be able to keep his paci in.  He always like to play with it and can't get it back in his mouth.  I might get brave and just try it!  I'm always hesitant to make changes like that, but they usually are no big deal so we'll see!
-eats every 3-4 hours during the day and is on a Eat, Play, Sleep routine.
-is rolling from tummy to back well and has rolled back to tummy a couple of times.
-is very ticklish and laughs the most precious laugh.  He is just a happy baby all around.  He has even started laughing by things that I say to him which is even better than me tickling him.  one thing that always gets him is when I say "I. Love. You. Sosososososo much!"

Q&A with Callie at 4

I thought it would be neat to ask my kids the same questions every year around their birthdays and see what changes and what stays the same.
Callie at age 4:
1.) What's your favorite color? Pink
2.) What's your favorite toy? Little Cinderella figurine
3.) What's your favorite fruit? Strawberries & pineapples
4.) What's your favorite show? Doc McStuffins & Jake and the Neverland Pirates (really its Barefoot Contessa though)
5.) What's your favorite thing to eat for lunch? Chicken nuggets & french fries
6.) What's your favorite thing to wear? Fancy "Dancy" dress (a pink and black outfit with a tutu that she got for birthday from my parents)
7.) What's your favorite game? Hide n seek
8.) What's your favorite snack? Goldfish
9.) What's your favorite animal? Lion
10.) What's your favorite song? Jesus Loves Me/Twinkle Twinkle
11.) What's your favorite book? Fancy "Dancy" ones
12.) Who is your best friend? Natalee/Brayden
13.) What's your favorite cereal? Frosted Mini Wheats
14.) What's your favorite thing to play outside? Hide n seek with Daddy and Macie
15.) What's your favorite drink? Orange juice & milk
16.) What's your favorite holiday? Halloween
17.) What do you take to bed with you? My baby
18.) What's your favorite thing to eat for breakfast? Kashi
19.) What's your favorite thing to eat for dinner? Mac n cheese
20.) What do you want to be when you grow up? Princess

Callie's Stats from her 4 year check up:
Weight: 35lbs. 4oz.  (52%)
Height: 3ft. 6.5in. (94%)
BMI: 13.7 (5%)

Another thing I'd like to remember about Callie at age 4 is how silly she is sometimes.  She picks up on sayings from commercials and will randomly say them like when she is talking to Layne she will say, "Baby, state farm is there," and "Avocados from Mexico."  Silly girl!

I Scream, You Scream,...

Callie turned 4 on April 7th!  We celebrated the day before with an ice cream themed party.  It was a fun, relatively calm 4 year old birthday party, and most importantly the birthday girl felt special and had a blast celebrating with her family and friends!

I made ice cream cone cupcakes.  I had never made them before so I was a little
concerned making them the morning of the party, but they turns out great!

The kids got to add sprinkles, mini m&ms, gummy bears and chocolate syrup to make their sundaes.

Unfortunately, I had the nozzle open when pouring in the lemonade and didn't notice the lemonade  leaking into the sink. Woops.  Luckily, one of my friends forgot to get a present and brought juiceboxes. Ha!

Great one of my girls!

We were glad to have Grandpa and Grandma for the party.
Of course they were a huge help!

A couple weeks after her birthday party, Callie said, "My favorite part of my party was when everyone sang to me.  It was special!"  So sweet!

I found the cutest ice cream piñata at Hobby Lobby, and I just had to get it.
Not that the kids needed an ounce more of sugar!
