Our Big Girl at 18 Months
(A blood vessel burst in between her eyes, leaving a bruise-like mark.)
This is the face she makes when she says, "No."
She sticks her pretty little lips out as far as they can go.
In our 2 minute photo session, she wouldn't sit still. No surprise there!
My little long limbed climber!
Where to begin?! I feel like Callie has changed so much since my last update at 15 months. I cannot believe she has been in our lives for a year and a half. It has been amazing seeing how she grows and develops her little personality. She is a very sweet, mild-tempered toddler, most of the time. She has her moments of little, short tantrums, but for the most part, I would say I have lucked out. I'm hoping this lasts even after Macie is here, and she has to share me. She is definitely a Momma's girl. She loves other people, but she wants to know where I am most of the time. She is a big snuggler which I love. She loves to curl up in my lap (or anyone else that is willing) with her thumb in her mouth and holding her Baby by the pigtails. She particularly likes doing this while she is watching her favorite show, "Bwhy?" (Super Why).
She has changed so much, I'm sure I'm going to leave things out, but here's my attempt to document her life at 18 months.
At 18 months, Callie:
-weighs 23.5 lbs. (50th %) and measures 33.5 in (90th %)
-has at least 12 teeth, 8 in front and at least 4 in back. (I'm too nervous to stick my bare finger in the back!)
-is taking 1 1.5-3 hour nap per day. It's been at least a couple months since she's taken two a day. I have to say that it is actually kind of nice because we can do things in the morning then she'll nap in the early afternoon. Of course, our schedule will change again in a few months when little sister arrives!
-does what I ask most of the time without throwing a fit.
-has the funniest cackle when she laughs sometimes. All I can say about it is it's a good thing she's cute if her cackle lasts into teenage/adult years. haha! It cracks me up everytime!
-loves to say, "Oh, man!", "Oh, nooo!", and "Oh, wow!" The other day we were hanging out in her room, and she had pulled off all the books and stuffed animals from the bottom two shelves of the bookcase. A few minutes later, she looked over at it and said, "Oh, nooo! Mess!" I had never heard her say "mess" before so I asked, "Did you make a mess?" She said, "Tay." (She usually says "tay" (okay) instead of saying "yes" these days.)
-likes her hands to be clean while she is eating. If they get too dirty, she holds out her hands and says, "Hans. Hans," meaning she wants them to be cleaned.
-now wants to eat with a fork or a spoon. She calls them both "moon." I am working on distinguishing the two, but she persistently calls them both "moon."
-loves animals and knows many of their names and sounds. She sure didn't get this from me! I'm interested to see if this love for animals lasts beyond toddlerhood. I'm going to try really hard to let her embrace it and not press my opinion on her. :)
-loves loves loves books! I'm very happy about this and hope it continues as she gets older.
-still loves her Baby. She now has three babies, two identical and one different that still has the pigtails for her to hold on to. She definitely knows the "original" baby and prefers her if more than one is around. I really wish I would have videoed when she got her Baby's twin. She just lit up and said, "Oh, wow! Two babies!" ( I taught her "two babies" when she got her other baby.)
-has no idea her world is about to be rocked. When I talk about the baby in mommy's belly, she is unphased. She does say "Mamie" for Macie and says, "Tay" when I ask if she wants to be a big sister. :) We'll see in a few months! I know she is going to be a great big sister after she gets used to having to share attention. She is very sweet around other babies so hopefully she will be with her sister too!
-is talking so much. I started a list a few weeks ago to help me remember all she is saying at 18 months, but after filling up 2 columns on one side and half the backside, I stopped. It seems she learns a new word every other day. She understands almost everything we tell her, and usually can respond using words. Most of her talking is one word phrases, but she does have some two word phrases that she uses. The following list will probably be of little interest to most of you, but this is my record of her life so I want to document her most common words.
*Baby *Two babies *Mama *Dada *Paw Paw (Grandpa J. & Paw Paw S.) *Mamma (Grandma J.) *Grammy (Mammie) *Papa *eye *nigh-night *knee *nose *cheek (chick) *hands (hans) *ow *hot *cold (told) *hi *hello *tay (okay) *poopoo/poopy (dirty diaper) *no *yes *bye-bye (dye-dye) *please (pease) *thank you (tittoo) *Bwhy (Super Why) *uh-oh *bath (bah) *milk (mill) *mo mill (more milk) *water (latter) *beebo (belly button) *eat (eee) *oatmeal (omeal) *Elmo (Ehmo) *Cheerio's (o's) *Oh nooo! *bug (buh) *towel *egg *Oh man! *Oh wow! *bubble *heavy (hebby) *yumm *yuck *cow (tow) *cat (tat) *puppy *deer *more (mo) *help (hap) *bow *hair *banana (nanna) *color (tudder) *draw (doe) *spoon (moon) *moon *up *keys (teys) *shoes *socks (hocks) *phone (hone) *medicine (meen) *happy *cry (ty) *animals (anmals) *don't know (no know)
I'm sure I'm leaving some out, but this is the majority of her vocabulary at this point. She will repeat many other words when asked. She amazes me all the time. I know I'm bias, but I have to say she's definitely a genius! :) Just kidding, but she is a smart little cookie!
It's crazy to think that when I do my next update for Callie, she will be a big sister! She has been such a huge blessing in our family, and I am so thankful for her! I can't wait for her Daddy to get home to see all the changes that have happened while he was gone. We have really enjoyed living with Grandpa and Grandma Johnson and also having the opportunity to see more family. "Pawpaw and Mamma" J and also family we have visited in Houston/Huntsville have been a HUGE help to me and have made this deployment so much easier than it would have been. There is not a lack of love for Callie from family and friends, and I am so grateful. We miss Daddy more than he'll ever know, but I know it is a comfort to him to know that his girls are being taken care of. I love giving Charlie updates on how Callie is changing and the funny things she is doing. I'm very excited to say that he will be home before Callie's next update, too!
We love her so much and love the little girl that she is becoming!
