Callie has been saying a lot of funny things lately, and I need to write them down before I forget them all. I just love this age and all the fun things that come with it. Callie has been talking SO much more in the last month or so. My mom was just here last week and had been here a couple weeks before, and she said that Callie was talking more and that she could understand her a lot better just in those two weeks.
It is amazing what a little recorder she is. What she says and how she says it is a little clone of me! Thank goodness I don’t have a cursing problem! Anyway, on to the funny stories…
-While my parents were here a few weeks ago, she must have heard our names a lot more than usual because by the end of the weekend, she was calling me, Charlie and my dad by our first names. It did not stop when they left, and she will call me “Mommy” in one sentence, then start calling me “Kassey” in the next. The best story that goes along with this is one day Charlie walked in from work and Callie was playing in the living room. She looked up from her toys and said, “Oh hi, Charlie!” then went right back to what she was doing.
-Yesterday, we pulled into our neighborhood, and Callie was looking at every house on the street, saying “Is that my house? No! Is that my house? No!…” When she saw our house, she said, “Is that my house? YES!” It was precious!
-We were not planning on calling Macie “Macie Jane” on a regular basis when we named her, but I guess we called her that enough because that is what Callie calls her most of the time. The other day she picked up on another silly nickname I have given her. I call Callie Dianne “Dianna Banana” sometimes so it was only appropriate for me to call Macie “Janey Banany.” Yesterday when we got Macie up from her nap, Callie said, “Hi, Banany Janey!” I loved it!
-Several times when I have gone in Callie’s room to get her up in the morning or after naptime, she says, “Oh, hi, Mommy!” like I have interupted her and my presence was totally unexpected.
-The other day I asked Callie to do something and after she did it, she said, “Mommy, say, ‘Thank you, Callie!’” I am so proud of my girl’s manners. Most of the time, she says “please” and “thank you” without being prompted.
-Today I had Macie on my lap and she was jerking her arms around like 5 month olds do. She kept hitting my leg, and Callie saw this and started popping her own leg and saying, “Stop it! Stop it!” Hmmm, wonder where she learned that?
-This last story melts me. One of her favorite things to do is put her babies to bed. She follows the same routine that we use to put her to bed, including singing a song. I always sing “Jesus Loves Me” and “Lullaby”, but Grandma Johnson will be happy to know that she chooses to sing the song that she always sings to her, “Jesus, There’s Something about That Name.” I caught it on video just this afternoon so you get to see how sweet it is (after naptime, thus the pjs and crazy hair).
She makes us laugh and smile all the time. I know some of these stories might be “you had to be there” stories, but this post is mostly for us to be able to look back in 10, 20, 30 years and have a good laugh and to remember just how precious our little Callie Dianne was!
