Layne is 1 Month!

Layne is 1 month today!  Surviving the first month with 3 kids under 4 was not as hard as I thought it would be.  I give most of the credit to my sweet kids who have made it pretty easy to transition and of course, Charlie, who is one amazing dad and husband!  The girls play so well together most of the time, and Layne has been so laid back.  Sometimes I feel like we only need about 3 square feet in our living room because they're all on top of me though! :)  I have to admit I have had to pray for patience quite a few times, but I really have had it relatively easy considering the circumstances!
Since I just did a 3 week update for Layne and not much has changed (which I meant to do at 2 weeks), I am just going to post some pictures.

And this is all I could get since the Big Sisters were in the room! :)

Macie is 2!

On December 29th, in the middle of all the birthday, Christmas, Layne's birth craziness, Macie turned 2!  We celebrated at Thanksgiving with a Dora party because I knew her actual birthday was going to be crazy and overshadowed.  Little did I know that Layne would be born only 6 days before!  This chaotic time of year got even crazier this year.  In the 12 days between Layne's birthday on the 23rd and my birthday on January 4th, we celebrate Charlie's birthday, Christmas, Macie's birthday and New Year's. Whoa. I'm going to have to figure out some sort of system!  Anyway, back to Macie's day...
I call Macie my little firecracker.  She is a very sweet, loving girl that likes her independence.  She is very entertaining and makes me laugh all the time!  She has many dramatic facial expressions and also cracks me up with what she says.  There is no way to cover who Macie is in a blog, but I'll give the highlights.

At 2, Macie:
-is 3ft 1/4in (97%) and 26lbs. (38%).  Weight for stature she is in about the 10th percentile.  Long and lean!
-talks all the time, and there really isn't anything that she can't say or at least attempt to say.  She talks in full sentences and has been for a while.  I definitely can understand almost everything she says, and other people can understand most.
-does great at school and always says she has fun.  She goes to a MDO program on T/Th from 9:30-1:30.
-has adjusted really well to having a little brother around.  She has had her moments of not wanting to share mommy but is easily distracted and overall has just accepted it.
-sings "Jesus Loves Me," "Twinkle Twinkle," and "Praise Him, Praise Him" and other songs that strike her fancy!
-loves reading books, playing outside, Dora the Explorer, and playing with babydolls and lego blocks.
-loves her baby and her paci.  I'm not sure how it's going to go when we decide to lose the paci. :/
decided a couple weeks ago to start crawling out of her bed so we made the change to a toddler bed.  I was really worried about how that was going to go, but she shocked us with not getting out of her bed at all!  She has been doing great!
-plays so well with Callie and misses her when she's not around.  She can play by herself pretty well but definitely likes having her sister around!
-is a pretty good eater.  She loves OJ and chugs it just like Callie does.  I'm curious if it is a learned thing from Callie or genetic. :)  I guess we'll have to wait and see what Layne does!  She prefers meat over bread at almost every meal.
-uses her manners most of the time, saying "please," "thank you," and "you're welcome."
-says "I love you" unprompted.  It melts my heart every time!
- is very independent.  She can "do it myself" almost all the time. :)  If we help her with something, she will put it back where it was so she can do it without help.

I love her kind heart that has a little spunk!  I cannot wait to see who she becomes as she grows!

On her birthday, Grammy and Pappa came to celebrate with her and also to celebrate Christmas with us all.

Grandma went to get a cake for Macie and asked what kind I thought she'd like.  I said I wasn't sure because she more of a meat girl than bread and sweets.  We settled on a cookie cake, but of course wasn't satisfied with that.  She bought Macie some Slim Jims :) and sure enough she licked the icing off the cookie cake and ate 2 Slim Jims!

3 Weeks Old

Layne was 3 weeks old Sunday!  Sometimes it seems like he was born yesterday and others, 3 months ago!  We have loved having our sweet, laid back boy around.  He is very calm and only cries when he needs something.  He is easily consoled and is just too sweet!  I hope it lasts!!
Last Friday, the 4th (happy birthday to me!), I took Layne to his 2 week check up.  As suspected, he was perfect! ;)  Other than being a little jaundice, he was doing great!  He was 9lbs. 14oz. and 22 3/4 inches, which is about 98-100%.  Not surprising!

At 3 weeks, Layne:
-is eating every 2 to 3 hours during the day and mostly every 3 to 4 hours at night.  He has slept 6 hours straight several nights though which has been amazing!!
-has been sleeping in his swing and has only slept in his bed a few times.  I know I need to work on that, but when he sleeps 6 hours in the swing, it detours me from trying. :/
-seems to like the Nuk pacifier but gags on it when he doesn't want it.
-is very content when he is awake and likes to look around with his big blue eyes.
-is very loved by his big sisters!!  Callie has been so sweet and helpful.  She loves to talk to Layne, saying things like, "Layne, you're so healthy and strong!" and "You're so cute and fluffy.  Aren't you, Layne?"  Macie has been really good with him for the most part.  She tells Layne she loves him and gives him kisses on the head, but she has had a few moments of not wanting to share Mommy.  Thankfully, she does not take it out on Layne!
-has a mild case of baby acne. :(
-has been to the movies with Mom and Grandma, shopping, to the park and out to a few restaurants.

He is so loved by Daddy, Mommy and his big sisters!  We can't wait to watch him grow!

Christmas 2012

It was definitely a different Christmas this year!  I would have never guessed that we would have a 2 day old, considering my history of due date babies.  We did though and I think we made the best of it!  Layne was by far the best gift we got!!

I snapped a few pictures of the girls in front of the tree on a Sunday morning before church.

The sand table was a hit.

Callie had only been able to ride her bike once so far between the weather and a new baby, but she will learn soon enough!

Grammy brought the girls 2 new, beautiful dresses!

Grandma Susie and Paw Paw brought their gifts on Christmas day when they came to meet Layne, including Callie's first Barbie.  Grandma Susie was thrilled to get to buy it for her!
