How I’m Feeling

In bullet formation:

  • Lost.  Lyz is hurting so bad over Baylee leaving and I have no idea how to help her.  Her and Jenn left this morning for a tournament in Maryland and Jenn said her number one goal is to make sure Lyz has a blast.  Number two goal may be to get Lyz really drunk.  Maybe.
  • Sad.  Baylee going to heaven makes me fear what will happen when Minne goes to heaven.  She is no young pup.  She turned 13 in June.  She’s is quite close to blind, and has much difficulty going up and down the stairs.  But she is still happy and wags her tail and eats like a horse.  A few years ago Minne got sick and I remember thinking “As long as we have a baby before Minne goes, we’ll be alright.”  Not looking like that is going to happen.
  • Angry.  And what I’m angry about is unbloggable, not even in a password protected blog, that is just how bad it is.
  • Confused.  How can unbloggable not be a word?
  • Cranky.  I’ve been at work for 7 hours and still have 4-5 hours to go.  Silly people choosing to get married when my boss is out of town!!  How dare they?
  • Slightly lonely.  While I’m complaining above about being stuck at work, I don’t really want to go home.  There is no Jenn there.  In the 13+ years we have lived together we have spent less that 7 nights apart.  No me no like.
  • Happy.  Because Jenn got to go away and do something for herself that she enjoys!!  She has spent all of her free time planning this down to the last itty bitty detail and driving her teammates nuts!!  She may have even sent them an email reminding them to pack socks.  I ❤ my little ocd’er.

Anywho.  That’s where I’ve been and where I’m at.  Until I can cool down a little from the anger part, I’ve been away from the blog.  I plan on heading home tonight and finding a cool flamingo in the basement so at least I’ll have a mingo monday post!!

xxoo

P.S.  I’m thinking about Estee and her family, maybe you could send some good thoughts her way too?  Her Nan (Grandmother) is not doing very well, and they believe she will be heading for heaven soon.  Estee and I grew up together (aka, I used to babysit her and her siblings) and our mothers are best friends.  She was one of the very first people to ever start following my blog.  I even wrote about her once upon a time!

Our Visitors-A Review

Since we are leaving this place that we have lived for 6 years, and with the visitor from yesterday, Mr. Bat, I thought we would review the different animals that have been in our house over the years.

First there was Fanny the Frog
Image
Minne and Igan thought the frog was very interesting.

Then there was Millie the Mouse:
Image
Image
Igan spent a half hour chasing this mouse around the house until Jenn could catch it and set it free outside.

We can’t forget Jack the Snake. Yes, he wasn’t found in our house, but we did take him there for a visit:

Who can forget the Spring and Autumn visitors? I’ve made the picture very tiny, so that I don’t freak anyone out.

And finally Bertie the Bat:

Let’s hope our new home is just as fun, preferably with fewer creature visitors.

Mingo Monday 12/7/09

Look at this cute flamingo…could there be anything cuter??
Image
What about a pair of cute flamingos????
Image
And why would you need a pair of really cute flamingos???? Well to wear them on your feet of course 🙂
Image

I got them at Old Navy on the day after Wednesday for only $10.00!!! People thought I was insane. Jenn walked right past the rack holding them and I let out a huge gasp followed by “HOW COULD YOU WALK RIGHT BY THOSE????” They were in the kids department and Jenn said “Like they are going to have any for your huge boats.” Well they did!!!! And boy are they comfy!! I LOVE them!!

Minne thinks they are awesome too. Awesome for her to chew on!
Image
She ripped them right off my feet!

Welcome to the cookie factory

Hi! My name is Heidi and this is my kitchen:
Image
(please just pretend I am wearing a bra)

We are going to make mystery cookies. Here is the recipe:
Mystery Cookies……

1/2 cup butter, melted
3-1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 can condensed tomato soup
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. nutmeg (or freshly ground, 1 tsp)
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. salt
2 cups raisins
2 cups chopped walnuts
4-1/2 cups flour

Mix melted butter and sugar until combined well.

Mix in the eggs.

Add tomato soup and mix well. Stir in the cinnamon, nutmeg, baking soda, and salt. Then add the raisins and walnuts. Stir.

Mix in flour in one cup increments.

Let the dough sit for 15 minutes. Drop the dough by teaspoon onto greased cookie sheets.

Bake at 350°F for 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown on top. Let cookies cool on sheet for 1-2 minutes, but not longer or you’ll never get them off. Transfer to wire rack to cool completely.

Okay, so the story behind these cookies is that I used to absolutley hate tomato soup. With a passion. Gag. I hated anything tomato, except ketchup and spaghetti sauce. I used to whine that I was allergic to them. (In all honesty I do develop a rash when dealing with raw tomatoes, so it’s not that big of a lie.) So….one day we went over to my Grandma’s (mom’s mom) house and she had just finished making a batch of cookies…did I want to try one?

Here’s Grandma:

Image
Anywho…I try the cookies. Are they yummy? She asked. Yeppers they were delicious. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! You just ate tomato soup! She was a wonderful trickster. Always up for a prank on someone. I remember one April Fools day me and my friend Amy had spent the night before at her house and decided to trick her with playdough pancakes and bacon. My darling Grandma ate a few bites and pretended not to get our joke!

Anywho…back to our cookie trial last night. We had too much fun. We really like baking together, maybe we’re odd.
Image
Jenn thought the batter first looked like mashed potatoes, or urine snow.
I have to show off my beautiful flamingo pink mixer…Thanks Mom and Dad

Proof that we put the tomato soup in the dough:

Jenn even bought me new cookie sheets for the special occasion!

Minne even enjoyed the taste testing:

Ready to go in the oven:

Jenn swiped one before they were even cooled!

I will be honest and say that I think they taste awful. They aren’t as awesome as my memory was remembering them. Jenn on the other hand thought they tasted totally awesome. Either way, they made it into the finals. It doesn’t matter if I win or lose, it matters that I’m playing the game.

Mingo Monday

For today’s episode of Mingo Monday I present to you Minne’s very own collection of Flamingos!!

Image
Now I swear she owns more than four flamingos. I just couldn’t seem to find them all. She must have hidden them somewhere upstairs.

Minne has an obsession with destuffing things. You will notice that the flamingo in the lower left has a hole in its stomach where Minne was so kind as to relieve her from her bloat.

What can I say, I have a problem. Whenever we are at the pet store and I see a flamingo I get all excited and Minne gets a new present.

At least she likes them too!

All Praise the Furminator

We have in our house what we call “Tufting Season”. It happens early spring and late fall every year. The dog stands up, and 15 cotton balls fall off her butt. This year we broke down and bought a Furminator.

Holy cow. That thing works miracles. Let me prove it:

Here is Jenn working the Furminator’s magic on Minne–Minne even appears to be enjoying it:

Image

Here is what is left behind in the Furminators wake (note the small pile of cat hair on top)

For comparisons sake-Minne and the Pile:

Maybe we will no longer have to devote a third of our paychecks to the lint roller fund!

Further Proof that I am odd.

In case my Air-Freshener ponytail holder wasn’t proof enough for you.

I like to make up songs. Sometimes my songs are just real songs with the words changed to fit my mood, sometimes is just songs to real songs music.

The other day I was singing to Minne. It was very very cold in our house and she had buried her head under the couch blanket. And…she was in a super barky mood.

So I sang (to what I believe to be “la cucaracha”):

My name is Minne, I like to barka.
Like to barka to the beat.
My name is Minne, I wear a parka.
‘Cause my mommies don’t use the heat.
(cha cha cha)

Someone was jealous of Jenn and I going to the doctor.

So Thursday night Jenn says aloud to the house “Bedtime”. This means that Minnesota (our dog, aka Minne pronounced Mini) and Michigan (our cat aka Igan–pronounced Eeegan) must run around and chase each other because they have to expel their extra energy. The go flying into the dining room and we hear a loud yelp from Minne who comes racing back into the living room on three legs. Now this isn’t uncommon. She is part German Shepard and will quite often pop out her knee or her hip.

But when we started to rub her down it didn’t appear that either was out of place. Minne is the kind of dog who will only yelp once, and would not even flinch if we were to cut her toes off one by one. Loyalty I guess? So we decide to wait over night and see how she is doing in the morning.

Friday morning she is still being a three legged dog. Call the vet and get an appointment. Take her in and he begins to pinch, poke and prod every inch of her leg. No flinching, no yelping, no nothing. He determines that nothing is broken, his diagnosis is a torn ACL.

If it is only torn partially, it should heal itself in a few weeks. If it is a total tear, she would need surgery to repair it. This cannot be a total tear. She’s old and I can’t have her going through six months of miserable recovery that will only wear out her other hip and leg. He gave her a cortisone shot and some anti-inflammatory pills and sent us home with instructions of no stairs while unassisted.

She already seems to be doing much better. She will put some pressure on her leg, like just putting her toes down. And yesterday she was following us around the house, where as Friday she just whined huge fits if you left the room. So we have our fingers crossed that she recovers on her own. She has to, the surgery will only do her more harm, and neither of us want to put her through surgery, or a lifetime of pain, that isn’t fair to her. But we don’t want to make the other decision either.
