These were each knit by me to fit my daughter's super chubby thighs. They are loose at the thighs and would probably gape on a thinner child, but worked really well for DD. They are all lovely and thick and soft and worked very well overnight. All pure thick wool.
All 3 have a few marks on them which I can't get out. I have taken photos of the marks on the pink/blue/green stripe as it has the most marks. Here is a photo of
DD wearing the pink striped one when she was nearly 1.

Longies - Pink and Brown - $10

These are perfect for wearing to playgroup. Very, very cute, and will draw lots of comments, but already a little grubby so you won't have to worry about them getting dirty LOL! The pink is the most stunning soft yarn - 10 ply, 70% merino 30% mohair. The brown yarn is country silk. They were knit by me, so may not be 'perfect' but are pretty darn cute. Knit for wearing over a cloth nappy, and work superbly. Have been sitting in a bag for a while so probably need lanolising before wearing. Rise is 21cm at the front and 25cm at the back. Inside leg is 21cm long.Thigh measures 33cm circumference measured just below the crotch.Waist measures 40cm unstretched. There is a very small hole in them which you can see in one of the pictures - it is on the side of the right leg. It was there for a while when DD was still wearing them and doesn't seem to be inclined to run any further - I think it has slightly felted which is stopping it from getting any bigger. You could fix it very easily. You can see pictures of my daughter wearing them

These are size 2 to 3. They were knitted by me to fit my daughter at the time, in the pictures of her she is nearly 3 and getting slightly too smal
l, but she is a tall child. They were NOT knitted to fit over a cloth nappy, but just to be funky pants so may not be long enough in the rise to cover a cloth nappy. The rise is 18cm at the front, 20cm at the back. Inside leg measures 35cm long. The circumference of the leg, measured just below the crotch, is 25cm. They are absolutely gorgeous pure italian wool, and very, very soft. Please note, I knitted these for my own daughter's use, so please don't expect 'perfect' knitting, but overall they are well made and very cute.

Turning Japanese

Holidays - yay, time to sew. Last year was madness - for most of it I was working 3 1/2 days a week and studying full time to try and finish off this degree. So I didn't get much time for sewing, but hopefully that will be different this year. I said that last year but maybe it will be true this time.
I wanted to use up this fabric before Snugglebunny gets too old for cute prints. Simplicity 2677 is perfect as it looks vaguely Japanese with the crossover bodice. The pattern wasn't hard, but needed a lot of attention to detail to get a nice finish. I do hate zips, I never seem to manage a perfect finish, but it's good enough.
And look, here was the first thing I made from this fabric - baby snugglebunny!

Party time

Last weekend we decided to kill two birds with one stone and have Tigerboy's 8th birthday party and Snugglebunny's 4th birthday party all in one day.Image
Hers was in the morning and his was at 3pm.

Glamourpuss and I spent the week cooking up a storm and making things like little Gingerbread men to give as party favours.ImageImage I borrowed a big parachute from the toy library for the kids to play with, and both 4 year olds and 8 year olds had lots of fun with it.ImageImage Glamourpuss did face painting for the little ones, and a friend of hers came and painted nails.Image

They played pass the parcel and what's the time Mr wolf?

For the little ones' party we had lots of little patty cakes - pink ones with white hearts on them, tiny flower marshmallow cakes, colour iced ones with Tinkerbell decals, and fairy bread cut out in the shape of a heart.
They had a big punch bowl with apple and blackcurrant juice and lemonade punch in it, and elegant pink glasses to drink from (we only had one spill!) ImageSnugglebunny's cake was a mermaid reclining on a rock - made from an op-shopped Bratz dolly on top of a couple of layered cakes.Image The children took home gingerbread men, an animal balloon, a little flask of bubble mixture and a candy bracelet watch.Image
The rowdy 8 year olds in the afternoon were a shock to the system after the delightful 4 and 5 year olds, but we kept them busy with things like the chocolate eating game, musical newspapers, and the parachute. Their food was movie themed - little containers of popcorn popped in my air-popper (health quotient negated with lots of butter and salt) with ribbons tied around them.Image

ImageMini hotdogs made from cheerio sausages in little buffet rolls, cans of creaming soda and lemonade, lollies, and ice cream cones with choctops (ice magic) or fizzy rocks on top.Image

The birthday cake which Tigerboy asked for was a Mario cake, which I had a lot of fun making.Image ImageThe kids took home gingerbread men, popcorn, a balloon if they wanted one, and glow sticks.Happy Birthday to my lovely Tigerboy and Snugglebunny!!

Seraphina the Mermaid

This project started when I bought some beautiful yarn, but when I tried to knit with it, Imageit was too rough on the hands. I decided (as you do!) that it would make good mermaid hair, and designed this little mermaid to wear the yarn.Image I got as far as making the body, then the project stalled, and has sat, armless and hairless, on the shelf for two whole years!Image Finally, glamourpuss took charge, and bullied me (coaxed me?) into finishing it off this afternoon, and has now named her Seraphina and taken possession of her. ImageGlamourpuss also designed the bikini, stuffed the arms, and knotted some of the hair strands.Image

Cheap, cheap, cheap

The $2 dress - Imagemade out of a dress I bought from a recycled clothing shop, which was actually brand new with tags,Image but had a ripped seam. It is Ottobre 3/2008, #12, with the back changed into a yoked style, so as to let me take advantage of the skirt part of the original dress being already hemmed and attach it in one piece.ImageImage The ties from the original dress make good hairbands. The plan is that it will look good with a black skivvy and leggings worn underneath in winter.Image

A little striped top I made a few weeks ago out of leftovers from the surf-top of a year ago.
Image ImageI have yet to manage a keyhole fastening that isn't too bulky once the button is put on, so I don't think I will try it again, my machine isn't up to it. Much easier just to make the head opening big and stretchy enough not to need a button at the back.

I hate hats

I really do hate making hats, yet for some reason I keep making them. As you can see this hat is made from the leftovers of the dress from a couple of posts back. The dress is a vintage pattern, an anomaly in vintage patterns in fact because they usually run small, but I made this 2 years ago and it was massively too big. I finished it off a few weeks ago by finally adding the straps and it is just right.Image ImageThe straps were supposed to be tie-at-the-shoulder, but wouldn't stay up, so I have made them twice as long and rouched them over stiff elastic so as to make them stay on her shouldersImage. The fabric is lovely light voile and it makes a perfect summer outfit with little short leggings.Image ImageThe skirt was a tiny size 6 ankle length denim skirt, which I picked up in an op shop for a couple of dollars. I have chopped off about half a metre from the top of it to make it knee length, and to make it fit around me, then added a side zip and button.Image I didn't have any fabric to match for the waist band but I won't ever be wearing anything tucked into it so it doesn't matter. I wore it to staff training today and regretted it because I had to keep my knees together all day LOL! Otherwise I am quite delighted with it.Image

old-fashioned girl

Image
I've had this fabric for yonks, so long I can't even remember where or when I bought it, but I think it was about 8 years ago.Image I still really like the colour combinations but somehow it also has a bit of an outdated feel to it. I'm not quite sure if it is outdated enough to be retro-cool or just old, but I still think they are quite cute. ImageThe patterns are Ottobre yet again. I realised miss 3 has grown so much since last Winter that nothing she owns will fit once the cold weather arrives, so I'm getting an early start on making a few warmer clothes. ImageI also picked up a beautiful velveteen Osh Kosh jacket in the exact same red at an op shop on Friday - bargain!
