wiping sand
from the broken conch . . .
summer’s end

summer twilight
the sound of waves
turning inward
shrapnel scars
her fingers tracing
Orion
her scars
deeper than bone . . .
winter solstice
sheltering
against the dawn . . .
thistledown
hospice bed
each breath
a lifetime
all-night diner —
scrying my future
in a coffee cup
breaking the skin
of an overripe peach
harvest moon
summer’s end —
the secrets we wrote
in the sand
daybreak the cold edge of the bed
stone
by stone, the river
widens
winter roses —
trying to remember
trying to forget
shallow stream
we cross a bridge
of stars
