INVICTUS

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Thanksgiving...

Thanksgiving was wonderful. Everything from spending time with the fam, cooking loads of food, hiking in Zion to riding bikes with Talea while freezing our butts off! It all was a blast, but playing with baby Jonah was my favorite part. He is so precious, I just love him...

Mud Run

This weekend we ran in the Camp Pendelton mud run. It is only a 10k so I figured it would be pretty easy...wrong! During the first mile they soaked everyone with fire hoses. As if running with an additional five pounds on each foot wasn't bad enough, the next mile and a half was in the sand. Suicide hill was the next two miles...and no it isn't just a clever name. The last two miles the mud came in to play, hence the name of the race. Everything from climbing muddy walls to running through little tunnels to climbing on all fours up a steep hill of slimy mud. I was looking forward to the quarter mile swim in the lake towards the end, but as most of you know California is kind of in a drought. There wasn't any water so we had to run through the dry lake bed that smelled about the same as a field of cow crap. Right before the finish line we had to swim through the mud under some wires, and yes I did receive a mouth full of this tasty water/dirt combo while doing so...yum! In all it was a blast and our team did very well considering we started training the week of the race. We finished somewhere in the 90th's place out of 400 teams and we even beat some of the marine teams, it was great!

Here is the team feeling pretty good before the race, please don't ask me why Tim is flexing like that or what the guy behind us is doing...

Two things I love...dogs and surfing. We took Reg's to the dog surfing contest in Del Mar...here is the medium size dog champ...
Image
We went to an eighties party and I tried to get my hair eighties huge with a little side wave. It took half a bottle of conditioner, thirty minutes of picking and two wads of hair...so not worth it!

Hey You Guys!

Well we have been back in California for about a month now and are still trying to get back into the swing of things. We had a fun summer with the fam, but are happy to be back.

Oh, how I have missed you...
Image
Aaahhhh...
Image
We went to the Bob Marley Festival last night and had a blast. We were only twenty feet from the stage...our ears are still ringing! Here is a picture of Ziggy Marley and his band. I know it looks like a fuzzy picture, but no, that is just all the smoke in the air...not from cigarettes of course! =)

Mill Flat

It had been way too long. I have told Tim about this place for years. We finally made it...the last time I was here I was with my dad, it really has been that long ago.

Here we are at the trail head. Five miles up, five miles down. I didn't think it would be hard at all, but the last mile is killer. My family has hiked this many times. My mom would pack Tanner on her back! I was probably four or five my first trip. It was beautiful...

Here is the flat at the top of the mountain...

Tim loved it...
Image
The water is crystal clear and freezing! There are about twenty creek crossings...
Image
A piece of the old mill...

I couldn't believe how small the flat was, I guess when your a kid everything is so much bigger. We can't wait to get back there.

Oh Regular...

Tim's Godmother, Aunt Willi, passed away a few weeks ago. We went to her funeral on Saturday and walked out wanting to be better people because of her. She touched so many people and was an incredible teacher to her students. She will be missed...
Image Here is "Regular"...after Willi passed away we were fortunate enough to inherit her beloved dog. As you can see he slightly resembles that of "the beast" from the sandlot. When he was a tiny pup, someone dropped him over her fence. She took him to the vet and asked if he would get very big. The vet said no and that he was just a regular dog. I think he was off just a bit! And that is how he got his name.
Image He is so sweet and always makes me happy...

Another move and Earthshake!

Image
Image
Well it seems as though we are moving again...just for a few months though. We will be in St. George for the summer so Tim can do what he loves...playing with fire! I am excited to spend the summer with my sisters and their kids...though it will be hard not to be able to go to the beach everyday this summer. Oh well, I guess the lakes and pools will have to do. These pics were taken by someone on Tim's fire crew. Beautiful and sad at the same time. Tim still has not received his test scores with SD Fire Dept. yet, but it looks like even if he get a high score there will probably be no jobs. California has no money left to pay their police and fire men...how sad is that? On to our next plan: finish school by next summer and apply with the Park Service, can you imagine Tim in that sweet uniform. Our plan is to apply somewhere tropical...maybe Guam or the Virgin Islands or hey maybe Hawaii. We will just have to wait and see, who knows, by then we will probably have a new and exciting plan that popped into one of our adventure craving heads!
On a side note, I experienced my first California earthquake last night. Even though it was sixty miles or so north of us we still felt it. I was just laying there checking out my victoria's secret magazine while Tim was studying. I got up and heard the glass on the shelves shaking. I though it was from the bed hitting into the furniture when I got up. I turned around and looked at Tim. He had a huge smile on his face and said, "Holy $#*! that was an earthquake!" Having lived most of his life in So-Cal you would think he would be immune to them by now. It was pretty crazy!

Little Tan Tan...

Image
We were in Utah this past weekend to see my brother Tanner. He is leaving for two whole years and I am so sad about it. I know I am sad for myself, but I hate knowing that he won't be there when I go to visit. Who else will I have to booty shake dance with? Who will be there to make me laugh until I cry? And what about the one in the morning chats we would have? I am excited for him, but I can't wait for him to be back home. Love you Tany!

New members of the family...

Image Tim's mom says he came from a turtle family so it makes sense that we give him some real siblings. The bigger one is two years old and the smaller, is one.
Image This is lil' fella, he or she is so tiny!
Image Big guy or gal loves to be pet. We won't know for a few years if they are girls or boys, but they sure are cute!
