This Is Me--2024 A to Z Theme

My A to Z Themes in the past have covered a range of topics and for 2025 the theme is a random assemblage of things that are on my mind--or that just pop into my mind. Whatever! Let's just say I'll be "Tossing It Out" for your entertainment or however it is you perceive these things.

MY LAST POST (of 2025) ( #BOTB Results )

It's before Christmas as I post this.  I said I'd do this and now here is my last post of the year.  It's just a Battle of the Bands results post as well as another holiday greeting. Maybe no one will read it or maybe so.  I don't know.  And I'm not thinking about it that much...

This is the outcome of my "O Holy Night" Battle between the Lost Dogs and Rebecca St James. Not many attended this show and voted on it so I'll just be brief.  I liked both of these takes quite well, but for my taste I'll have to go with the more traditional version as done by The Lost Dogs.

Final Vote Tally

Lost Dogs                    5 votes

Rebecca St James       2 votes

Merry Christmas!

Hope you all have a wonderful, happy, safe holiday season!  See you next year!

O Holy Night ( #BOTB )

I'm getting the feel of Christmas of late.  My wife and I have been binging on Hallmark Christmas movies and paid a rare visit to the mall on Sunday.  And I've been playing Christmas songs in our church youth band that has been recently started up.  Well, not an all youth band since I'm in it.  At least it's been making me feel somewhat young.  But now for some Christmas music...

Battle of the Bands

Battle of the Bands is the blogging event started by Far Away Series and  StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands.   I do this event  each month on the 15th and the 1st of the month.  The premise is simple:  Listen to the songs presented below and then in the comments vote for your favorite and tell us why you liked it.  Then visit the links listed near the bottom of this post for more Battle action.

O Holy Night

This is one of my all time favorite Christmas songs.  I used to sing it to my younger brother when he was about 5 and he would ask me to sing "Fall on Your Knees" for him before he went to sleep. I was about 14 at the time.  When I hear this song I can't help but think of those times.  Here are two versions of the song for you to consider and then tell us which you like best...

Lost Dogs   "O Holy Night"  (2007)

Rebecca St James  "O Holy Night"  (1997)

Time to Vote!

Don't be naughty!  Be nice.  Vote please.   Which song interpretation do you prefer?  Battles are no fun without you the reader participating.
Hopefully you have an opinion of some kind.  You don't have to know about music to have an opinion since it all comes down to your own personal taste.

Please vote on your favorite by letting us know your choice in the comment section and tell us why you prefer the version you chose. Then after you've finished here, please visit the other blogs listed below who may or may not be participating this time around. And if you've put up your own BOTB contest let us know that as well so we can vote on yours. I don't know if anyone else will be doing a Battle this time around, but you can still check out these sites.

And Here's What We Got ( #BOTB )

I've spent the past two days at the dentist.  I was just waiting for my wife the first day because due to a misunderstanding on my part I scheduled my appointment for today (Tuesday) so I went back twice.  My appointment was a longer waiting than I had anticipated, but a short time for the procedure itself.  Now two more appointments to address the toothache I've been having the past few weeks.

I can't really afford this work, but the pain had to be addressed and then I'll figure out what to do next.  There is so much more to do.  If I had the means I could probably have  standing weekly appointment until everything is taken care of.  Seems like it at least.  The reality is that a good dentist can take care of a lot of issues in a relatively short time.  Next time I go I might consider wearing one of those adult diapers if you know what I'm talking about.  All in all I'd rather not go to have dental work done, but I don't want to have tooth pain so what else can I do?

But let's get down to the business now overdue.  Battle of the Band results.  My previous Battle was a showdown between wacky musicians Frank Zappa and Spike Jones.   Several voters did so with little enthusiasm.   I guess they just need to listen more to appreciate these artists, both whom I think are great.

When I was a kid, my parents had a wonderful RCA compilation album on vinyl that had among its many great numbers "Cocktails for Two" as performed by Spike Jones and his zany orchestra.  I was always thrilled when I saw them on TV.  I even composed my own Spike Jones tribute when I was learning to write music.  It wasn't very good, but at least I did my effort of showing my fandom for the artist.

When Zappa came along years later, I was immediately captivated by the music.  I've listened to Zappa albums throughout the years and have several of his CDs on my shelves.  Spike is certainly fun and a music pioneer, but in this Battle I vote for Zappa by a narrow margin.

So I'm happy with my outcome.  Thanks to all who voted!

Final Voting Results

Frank Zappa      7 votes

Spike Jones        7  votes
