Burton Folsom Interview! (12/12/14)

We are excited to welcome Burton Folsom to the program. A professor of history at Hillsdale College and a great advocate of Free Market economics. He received his B. A., from, Indiana University. His M.A. from the University of Nebraska, and his PhD from the University of Pittsburgh. He has written several books. One of the most popular ones is The Myth of the Robber Barons, which explores the positive effects of entrepreneurs and limited government. In the book he makes clear the often overlooked difference between "political" entrepreneurs and "market" entrepreneurs. He gives examples from history of various market motivated businessmen (like Rockefeller, Schwab, Vanderbilt, & J.J. Hill) and how their actions positively affected their contemporaries and the history of the United States. He also shows how politically motivated businessmen (like Fulton, Villard, Gould, and Stanford) had mostly negative effects. He makes a very effective case that big government and regulatory agencies get in the way of a healthy economy!

Eric H. Cline Interview! (12/5/14)

It is a true honor to welcome to the program, Dr. Eric H. Cline. He is here to discuss his most recent book which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, 1177 BC: The Year Civilization Collapsed (2014).

He is Professor of Classics and Anthropology, former Chair of the Department of Classical and Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, and current Director of the Capitol Archaeological Institute at The George Washington University, in Washington DC.

A Fulbright scholar and National Geographic Explorer, Dr. Cline holds degrees in Classical Archaeology (BA, Dartmouth 1982), Near Eastern Archaeology (MA, Yale 1984), and Ancient History (Ph.D., University of Pennsylvania 1991). His primary fields of expertise are the interactions between the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean during the second millennium BC as well the military history of selected sites through the ages.

An active field archaeologist, he has excavated and surveyed in Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Cyprus, Greece, Crete, and the United States virtually every summer since 1980, for a total of 30 field seasons. He is currently Co-Director of two excavations in Israel: Megiddo (biblical Armageddon) and Tel Kabri, which operate in alternate summers.

He is perhaps best known for writing The Battles of Armageddon: Megiddo and the Jezreel Valley from the Bronze Age to the Nuclear Age (2000); Jerusalem Besieged: From Ancient Canaan to Modern Israel (2004); From Eden to Exile: Unraveling Mysteries of the Bible (2007); Biblical Archaeology: A Very Short Introduction (2009) and The Trojan War: A Very Short Introduction (2013), in addition to 1177 BC.

Dr. Cline’s research has been featured and reviewed in Time magazine, the New Yorker, the Washington Post, the New York Times, the New York Post, the Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, the Boston Globe, US News & World Report, USA Today, the National Republic, the Weekly Standard, the Huffington Post, National Geographic News, the Times Literary Supplement, the Times Higher Education Supplement, the Jerusalem Post, the London Daily Telegraph, the London Mirror, the Brisbane Courier-Mail, the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Cincinnati Post, the Associated Press, and elsewhere, including all of the major television networks and many of the cable networks, such as ABC, NBC, CBS, and CNN.

Interview with S.C. Gwynne! (11/28/14)

TRP welcomes acclaimed author S.C. Gwynne! S.C. (Sam) Gwynne has spent most of the last fourteen years writing for Texas Monthly, where he was Executive Editor from 2000-2008. In 2008 he won the National City and Regional Magazine Award for “Writer of the Year.” He also writes for Outside magazine. Prior to joining Texas Monthly, Sam worked for Time Magazine for 12 years as Correspondent, Bureau Chief, National Correspondent and Senior Editor. He wrote some 200 stories for Time, including 6 cover stories. He won a number of awards for his work at Time, including a National Headliners Award for his work on the Columbine High School shootings. He is the author of the prize winning New York Times bestseller Empire of the Summer Moon, and he's here to talk about his new book, Rebel Yell: The Violence, Passion, and Redemption of Stonewall Jackson, a thrilling account of how General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson became a great and very tragic American hero.

Michael Maloof Interview! (10/3/14)

Frank and John welcome Michael Maloof, to TRP, a former senior security policy analyst in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, he has almost 30 years of federal service with U.S. Defense Department and was a specialized trainer for border guards and Special Forces. While with the Department of Defense, he was Director of Technology Security Operations as head of a 10-person team involved in halting the diversion of militarily-critical technologies to countries of national security concern and those involved in sponsoring terrorism.

Michael has also been a special Washington correspondent for the Detroit News, a reporter for a specialized newsletter at U.S. News & World Report, and currently he is the senior reporter in World Net Daily’s Washington bureau.

Eri Hotta Interview! (5/23/14)

Frank & John welcome author and historian, Eri Hotta, to the program to discuss her latest ground breaking book, Japan 1941: Countdown to Infamy.

Eri was born and raised in Tokyo. Educated in Japan, the United States, and the UK. She received a BA in history at Princeton and did her Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy in International Relations at Oxford, where she also taught from 2001-2005. She was a professor in Jerusalem as well. Her previous work includes, Pan-Asianism and Japan's War, 1931–1945.

Why would Japan, a country that was out-resourced 74 fold by the United States, carry on such an illogical war? Was the Japanese high command guilty of wishful thinking or just "great gamblers" that didn't properly ponder an exit strategy? Eri explains the petty rivalries and conflicts in the Japanese leadership that fueled it's desire to re-invent itself and how these flaws ultimately lead to their defeat.

Did victory over the Russian Empire in 1905 give Japan a false confidence to think they could now aggressively compete on the world stage? The anger that Japan felt because they were not treated as a "great power" by the West at the 1919 Versailles Conference....The United States actually pondered the handing over of the Philippines! Plus, Woodrow Wilson's refusal to include Japan's desired "racial & religious equality clause."

Was Japan a victim of Western bullies or the initiators of the war? Was the attack on Pearl Harbor a mere "holding action" by the Japanese? Was Emperor Hirohito actually a weak and cowardly man, afraid of a coup by the militarists?

Scott Wolter (World Solutrean Day Interview!) (4/22/14)

Scott Wolter returns as promised for "World Solutrean Day!" (4/22/14) and is named our "2014 Solutrean Man of the year!!" Also, the "World Council of Solutrean Elders" bestows on Scott his sacred new Solutrean name, "He Who has been Blessed by the Ancestors!" ..."He of the First Blood" declares him a pioneer in "unearthing" the truth about the history of the new world!

Scott talks about recent amazing episodes of his hit show, America Unearthed on History Channel (H2), including one which dealt with the Kennewick Man. Scott has nothing but great things to say about former multiple-time TRP guest, Dr. James Chatters, who joined Scott to discuss the bones of the Kennewick man. As soon as Dr. Chatters saw Kennewick man's skull, he immediately knew it was not "Beringian" and was worthy of in-depth study! Scott believes the Federal Government's covering of the Kennewick site with 50 tons of rock and gravel raises some serious red flags. He states his belief that their cover story, "erosion control," is in his opinion not a credible explanation for the dump!

Also discussed are the ground breaking artifacts found by amateur fossil hunter, James Kennedy, at Vero Beach!, which Dr. Dennis Stanford believes are definitely of Solutrean origin! When "He of the First Blood" first gazed at James Kennedy's amazing artifact of the first ever seen rendering of a "Solutrean man," he admits to being sucked up into a whirling vortex of Solutrean memory!

Frank brings up several controversial books he has read, three he liked, Worlds in Collision, by Immanuel Velikovsky, God-Kings and the Titans, by James Bailey, and Robert Marx's In Quest of the Great White Gods. He then brings up a book he deplored, Charles C. Mann's, 1491, New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus.

Frank & Scott talk about the origins of the legend associated with Quetzalcoatl which tells of a "bearded white man who came from the east," and they both wondered why that account is just dismissed out of hand. They conclude that the legend could actually be based on caucasians visiting the old world in the distant past!

Plus, Scott's run in with the Smithsonian Institute that made him admit that "he didn't trust them any farther than he could throw them!" He also reacts to the apparent conspiracy to protect "old research & careers in academia" that has him questioning and confronting their methodology and orthodoxy! He points out "the problems of the human condition" that often times stymies scientific progress! The archaeologists at Cahokia say they didn't want Scott visiting their site because they "don't like" his program! Scott then mused, "like some how that's going to stop us!"

Also, his ongoing work on the "post Solutrean migration" of the Templars to the new world and his dealings with the Bad Creek Stone, Tucson Lead Crosses, Kennsington Runestone, and the Spirit Pond Runestones!

Professor Michael Ruggeri Interview! (4/18/14)

TRP welcomes Professor Emeritus Michael Ruggeri of the City Colleges of Chicago, where he taught Ancient American Studies for over 33 years! As a trailblazer 14 years ago, he started the most in-depth compilation of Ancient America Web Pages (now over 40 in all) on the Internet!

His website MichaelRuggeri.com includes his popular Pre-Clovis and Clovis Archaeological News. His two Pre-Clovis and Clovis pages also contain more information on this topic than any other resource anywhere. The Professor also moderates the Aztlan listserv; the largest and oldest Ancient Americas listserv on the web. He moderates an Andean list and a Mound Builders list as well.

Professor Ruggeri became interested in the Pre-Clovis topic when he realized that his field was way behind on research in this specific area. He quickly understood that this should have been one of the premier areas of study for American archaeology! Little was known about this fascinating topic when he first started his pages, but, it soon became hot with Kennewick Man and the final breaking of the Clovis barrier at Monte Verde. He was bewildered by the great amount of disinformation that was being disseminated on the topic. He knew that real information needed to be gathered and posted on the web, all in one place, to attract and inform a much wider audience. To all of our gratitude he has done just that!

Dr James M. Adovasio Interview! (4/11/14)

We are lucky enough to welcome one of the foremost archaeologists in the world to TRP! Dr. James M. Adovasio, currently the Provost, Dean of the Zurn School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and Director of the Mercyhurst Archaeological Institute at Mercyhurst University. 

Just who were "the first" Americans?? Dr. Adovasio has very graciously come on to discuss his now famous work at Meadowcroft Rockshelter in Pennsylvania and his subsequent role in the “Clovis First/Pre-Clovis” debate. A prolific scholar, he has published nearly 400 books, monographs, articles, and papers. His credentials easily rank him with anyone on the planet in his field. He articulates some very confident statements to John & Frank, which they feel finally puts the supposed "debate" to an end! He also addresses his critics and gives us a wonderfully thought provoking interview! 

Dr. Adovasio is the recipient of a number of honors and awards. In 1971, the Smithsonian Institution awarded him a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship, followed by a Certificate for Academic Achievement in 1972. Adovasio received an honorary D.Sc. from Washington and Jefferson College in 1983. He also won the Mercyhurst College Alumni Association Outstanding Achievement Award (1993), the Pennsylvania Historic Preservation Board Award for Archaeological Research at Meadowcroft Rockshelter (1996), and the J. Alden Mason Award for Career Contribution to Pennsylvania Prehistory (1996). In 1995, Dr. Adovasio became a Knight of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. His peers elected him as a fellow for the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and he has served as a lecturer for the Archaeological Institute of America since 2008.

He excavated the Meadowcroft Rockshelter site in Pennsylvania from 1973 to 1978 under the auspices of the University of Pittsburgh. The site contains 11 distinct stratigraphic units spanning at least 16,000, and potentially 19,000 radiocarbon years, of sporadic occupation, making it the oldest and longest occupational sequence in eastern North America and one of the oldest in the Western Hemisphere. To support the radiocarbon dates from the earliest occupational levels, Adovasio emphasizes that the 52 radiocarbon dates from Meadowcroft are, with several inconsequential low order reversals in late contexts, in absolute stratigraphic order. Additionally, all of the assayed samples derive from firepits and fire features with directly associated cultural material of indisputable anthropogenic origins. The entire suite of early dates derives from beneath a rockfall event of Clovis age. 

Currently, Dr. Adovasio is working in the Gulf of Mexico looking for submerged sites on the continental shelf, focusing on submerged coastlines, especially where rivers meet the ocean. Analysis of submerged sites could yield a wealth of information about prehistoric humans, as modern humans have yet to disturb them due to the rise in sea level that submerged the sites thousands of years ago. He also continues to analyze prehistoric plant fiber perishables from throughout the world.

J. M. Adovasio has spent the last thirty years at the center of one of our most fiery scientific debates: Who were the first humans in the Americas, and how and when did they get there? 

At its heart, "The First Americans" is the story of the revolution in thinking that Adovasio and his fellow archaeologists have brought about, and the firestorm it has ignited. As he writes, “The work of lifetimes has been put at risk, reputations have been damaged, an astounding amount of silliness and even profound stupidity has been taken as serious thought, and always lurking in the background of all the argumentation and gnashing of tenets has been the question of whether the field of archaeology can ever be pursued as a science.”

Dr. Dennis Jenkins Interview! (4/4/14)

World Solutrean Month kicks off with yet another trailblazer in the world of archaeology! TRP is proud to welcome Dr. Dennis L. Jenkins of the University of Oregon!

Dennis L. Jenkins is a research archaeologist, field school supervisor for the Oregon State Museum of Anthropology/Museum of Natural and Cultural History at the University of Oregon, and director of the

university's Northern Great Basin Field School. His archaeological experience spans some 35 years with more than 100 excavations! His remarkable finds have led to a new accepted date for earliest human settlement in the Americas.

Dr. Jenkins has found "actual human remains" that pre-date the Clovis Beringians by over one thousand years! Ancient human coprolites (dried feces) directly radiocarbon dated to 14,500 years ago have been recovered from Pleistocene aged deposits containing artifacts and extinct megafaunal remains in the Paisley 5 Mile Point Caves in south central Oregon. Their human origins verified by the extraction of ancient DNA, these are currently the oldest directly dated human remains in the Western Hemisphere. This very unique site has many kinds of perishable and nonperishable items preserved there. The evidence indicates the first site occupants were broad-range hunter-gathers well adapted to the Northern Great Basin’s high desert environment of the late Pleistocene.

Professor Richard Overy Interview! (3/14/14)

Professor Richard Overy, acclaimed historian and author of, The Twilight Years: The Paradox of Britain Between the Wars joins John & Frank for an exclusive interview! Frank has mentioned his book multiple times on the show, now he and the professor have a chance to discuss it.

Richard Overy is currently Professor of History at the University of Exeter (2004.) He was educated at Caius College. He taught at Cambridge from 1972 to 1979, at Queens' College from 1976-79. From 1980 to 2004 he taught at King's College, London, where he was made professor of Modern History in 1994. He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society (1977), Fellow of the British Academy (2000) and Fellow of King's College (2003). In 2001 he was awarded the Samuel Elliot Morrison Prize of the Society for Military History for his contribution to the history of warfare. He received both the Wolfson History Prize and Hessell-Tiltman Prize for his book, The Dictators: Hitler's Germany; Stalin's Russia. In 2007 as The Times (UK) editor of, Complete History of the World, he chose the 50 key dates of world history. His work on World War II has been praised as "highly effective (in) the ruthless dispelling of myths" by noted historian (A. J. P. Taylor), "original and important" by the (New York Review of Books), and "at the cutting edge" by The Time (UK). Frank recommends many of his other great books including, 1939: Countdown to War and Why the Allies Won.

Jasper Becker Interview! (3/7/14)

Jasper Becker joins our recent cavalcade of British Intellectuals! John & Frank warmly welcome him to the program for one of his lengthiest interviews to date! Frank has mentioned his now classic book, Hungry Ghosts: Mao's Secret Famine, numerous times on TRP!

Jasper is one of the most renowned experts on China in the West. He runs the Legend Strategic Consultancy Ltd. He has a BA from Goldsmith's College in the University of London. He also studied at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich and later obtained a post-graduate Diploma in Modern Chinese from the University of London. In addition to Chinese, he speaks French and German. He has been writing on Asia for 25 years and is the author of seven books. He spent 18 years reporting from Beijing and worked as a correspondent in Brussels, Geneva, and  Frankfurt. He wrote, Dragon Rising – An Inside Look at China Today and is currently writing a book, The Root of all Evils, about mankind's recent efforts to abolish money and why it can't be done!!

The insane asylum that was Mao's China is examined at length! Listen to the history of Mao's forced collectivization during his supposed Great Leap Forward that led to upwards of 50 million dead Chinese in the greatest famine the world has ever seen! What sets this famine apart from those in Ireland and India is that it was entirely man-made! China was at peace. No blight destroyed the harvest. There were no unusual floods or droughts. The granaries were full and other countries were ready to ship grain. But, a blind devotion to Marxist Leninist ideology and methodology led to one of the most vile and inhumane mass atrocities one could ever imagine. During his terror campaign, Mao and his cult of acolytes, intentionally spit in the face of reason and slavishly promoted some of the greatest scientific absurdities known to man! Reality meant nothing to them, they simply "had faith" that they could literally change nature and re-engineer the environment with "human will." They avowed to push a "pure communist spirit and attitude" that would overcome the overrated successes of "western science." Mao also initiated a great fervor to eradicate "capitalist" thinking. He considered the people "blank sheets of paper" to be molded and coerced. He called it "year zero" and would make the Chinese throw away their individuality, religion, and families. Loyalty to the "party" became paramount over all else and Mao's cadres terrified the people into submission. Because he completely militarized the country he was able to strictly control and propagandize the flow of information. Thus, the true extent of the famine was slow to get to out. But even as word spread, well known Leftists around the world defiantly continued to sing Mao's praises as a "new kind of leader." Famous men like François Mitterrand, now late ex-French president, and committed fellow traveler, called him a great "humanist" and insisted to the very end that he was not a dictator and that there was no famine! These lunatics truly believed he would lead a peasant rebellion from the countryside and drive the engineers into the fields where they would be better off. In a sad bit of irony the Chi-Com's party slogan was "No one shall starve!" When it is all said and done, after the Great Chinese Famine, Mao's Cultural Revolution, and his purges that followed, the Chinese death toll rose to a staggering and most alarming 80 million!

Professor Rana Mitter Interview! (2/21/14)

In one of the most in-depth and informative historical interviews you will ever hear...Professor Rana Mitter, from, The University of Oxford, is a very welcome and distinguished guest on TRP!

He is Director of the University China Centre at the University of Oxford, where he is Professor of the History and Politics of Modern China. He is the author of several books, including the award-winning A Bitter Revolution: China’s Struggle with the Modern World (Oxford, 2004). His new book China’s War with Japan, 1937-45: The Struggle for Survival, was published by Penguin in June 2013 (in North America, under the title Forgotten Ally in September 2013) and was described as “superb” by the New York Times and "must reading for anyone seeking a full perspective on the Pacific war" in the Washington Times. He was featured in the New York Times Sunday Book Review.

Rana is a regular presenter on BBC Radio in the UK. His reviews and essays have appeared in newspapers including the Financial Times, Guardian, Telegraph, Caijing, and Outlook (India).  He speaks regularly on China in the UK and around the world.

Frank & Professor Mitter discuss the incredible and not often talked about aspects of the struggle between Chinese Nationalism and Japanese Imperialism. Also, the personal clash between Mao Zedong and Chiang Kai-Shek and the reasons for the eventual Nationalist defeat at the hands of the Communists by 1949.

The "Long March" has been glamorized in Communist mythology, but it is actually a "Long Retreat" by the Communists. Also, the somewhat paradoxical alliance of "extreme anti-Communist" Chiang Kai-Shek and Joseph Stalin. Stalin's motives behind the alliance in 1936 are explained.

The reasons for the Japanese strategy of attacking the Soviet eastern border and the Japanese leadership's internal disputes are discussed along with the book, Japan, 1941: Countdown to Infamy, by Eri Hotta.

The now classic book, The Rape Of Nanking: The Forgotten Holocaust Of World War II, written by Rana's late friend Iris Chang, is brought up when describing the Japanese war crimes against China. Crimes, Professor Mitter describes as one of the most sad and brutal episodes in history!

Scott Wolter Interview! (1/24/14)

In another ground breaking TRP interview, Scott Wolter, host of America Unearthed on History Channel (H2) returns to the show with some exclusive news about Kennewick man and the Solutrean people! Scott has been on the show before and is well known for his belief in a fugitive Templar Order that visited North America (Novum Solutreum) at some point in pre-Columbian times.

Frank is a big fan of his show. He likes how it gets people to consider new research and help break the established academic orthodoxy. Scott explains his breakthrough into television with his research into the Kensington Runestone. How he later went on to present the impressive documentary shows for the History Channel: Holy Grail in America and Who Really Discovered America? He tells the audience of over a dozen possible runestones with the specially noted "hooked X" feature.

Frank tells Scott of his now famous Solutrean Vision Quests and his visits to numerous sites including L'Anse aux meadows in Newfoundland. Frank wonders why there were no Runestones found at that particular Viking site and Scott posits a likely explanation. He also makes Scott aware of how as an ordained Solutrean shaman and head of "The Solutrean Council of Elders," he has proudly taken the name, "He of The First Blood," as a rightful descendant of the original Solutrean, "Father of the Blood!" Frank also makes Scott consider use of his coined word "Beringian," the proper anthropological term for the "supposed native American people" that crossed over from the land mass of Beringia. John drives home the point that the Beringians came here like any other immigrants and deserve no special treatment nor the sympathy afforded them by modern political correctness. He then asks where is the outcry of sympathy for the Solutrean people who likely had their land stolen from them by the Beringians? We also find out, that unlike most of the mainstream, Scott has the intellectual courage to accept the tenets of the Solutrean Hypothesis.

Plus, in something you will never hear in a regular mainstream interview, we witness some incredible depth, a battle of dueling libraries between Frank and Scott! As they discuss the "commonality of disease" hypothesis, as presented by two opposing researchers. The work of Victor Wolfgang Von Hagan is brought up by Frank, and the book, World Trade and Biological Exchanges Before 1492 is brought up by Scott.

In an another off the cuff extemporaneous display of depth, Frank crushes the flawed logic behind Harry Hubbard's claims of Alexander Helios traveling to the new world!
