Memorial Day Weekend

Yesterday we went to church and then spent the afternoon with some sweet friends from college and their families. Ok. I’m going to be really honest. I was super excited about this. 🙂 Then the weather report said it was supposed to rain. This might sound bad, but the thought of 8 children (7 boys) ages 8, 7, 7, 7, 5, 5, 4, and almost 3 years old cooped up in my house while it rained outside made me a little nervous. It rained all morning.  We got drenched walking to our car after church. But at 12:30, it stopped. We were able to grill out, let the kids play outside, and catch up with one another. It was wonderful! The kids were amazing…seriously amazing! The last time all of us were together at one time was our wedding (which will be 12 years this July!) I’ve seen them separately, just not together. Can’t wait to get together again!IMG_7994

We had planned to go to the beach with the Broadwells today like we usually do on Memorial Day weekend, but it was calling for rain in Charleston, so we unfortunately had to cancel. So, last night around 7:00 we met up with my parents so the kids could go spend the night. Yay for granny and papa wanting the kids to spend the night! They stayed up entirely too late having movie night(but I guess that’s what you’re supposed to do with grandparents. I remember doing the same thing with mine!) 🙂 Today they went to the zoo, Chick-fil-a, Menchies, Books-a-million, then picked up Pa and met us and more family at the Koger Center for a great patriotic concert that Aunt Melanie played in. We even got to see Aunt Spencer and her residents from work. 🙂 FullSizeRender_1IMG_8006After the concert, we ate dinner at Hickory Tavern in the Vista, came home and played outside, got baths, and those sleepy heads are in bed! FullSizeRender_2FullSizeRender_3IMG_8007Whew! I’m so thankful for such a great weekend!FullSizeRender

Today we left our house at 9:50am and got home at 8:50pm. In those 11 hours we watched our precious daughter do a great job with her tap and ballet dances at her recital, IMG_7941IMG_7943IMG_7961IMG_7944IMG_7945IMG_7947watched our boy run his heart out and play hard at his last soccer game, FullSizeRender_2FullSizeRender_1IMG_7948IMG_7950played on the bounce house slide and obstacle course after his game and ate lunch with family, IMG_7951watched AC’s best friend in her recital while the boys played golf, IMG_7953FullSizeRendervisited and ate dinner with more family (my aunt is in town from VA and my cousin graduated yesterday), IMG_7954IMG_7955IMG_7958IMG_7959then met up with Cortney and SA to see the Cinderella ballet, which was wonderful! The day was surprisingly not as stressful as I thought. Everything went well! On the way home from the ballet I treated AC to an icecream cone and she said, “Momma, take a picture of that beautiful sunset.” IMG_7960Now all my babies are clean and in bed and I’m about to go to bed to0. It really was a wonderful day!

Sea Lions

We are so fortunate to live so close to a fabulous zoo.  Yesterday we headed to the zoo after school with the Broadwells. It was so fun to get a sneak peek at the new exhibit for the sea lions. It was so impressive and so fun to watch them swimming around! IMG_7864IMG_7866IMG_7877Anna Claire got her cast on Monday. Thankfully we were able to get a waterproof cast. She’s doing pretty good with it and has been SO excited for her friends to sign it. 🙂 IMG_7846IMG_7848IMG_7849After she got her cast we went ot Kona Ice. It was a fundraiser for their school. IMG_7850Here’s a picture of lunch one day with the kids and some friends. FullSizeRenderCharlie got a chance to bring Freddy home one more time.  He had fun taking him to basketball practice, out to dinner, and playing outside. IMG_7859Here’s a throwback to New Years…Devin and I had a great date night while the kids had fun with Granny and Papa! IMG_6374IMG_6377IMG_6379IMG_6390IMG_6392Fun playdate with some friends from school a while back.IMG_6833 Lost teeth…Anna Claire’s sweet friend Hannah told her about what happens when the tooth fairy comes after you lose your second tooth. You put it in a glass of water and when the tooth fairy comes, color and glitter from her wings fall off in the water.  Ha ha! So here’s AC’s water glass…

Last but not least, the kids had a leadership/literacy night at school. We had a great time, and as always, are so thankful for such a wonderful school!IMG_6855IMG_6857IMG_6858IMG_6860

Wonderful Weekend

After our unfortunate trip to urgent care on Friday with AC, the rest of our weekend was great!

Saturday morning we headed out to watch our best buddies play soccer then we headed to Charlie’s soccer game. He’s such a great athlete…thanks to all his Daddy’s help! 🙂 That afternoon we met Aunt Spencer and Uncle Brandon at Kona Ice.  They brought AC some get well soon balloons and cupcakes. That night we tried a new place for supper – Blaze Pizza. It was delicious! Then we went to see the Jungle Book. Devin, Charlie, and I liked it. I think AC liked it once it was over, but it was pretty intense in some parts for her.IMG_7824IMG_7828IMG_7829IMG_7832IMG_7833IMG_7834

Sunday we went to church, lunch with friends, daddy installed our new back door, and then the boys went to the Fireflies baseball game and the girls got pedicures! IMG_7837IMG_7839IMG_7840IMG_7841IMG_7842

I sure do love my family and I’m so thankful for a fun weekend.

Here are a few old pictures…the kids went to the Lexington Museum earlier this school year on a field trip to visit original Oak Grove Elementary school house.IMG_4556IMG_4557IMG_4572IMG_4621IMG_4622 Also, here are some cute pictures from when we went to watch one of Charlie’s friends play baseball and my sweet AC reading in the hammock with me. Oh I love them! IMG_7737IMG_7729And to wrap up this post, here are cute pictures of sweet friends eating snow cones. 🙂 IMG_7167IMG_6983

Phone Calls and Broken Bones

There have been two times in my life that Devin has called me and it wasn’t good…

The first one we can laugh about now. 🙂 It was 6 years ago so the twins were 1. I took them out to the zoo while my awesome husband installed recessed lights in our living room. He finished installing them and was cleaning up. He went back to the attic to grab the last of his tools when it happened…that’s when I get a phone call. “Don’t be mad,” he said. “I stepped through the ceiling,” he said. I didn’t believe him. But oh it was true. Thankfully he was ok and he fixed the ceiling.  It really is a funny story now. 🙂 foot in ceiling

Today I was at Sandhills Middle School meeting with two middle school teachers for a grant I work with at USC. At the end of my meeting I look at my phone and have a missed call and text from Devin: “Bit of an emergency, AC fell out of a tree…her arm hurts. Maybe broken.” I immediately call him, then call the pediatrician to find out where they recommend to go, then meet Devin, Charlie, and AC at the Lexington Urgent Care. Y’all, they were great there…everyone from the lady at the front desk, the person who took her vital signs, the lady who registered us, the doctor, radiologist, and nurses were GREAT! Our sweet girl has a cortical fracture. We are so sad for her but so thankful she’s ok. We will go to the orthopedist on Monday for her cast. Please pray she heals quickly! 🙂 {and that brother of hers has been great! He was so sad for her and has been so encouraging!}IMG_7815IMG_7814IMG_7817IMG_7818IMG_7819IMG_7820IMG_7821

And as you know, I’m always playing catch up with my blogging, so here are a few more pictures of things that have happened in 2016…Charlie wrapped up basketball, IMG_6941IMG_6870fun playing with cousins (and we can’t wait to spend time with the Brazells this summer too!), IMG_6576FullSizeRenderCharlie went hunting for the first time with Papa, IMG_5943Grandparents breakfast at school, IMG_4641and we celebrated Big Papa’s 85th birthday!IMG_6960IMG_6961
