We wanted to go somewhere this summer, but wanted to be safe. We personally didn’t feel comfortable with renting a hotel or house from someone we didn’t know. Thankfully, my brother-in-law’s uncle has a house at Edisto that only family uses. We were able to rent it for 5 days and it was SO nice. Early in our marriage and early parenting years, someone gave us some great advice to vacation with your nuclear family. Now don’t get me wrong…we love traveling with extended family too, but this time is so sweet and we try to be intentional about it.
Day 1 we traveled, got settled in the house, relaxed, spent some time on the beach, fished, read, stocked up at the grocery store, and enjoyed the beautiful sunset!

The next morning, the boys headed to the marina while AC and I checked out this neat open air market.
Then off to the beach we went!

Later that afternoon we headed to Botany Bay! We did the self guided tour. It was so neat to read all the history!

That evening after supper, we headed back to the beach.

Day 3, AC and I took a long bike ride on the beach while the boys played golf.

Then after some rest time we headed back to the water!

That evening we took some chicken necks and tried crabbing for the first time. It was so much fun!

Day 4 was another beach day!

That evening we wanted to try crabbing again. We caught shrimp too!

We stayed up late that night to go looking for loggerhead turtles hatching.
The next morning was a walk on the beach, souvenir shopping, bike riding for the kids, and packing up!
We are so thankful for a short vacation with our little family!

The night before a baked a cake for Devin.
When we got home that evening from the lake, the kids set the table, made a menu, and helped cook dinner.

We had a wonderful day – just the four of us! Happy sweet sixteen!

This is seriously one of my most favorite desserts. Yum!
