Boston & Montreal - Day 2

First off, a couple of pictures from yesterday from Alison's phone.  I didn't find these until after I published the last post.

From Salem:

Alison was sad that we didn't go into the museum. I wasn't dying to pay the entry fees.

Now, onto Day 2 - May 20, 2016:

First stop today was the Aquarium.  As is usually the case, most of our photos are a bit fuzzy from being in the dark.

From the aquarium we walked to Quincy Market and Fanieul Hall.  We grabbed some lunch and continued our walk to the Boston Museum of Science (technically we took the T to the Science Park stop).  In the picture above we are standing at the Holocaust Monument.  This is one of my favorite monuments anywhere.  There are 6 glass towers, each with 1 million prisoner numbers on them representing the 6 million Jews that were killed in the Holocaust.

When we arrived, we had just missed the electricity and lightning show (which is one of the best science museum shows anywhere).  But, we were able to find all sorts of things to fill our time.

I was a little sleepy after the red-eye flight and long day of driving the day before.

Ada has the whole world in her hands.  I really wanted to see Eartha, but this globe will have to do.

After the Boston Museum of Science we made our way back across town to the Boston Children's Museum.  It was a free night at the Children's Museum, so we figured that even if we only stayed for a few minutes we would get our money's worth.

We started in the Children's Theater were they were putting on a show of the Three Little Pigs.  Ada volunteered to be one of the pigs.

We ended up staying a lot longer than we had planned.  That's probably the sign of a good Children's Museum.

We were staying at the Omni Parker House right downtown and there was a Cheeseboy Grilled Cheese restaurant right nearby that was a perfect place for dinner after a long day.

Boston & Montreal - Day 1

May 19, 2016

Now that Cancun has been adequately blogged, we move onto our next trip to Boston (New England) and Montreal.

JetBlue opened a new route from SLC to BOS and for their first month they offered some flights for $90 round trip, so we took the whole family to New England for around $450.

Kate saw the guy directing the airplane on the tarmac and said, "look daddy, there's a guy with light sabers out there!"

After our red-eye flight it was only 4AM Utah time, but Boston was sure looking lovely.

We grabbed our rental car and then made our way to Salem, Massachusetts (after a quick stop at Target to pick up some cheap car seats.  We forgot to grab ours when we left).  We had breakfast at The Little Depot.

It was a tiny train car breakfast joint that seemed to mainly be frequented by locals.

We parked in Salem and visited the museum and walked along the Salem trail.

After Salem we jumped in the car and drove through New Hampshire to Maine.  We stopped at the Nubble Lighthouse in York.

Then spent about an hour on Long Sands Beach just south of the lighthouse.

The girls loved the sand and water.  It was too cold to swim, but not too cold for wading.

Today was the day of lots of driving.  I'm a list checker kind of guy and we had to visit all of the New England states.  From Maine we drove south through New Hampshire, then through Massachusetts to Worcester, then south to Connecticut (new state) and onto the Ice Cream Machine shop in Rhode Island to celebrate a few new states.

It was a lot of driving for the night after a red-eye flight, but we got it done so that we could spend our time in the city for the next few days.

Tomorrow we take a look around Boston.

Cancun - Days 7 & 8

Our time in Cancun was quickly coming to an end and we were sad.

I took the girls down to breakfast and a storm came through while we were eating.

Who doesn't love all you can eat waffles?

Once it cleared up, we staked out our spots by the pool.

While we swam, Alison was taking advantage and sleeping in a bit.

They had a game for the kids, where two teams were trying to pop balloons in the pool.

Ada and I went for another walk along the beach.

Dinner was back in the main restaurant.

The next morning we had to catch a shuttle to the airport.  We opted to start our day with chocolate cake.

We had a great time in Cancun.  I had heard so much from people who had been to Cancun, and I was excited to finally get the chance to see what it was all about.  While I don't need to go there every year, I could see us making our way back in a few years or so.
