Prayer

We are a praying community. Well… we are learning the rigorous discipline of becoming a praying community. So, we’re trying, and it’s hard. We have lived our lives learning the discipline of prayer in our own life, and now we are learning to share the life of prayer with each other. We want song, midday prayers, meals, psalms and scripture to take root in our life together as we learn to share, work, love and forgive as a community committed to the way of Jesus. Please join us in prayer, and pray we would learn to be humble and gracious.

Amen.

A Prayer for Clarkston

Good God of peace,

We ask humbly,

For the courage to believe in ourselves and in our world,

For minds and hearts that do not bend under the weight of the call before us.

We ask that in your mercy you would teach us how to dream,

That together we would dream with our hands and with our feet,

Of a place where poverty and suffering do not lead our days and tire us and idle us.

Teach us to create spaces of earth where we all live united as one.

We long to be your peace, in a place where violence and hate speak too much and too loud.

Exhaust us with our own plans and take us to your resting place, where we come and leave with the secrets of life in you.

Make us a people who walk the streets of darkness in peace, who sing the songs of redemption in our concrete cages, people who use our hands to dig deep into the depths of despair,

People who have eyes to see Jesus as he weeps, and as he sleeps in our own neighborhood, ears to hear that You are already here, even among us now.

We ask you now to stab our hearts with words of truth,

That our hearts may be laid bare before you, a God who asks of us our very lives.

May we continue to seek until we find what we are seeking.

Have mercy on us and lead us to the place where life is born, which is in Jesus, the stranger and foreigner to which we follow to strange lands. May we follow him until he leads us home.

May you remember Clarkston as you remembered Israel. Come to us in the desert with word of your promises and lead us to your rich country.

We ask now, come bend down to us and labor by our side, teaching us first and only what it means to give our lives away.

Help us to live lives that please you and bind us to your wisdom.

Release us from fear and help us to find freedom, so that the world may be set free.

We now continue to hope, because you have given us all things.

To you, now, we give all things.

Thanks be to God for bringing us to this time.

Amen.
