The Boy Who Loves Goodbloons

Oliver's speech has taken an interesting turn. The "b" sound has always been a challenge. Usually a "b" at the begining of a word would get replaced with a "g". He would always ask to read his "gig gook", for example. These days he pronounces the "b" very well. But only when it comes to one-syllable words. More than one syllable and the "b" that was "g" is then "good-".

goodmanas= bananas
goodlow= below
goodsides= besides
goodneath= beneath
goodton= baton

...and on and on. It cracks me up!

(please ignore the terrible laugh)

My favorite though, is when he says "themschother". Infact, I may start using it.

Lost: Tooth

After a week of wiggling and wiggling, Isabelle's first tooth has finally come out. She's been so excited about her loosing her first tooth that she told everyone about it. Everyone. So I was surprised when she looked confused and then displeased once the tooth came out. She walked out of the room and into the bathroom where she examined her new smile in the mirror for a while. Then she came back to me for a hug and started to cry when she said, “But I like my smile with all my teeth.” For the girl that loves to smile, it was heartbreaking. Seriously, it made me want to cry for a moment.

The good news is, after a while we convinced her that all kids her age have a either a loose tooth or a missing tooth and that we found it completely adorable. So she’s smiling again and excited to compare lost teeth with all her school friends next week.

It's Party Time

Between kindergarten graduation and her 6th birthday, it was a pretty big party week for Isabelle. Of course, she's all about a party. I hadn't realized that she'd inherit the enthusiasm for hosting at such a young age. She often invites people to parties that she's supposedly throwing. She plans out a theme, games, decorations, invitations, etc. Then she extends a sweet invitation to everyone she comes in contact with. At this age, she doesn't see why on earth you couldn't just throw a grand party any old time. Ah, but I digress.

The kindergarten class put on a fashion show as part of the graduation program. The kids wore their favorite clothes, costume, uniform, etc. and walked on the “runway”. Issie chose to use most of the items in her dress up box to put together a fairy princess ensemble aka her evening attire.

And the birthday party… She struggled between rainbows and unicorns for a while but we eventually came up with a candy party theme (which was good because I wasn’t quite sure how the others would go over with the boys- do boys like unicorns?).

After seeing these on the HWTM blog, I made these lollipop invites.

Isabelle threw on a little pre-party show while we waited for all the guests to arrive.

We made candy necklaces and played a little candy toss game. Originally I was going to use mini m&m bags as bean bags but no one is selling that size right now. So mini snickers it was.

Her cake was a skittles rainbow (two birds with one stone, ya know?). I found this cute number 6 sparkler that we put in the cake. I thought she’d be so excited but really she was more surprised…and disturbed…and confused as to why I was lighting her cake on fire!

I love this girl! She's quirky and funny and sweet, truly sweet.

Etsy Love

I don't often purhase stamps but when I saw these on Etsy I just could not pass them up.

I just received my teeny tiny telephone stamp just in time to make "hello" cards for card group.

Image

I can't think of a single reason to buy this stamp and yet, I really, really want it.

Image

Maybe it's because they're so small (less than an inch diamter) that makes them hard to resist.

Meanwhile...

First of all, since I haven't updated since the race, I have to say that it was awesome! Favorite moment- getting flat out smoked by a 70+ year old breast cancer survivor. No lie. It was quite an honor.

Oh, and when I came home I found this in my master bathroom:

***angles singing hallelujah***

We've been a one toilet family for... let me check...almost a year! With four people, two of them with the ability to time their bladders to signal emergency only when the bathroom is occupied by someone else, it was getting problematic. The builders who built our house didn't make replacement easy. RJ, you've made me very, very happy!

I finally, fiiiiiiinally, found a bed for Oliver. No longer does he sleep on a pile of comforters on the floor. He actually liked the floor but it certainly wasn't making me feel like 'mother of the year.' I'm really happy with it and it was a great price. I got it at Cuddle Haven, which is a new fav. Now, I've got to find (or make) a cute bedspread.

Our yard has gotten a lot of our extra time (if there is such a thing). Last year, our yard was SO sad looking. Grubs killed a good portion of our grass and we lost a major war with weeds. This year is a huge improvement. I don't have to wait until no one is around to I pull into our garage. {{Before and after pics will be posted in a month or so when we have some plants in.}}

More to come, lots and lots on my to do list today.
